Matthew’s Weiner’s comment didn’t bother me. I just thought he was saying that the election was important to him as his personal victory tonight.
Worst: Jon Cryer winning. I was literally rooting for EVERY OTHER PERSON in that category.
Yeah, why did he win? I wish somebody here at EW would give us some inside scoop on what the politics might be behind that, because *clearly* he was not the most deserving
Totally agree. I’ve never watched the show he’s on, but just from commercial previews you can tell it’s a far inferior show to all other sitcoms nominated.
Best: Ricky Gervias & Neil Patrick Harris! [loved how Jon Stewart acknowledged NPH's performance while accepting his award!] Speaking of Jon, how can it be an Emmy awards show without allowing Stewart and Colbert to dish out an award?! Love those two together- always funny!
so true! they’ve always been great when they present….especially when a few years ago someone couldn’t accept their emmy so they chose to give it to steve carell instead haha
That was Ricky Gervais’s award, hence the running joke with Gervais, Colbert, Carell and Stewart on the Emmys since.
The clip from Family Guy with the bloody dog was really offensive. That and the bleeped-out swearing on the reality montage, so unnecessary. NPH was brilliant and classy, as was Jon Stewart for his compliments. I was sorry Jim Parsons didn’t win, but let’s hope for next year.
stay in the library, Karen.
The Family Guy clip was stupid, whether or not you thought it was offensive. That show stopped being clever YEARS ago.
Didn’t think it was offensive, just stupid. I really feel like Family Guy is off the rails. I used to find it funny, now it’s like being beaten over the head (just like what happened to Brian, oddly enough…)
The Family Guy clip was stupid, not funny, and went on way too long.
I am from Rhode Island (where FG is set) and I LOVE the show, but this bit was NOT the best they could or should have done. Kudos for its Nomination and I am in LOVE with NPH’s boyfriend David.
I hate Family guy but I have to admit when Stewie said “Suit up,” (Like Barney on HIMYM) I laughed and laughed.
If that clip had been remotely amusing I don’t think I would call it offensive – but because it was absolutely, utterly witless with no humor whatsoever, all we were left with was gross gratuitous brutality and in fact, it did become offensive after it went on for what seemed like an hour.
I totally agree, if it had been funny it would’ve been fine. As it was, all I could see was someone abusing a dog for what seemed like forever. Not cool.
“Buffering” FTMFW!!
Best moment was Kristin Chenoweth’s win. She looked genuinely shocked that she won, and did she ever deserve it. She’s a terrific actress and was outstanding on Pushing Daisies, another fantastic series canceled too soon.
Agreed. She is truly outstanding.
Loved her acceptance speech too. I’d like to be on Mad Men, or 30 rock”.
I was touched that Ken Howard thanked his kidney donor. A later winner for writer or directing (a woman who didn’t speak) also gave a thanks to her kidney donor (unless she was kidding, which I doubt). As one on a kidney list, any small promotion of organ donation is appreciated. And again, Ken Tucker was lauding it as a nice moment.
BEST
1. NPH. never really got his popularity until now. i’m a late bloomer…
2. kristin chenoweth win. RIP pushing daisies
3. michael emerson win. well deserved
WORST
1. chandra wilson/sandra oh snub
2. LOST drama snub
NPH was a great host. Boo to the Emmys for not giving Jim Parsons an Emmy for The Big Bang Theory! He is WAY funnier than Alec Baldwin. And…what does Hugh Laurie have to do to win a f’ing Emmy?
Did anyone else see what looked like an anger moment off stage between NPH and two other people, or was I imagining it???
Staged.
There was also a staged moment where they were trying to get NPH on mark, but he was enjoying a drink instead.
Regarding “Taking Chance” and “Generation Kill” — I guess Emmy voters don’t like to think about the Iraq war. Give it twenty, thirty years.
My least favorite were the same as your first two favorites.
I took the election comment to mean “what an amazing year for US.” I think the election was big to them and winning an Emmy was also big. I know if I won an Emmy I would care about it more than the election to be honest.
Best: Anything NPH. I love that man.
Worst: Hugh Laurie still hasn’t won. I’m really peeved with the panel right now. We didn’t even get a nice sweep of the House cast!
Beyond worst: Hugh Laurie getting screwed over YET AGAIN by the EMMYS for Cranston again. I guess he is the new Spader!
Except that Cranston makes a heck of a lot more sense than Spader (or Tony Shalhoub for that matter). I do think Hugh Laurie has gotten robbed in the past and would have been equally as glad if he had won as I was that Bryan Cranston had.
Maybe I missed it, but who made the offensive comment about the kidney donation?
My faves were NPH, Ricky Gervais, John Hodgman, and awards by genre.
Not so faves were the reality show dancers, Jeff Probst’s cleavage, Jon Cryer saying Charlie Sheen deserved an Emmy when I didn’t expect to see Duckie win an Emmy. Was Sarah McClachlan actually singing such an overdone song really necessary?
No one did. Tucker said he thought it was a nice moment, and all the illiterates started flipping their wigs.
