First, let me say I admire Hugh Laurie immensely. From House on back to Blackadder, the guy is first-rate, smart, and funny. Read the full post.

Please explain to me who the black woman was since it appears that little story line is still lost in space.
I ended up not caring about that or pretty much anything else that went on in the show.
We agree.
Hated it. I don’t watch the show to see House doing sensitive soul-searching. I watch it to see him being an arrogant, tortured genius who solves medical mysteries and challenges everyone around him. The show has worked for so long because it focuses not on House as a subject but on House as a catalyst.
In this episode he was arrogant. Hints of solving medical myesteries (him guessing others ailments to take advantage of them). And he spent most of the episode challenging, including trying to use (as he always did) Wilson to help (which failed). I did, however, expect House to diagnose and save the Dr’s dad. But in a way glad he didn’t.
Since the other inmates were pretty cliched, it was easy to diagnose them.
That is the reason I have begun to lose interest in the show. The plot line was too pattern. I hope they continue to show House try to recover throughout the season and not just go back to the tired old formula.
What a terrific episode. I was completely enthralled the entire two hours. Over the seasons, the viewers have come to expect and enjoy House’s self destructive behavior and his treatment of others. It’s become “normal” for him. But this episode reminded viewers that’s it’s not normal and showed just how much help House needed. His transformation during the show was great and I’m looking forward to a brighter House in the upcoming season…..and can’t wait for his love affair to visit him at the hospital (as we all know this will happen)…and his roommate will visit him too!
Gotta disagree with you on this one. I was moved…found myself bawling the last half-hour or so. Wonderful episode!
This was great TV. I actually cried when the patient who hadn’t spoken in years was playing the cello. My rule is, if it makes me cry, it’s excellent.
I usually find Andre Braugher to be too much of an actor for most of his roles, but he played this shrink with just the right touch.
Your rule is hilarious. You must be a bawling mess over 2 1/2 Men:)
I agree. I almost got choked up by the end. Unlike this past summer’s Hawthorne, this episode was heartfelt and a tearjerker without drowning viewers in syrupy sentimentalism. I would’ve left out the college ad on the bus, though. No need to spoonfeed the audience on something we figured out before House left the ward.
Glass houses – we’re not supposed to know who the black woman was. It was to show House’s backward way of thinking – he tried to take an innocent meeting and blackmail the doctor.
You are nuts(meant in the nicest possible way)! He didn’t try to blackmail him. He was just trying to find out who she was (maybe to blackmail him). Sorry, but you are wrong. If you are right, then he would have found out it was just an innocent meeting. It was a mistake by the writers.
But the woman wasn’t important. The fact that House get’s obsessed with other peoples lives is a symptom of his own illness. That was the point.
That’s your point. I contend it was a loose end that ended up on the cutting room floor. If we see more of the doc we may see more of her too. He was not obsessed with the docs life. He was looking for a weapon.
I thought last night’s episode was great!!! It may have dragged a little in the middle, but overall it was perfect. And I enjoyed the talent show. I think the end was perfect when he rode away on the bus, because you don’t really know. Did he really change? Or was he just giving the doctors what they wanted so he could get back to his life and stay the same old House? I don’t think it matters either way for me.
I thought the episode was excellent. Duly noted that it wasn’t feel like the usual House episode but it was reflective and thoughtful and beautifully done
I thought it was awesome. House didn’t get away with the usual. (We were asking ourselves if it was like the other rehab episode until the credits rolled. We were waiting for him to yell “Psyche”) I loved Andre Braugher and wish he would stay. I would like to see House have a friend that likes him and sees his angles as opposed to Wilson who is trying to keep up. I would also like to see Wilson fight for House’s attention.
I loved this episode… There was nothing off base about this – it was 2 hours of great TV. Let me just say, if this isn’t how you would’ve pictured house in a mental institution, then you have apparently NOT been watching house! I can’t wait to see what is in store for House for the entire season!
I thought that the plot involving the Silent Girl was contrived and disinteresting. I was hoping for a better episode.
Yeah- it was too Lifetime Movie-ish for me. The whole purpose of her condition was so House could cure someone at the end of the show, although curing her caused him to lose the woman he was falling in love with.
But, he didn’t cure her. The super hero did.
House “cured” her. Super hero was the tool.
It was a team effort between House and Freedom Master, although I have no idea how FM knew that Silent Woman wanted the music box.
O.K. I must really be crazy. My earlier post disappeared. Here I go again. Really?! They would take a mental patient to a party and let a person on meds drink alcohol. Really?! The doctor would summon House to his dad’s death bed and then be upset at Houses behavior. Really?! Who is the crazy here? Really?! The german lady can come and go as she pleases in a mental institution? Really?! Yet all visitors were behind a locked door until visiting hours. Really?! They wouldn’t let them have ping pong paddles, lock the piano yet leave a cello with that long metal weapon on the bottom just lying around. Really?! They confiscate all your $ yet House can afford the carnval?! Really?! All the crazies were in the same group and ward regardless of their level of functioning. Really? Well gotta go. They are coming for me now. Really!
Really! And all they were missing was the eating disorder/cutter.
Nope, they had the eating disorder (the manorexic).
Correct. Well the cutter was still missing:0
there was a cutter too. pay attention.
Good stuff Crazy Seth. Potentes comings and goings had me a little crazy too!
House works in a hospital where the doctors personally run every test from drawing blood and running MRI machines, Really? The administrator of the hospital wears revealing tight clothing, Really?! A doctor who used to specialize in critical care suddenly becomes a surgeon and does every kind of surgery from transplants to brain surgery, Really?! A former immunologist becomes the head of the ER, Really?! A doctor has 4 interns/fellows working for him yet only takes one case at a time, Really?! I suspended my disbelief a long time ago with this show. Just go with it.
Why not just play with yourself and pretend it’s Megan Fox. Oh wait, you do!
8) agree with all you have to say Seth. My posts disappear often too LOL 8)
I thought it was a very good episode. I liked the talent show. It was good to seen House is able to be nice to someone other than Cuddy or Wilson. I love the way his character has evolved over the years.
Thought this was a dynamite 2 hours…got to see more sides of the star Hugh Laurie!!!He is truly a brillant actor…story line was super! More, more!!!!
I did love Alvie. Love love loved Alvie!!!!!!
Me too! I would watch a show about him.
