Jenny Slate did them a favor. This episode was such a snoozer, the only reason I’m still watching it is to see what the West Coast does with her misstep. Seriously SNL writers, this is what you’ve been scribbling on cocktail napkins all summer? Oh, biker chat is on… Did they just dub “frikken” over it? It was seamless. Damn. Still a snoozer of an episode.
That puffing of the cheeks was such an admission of guilt that sge didn’t even know it was gonna happen.
I hope they let her off easily.
1. She was funny, and she kept it together after that.
2. She was probably freaking nervous! Give her a break!
3. If someone is staying up until 1:00 to watch a show where most of the jokes are sexual, they probably have already heard the word.

i live in seattle, wa, (we’re three hours earlier) and my local affiliate did NOT edit the f-bomb. i might have missed it if i hadn’t read this page first. Best part of the show for me: the opening commercial where will forte and fred armisen share the urinal and look at the camera with huge grins on their faces. Those guys are great.
Ha. I’m two hours earlier then NY and they didn’t edit here either. I thought it was funny she did that and surprised no one slipped before then. Your replacing ‘Frickin’ for the F word… It was bound to happen.

Does anyone else think that the music during the FIRST song U2 played (“Breathe”, I think) was canned? I am sure certain they were really singing, but it seemed like the music was canned and the guys weren’t pantomiming very well… very strange vibe. Enough to make us sit up and say, “What the HELL???”
You know I noticed something odd about that first song too. Bono seemed very strained in that song like he was covering over something. I thought it was the mic but since you said that I wonder if it was canned and he was singing over his own voice. He didn’t look too comfortable either.
Totally agree with you both. I love U2 but that performance was just off. I also thought they they were lip-synching.
Guitar bass & drums are live. Larry Mullen is probably playing to a track that has some pre-recorded bits (synths and stuff) on it to approximate the recording. It ain’t 100% fake like a Britney show, anyway.
Sure- I understand some “under” tracks might be laid down to fill in the sound, but from one of the tightest musical groups EVER, that performance was completely off. I could see the guys in the back room just off stage scrambling around a bit during and just after the song… it seemed like something was off.
After watching it again, I am sure they weren’t playing their instruments during that first song, at the very least. WHY? They don’t need to do that! Is this what we have to expect from SNL this season? Anemic musical performances, substance-less guest hosts, and crappy skits that don’t make me laugh anymore? Radner, Belushi, Farley and Hartman are rolling over in their graves… thank god there’s 30 Rock, at least. Guess we have SOMETHING to be thankful for, Lorne Michaels.
P.S. Do you suppose that little side-show at the end by Bono with the swinging microphone and the smoke and “lasers” was to distract all of us and make us think they might actually be giving us a performance worthy of watching?

Yeah. I’m in the camp of “OMG. She said the word FUCK????!!! The entire world must’ve ENDED!” Get the fuck over it people. People are dying all over the world. Basic human rights and freedoms are being ignored by countries (including our own “great” land, America) and someone says “Fuckin” on TV and we go crazy??? Take a pill and go the fuck to bed and please don’t wake up until the next millenium where we will treat you like the fucking fossil you are.
Does this mean we get Michaela Watkins back?

Is this really news? I don’t get it. I think its sad that a random f-bomb at almost 1am is so taboo. Here’s hoping the new FCC folks aren’t so radical! I think they’ll be fined 500,000 or so for it right?

If the girl was at least funny I wouldn’t care about the F-bomb thing…but come on. The skit was soooo very lame…and dull…and I just want Michaela Watkins back.

The problem isn’t whether Lorne Michaels will let it slide or not, it’s mainly whether they’ll receive a slap in the wrist from the FCC, which can hand the show/network a hefty fine. I agree that it’s an overeaction, but if the FCC steps up here, her role in the cast will be reviewed.

The show was an F-Bomb…. Terrible. I only laffed during the update… Someone please get some talent on this show.

She may have been there only a half year, but she made a great impression with her talent. It’s not brainwashing, and has nothing to do with Ausiello. It has to do with seeing Lorne Michaels cast off a great performer.
