The Emmys: Who will and should win Best Actor in a Comedy?

Jim-Parsons-Alec-Baldwin_l

Continuing my week-long invitation to you to pick the Emmy winners with me, today I ask: Who will win best actor in a comedy? Who will win, and who should win?

The nominees are: Alec Baldwin, Steve Carrell, Jemaine Clement, Jim Parsons, Tony Shalhoub, and Charlie Sheen.

Alec Baldwin won last year, and Emmy voters certainly don’t mind giving awards to the same actor two years in a row (just ask Tony Shalhoub). So Baldwin is definitely a contender. And a great performer.

But my combo will win/should win pick is Parsons. He’s becoming an amazing comic actor in The Big Bang Theory, able to recite reams of recondite dialogue with witty ease. He’s won over many a talk-show audience this past year with his charming banter. The kid’s a natural.

Who do you think will and should win in this category?

I pray in the name of everything holy that you are right! Jim Parsons FTW!

    • Javabooknut

I say Zachari Levi should win for Chuck…oh yeah he wasn’t nominated. And one of the best shows on tv almost got canceled and now we have to wait till march. Silly!

    • Pete

“Sheldon Cooper FTW!” “Sheldor is AFK.” Please let Jim Parsons win the Emmy. He’s the only person I really want to see win, his reaction will be hilarious!

  • Kristi

I would love to see Jim Parsons win, I think his character and now his friendship with Penny on the show really make the show.

But I fear Alec Baldwin will nab it again, Emmy voters sure love them some 30-rock

      fear??????

  • S.K.

Jim Parsons! But, I too fear that Baldwin will win it again.

  • stacy

    Jemaine Clement! What about Bret?

  • Darcie

There’s no denying the talent of Alec Baldwin, and the relentless nominations of Shaloub and Sheen are vexing indeed, but I pray that the Emmy’s go for the quirky/edgy pick and give the statue to Jemaine. He’s by far the funniest man in this list. But, I won’t hold my breath…

Jim Parsons is truly one of our finest comedic actors. He should absolutely win. All the nominees are great, but it’s time for Parsons to win.

  • Dave

I would love to see Alec Baldwin or Jim Parsons win, but I’d be overjoyed to see anyone but Tony Shalhoub win, to be absolutely frank. Every year when the Emmy awards come out, I’m again surprised to see that ‘Monk’ is still on the air.

    • Trish

Monk is one of the best shows on television. At least some networks are still playing quality TV shows.

      • Allie

        usa has great shows!!

      • marc

it WAS one of the best shows. It hasn’t been in a few seasons. thank whoever they are finally canceling it

  • claudenorth

Jim Parsons definitely deserves the Emmy.

  • Maserda

Alec, Tony, and Steve have all won Emmys in the past. Let someone else win it this year! That’s who I want to win.

    • Ally

Steve has won a Golden Globe, but has never won an Emmy. And in my opinion, he is way overdue.

    • goo

I’ve never won either, you dolt.

  • Sharon

I still love Alec Balwin and think he is the best

  • Andrew P

no matter how funny Alec is, Parsons has earned it.

  • Sharon

Jim Parson is a very close second to Alec Baldwin. He has been great.

  • Karen

DEFINITELY Tony Shalhoub. He’s won a lot in the past, but he still deserves it now because he blows these other actors out of the water. He’s a PHENOMENAL actor.

  • Kimberly

It has to be Jim Parsons. He is the best right now!!!!

  • UncleWalty

whichever guy the Emmy voters think will make them look the smartest is who will win. So it’ll either be Baldwin again or that Clement guy. “Most deserving” doesn’t usually come into play re: the Emmys
