Where the heck was Eric? One of the best parts of this forsaken season and we get 2 minutes. Even though I am an Eric fan, give Bill back some character please. He is so nauseating and boring.

    • Sarah

I started to get annoyed with Bill but he redeemed himself in the last half hour. I loved watching him get nervous over the engagement. But his hair was so bad this season- too square. I liked his wild hair in the first season.

      • Sueski

Maybe this is another Bill vs. Eric scenario — Bill’s hair is much worse thru most of season 2, yet Eric’s is better!!

      • Kristin

Yes, Bill looked much better in the first season, they made him wear this ugly makeup in season 2. Also, Stephen Moyer is very good looking in real life.

    • Megan

I hate what he has done to bill’s character. Where is the Vampire!!! I haven’t seen much of Bill’s Vamp side since he killed sookie’s uncle last season. The show has turned bill into a romantic pussy. I just hope that next season they don’t let him off easy for his indiscretions against sookie. Hopefully they don’t make Eric the bad guy in the next season.

  • John

For the love of God, PLEASE STOP SPOILING THE THIRD BOOK. Some people WANT to be surprised about Bill’s kidnapping. And we all know it was Lafayette’s body in the car at the end of the first book, and look how that turned out on the show. So you’re either ruining the plot for people, or passing around what could be false information.
The show is not the books, it’s the show. They’re separate!
P.S. Great finale, Ball & Co.

    • Emmalily89

i thought the first half hour was great, but then i got bored very quickly. I can’t belive how they let the ball drop at the end. I hope they listen to the majority of the comments going around and give the veiwers what they want. More Eric!

    • Amelia

Alan Ball has already outlined the 3rd season in interviews. To say Bill was kidnapped is saying less than what Alan has said. Chill.

      • Duh

“To say Bill was kidnapped is saying less than what Alan has said. ”
I think it’s obvious that John knows that Bill was kidnapped. His point is that people are already trying to spoil WHO kidnapped him.

    • Anya

I totally agree. UGGH!! I read this and the comments because I love the series and thought it was awesome how they killed MaryAnne. TO EVERYONE WHO’S READ THE BOOKS: Please blog about what happens next on some other site. I really don’t want to read spoilers. Even if AB changes things, I want to be surprised.

  • Leslie

The kidnapper of Bill had gloves. They never let the silver tough their skin. It’s a vampire… probably Lorena. Eric isn’t that desperate. Besides, he’s already got Sookie. His blood is in her so… why go to all that trouble to kidnap Bill? Lorena is stupid and desperate enough to do that. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

    • Timeforyou

Because the Queen will wear his fangs like earrings if he doesn’t keep Bill in line. Bill’s kidnapping has nothing directly to do with Sookie (I think). I find it interesting that the Queen would get that upset about Bill knowing about her ordering the selling of V. Does Bill have some power we haven’t seen yet?

      • Kate

He doesn’t know that she ordered it, though. Just that Eric is doing it..

      • Timeforyou

You are correct. I meant more that he’s aware that Eric is selling V. Bill’s threat is to tell the Queen. Yet she was obviously extremely unnerved that he had this informationg. Why? Who else could he go to with this information that would compel her to order Eric to “keep him in line.”

    • ellemoe

*Spoiler* Weres also cannot touch silver. It could possibly have been a werewolf hired by Lorena or Eric to kidnap Bill. I don’t think Eric had anything to do with it though because if Sookie found out she would not forgive him for it. But, on the other hand, he could have set it up so that she would come to him for help. Don’t know and we’ll have to wait to see.

  • Ericsgirl

Loved Sam and Bill working to kill Mary Ann. I know i’m in the minority, but I LOVE the Queen. It was also fun to see her push Eric around a bit. Glad Eggs is gone. Never enough Eric, I wonder how the actors growing popularity will affect how muc screen time he gets next season.
Finally, why do people who have read the books feel the need to share possible plotlines on boards about the show? Are you that hard up for attention?

  • Miles Archer

Like most of Ball’s work, we get feeble concepts papered over with very very good, and sometimes great, execution. Which means it’s entertaining at the least. But there’s always something annoying about it at the same time. The Maryann subplot sorta capsized the season — check out the io9 recaps for a more critical, and frequently hilarious, take on it — and Ball actually managed to make orgies boring over time. And if i had a dollar for every time a character made a stupid decision that seemed out of character?

Anyway. Here’s hoping we get more of the Eric/Bill/Sookie triangle next year. And fewer attempts by Ball to burnish his bona fides when it comes to sexuality — an area where he gets far more credit than deserved.

  • Godricgirl4eva

I haven’t read any of the books, but I don’t mind the spoilers. Keeps me interested and wondering how AB is going to lay it out in the series. I agree with those who say to keep the books and show separate. They can’t be the same. It would be BORING!!!!!!!!! The ep did drag in some areas, but at least AB tied up the MaryAnn plot. Now we can wait for season 3. I like werewolves so I’m looking forward to that. I wonder who Sam’s REAL parents are.

    • Javabooknut

Thanks. An intelligent person for a change. I love that they’re different though it does twang a bit when he takes away something i really love (Eric in neon spandex from head to toe “pretending” to be Sookie’s lover) or adds something so awful (Maryann and Tara) But I love Jessica, Hoyt, Lafayetter (initially so upset when he didn’t die but now he’s my fave) Fleshing out same (in both ways;) etc.

  • Taylor

I loved the finale! The beginning wasn’t as good, being that I wasn’t really interested in the whole Ma situation. Poor jessica, everything has just sucked in her life since being a vamp. LOVED bills proposal, I thought it was really cute, even thouh I’m a super eric fan. Thank god he didn’t keep eggs around.

  • Bridget

I guess I’m in the minority but I thought the finale was VERY disappointing! Thank god the Maryanne arc is over–she dragged on way too long and it was boring the last few episodes. I too am a fan of the books, but I still appreciate the series apart from the Harris tomes. However, the TV storyline would MUCH more exciting and fun if AB did follow the book just a wee bit more. Sookie getting involved with Alcide, Quinn and Eric introduce so many hillarious hijinks and suspenseful moments. The writers of TB don’t have to faithfully follow the books–just borrow more of the framework from the book. The TV series could still stand on it’s own merit and yet have to rely on ridulculous storylines such as the Maeanad arc. Sookie is an exciting, erotic, sensual, adventurous herione and she deserves more experiences than settling down and marrying the first vampire to come her way. Come on Alan Ball—make season 3 much more exciting and funny than season 2!!!

    • Angelique

Bridget I agree with you. I was disappointed. I expected so much more than I got. This didn’t feel like a season finale episode to me. Don’t get me wrong I’m very glad they tied up the Maryann story, even thou I’ll miss Michelle Forbes. I think this is the first episode I felt like turning the channel and watching something else.

There were some moments that made me laugh:
Jason talking to Andy: I love the smell of nail polish in the morning.
Lafayette while placing the Bull head on the meat statue: Worship him bitches!
The women at Merlotte’s talking about Sam: God bless who made those jeans. I’m serious I’d wear him like a scrunchie.

    • Javabooknut

That’s more like he did last season. He kept the framework but colored outside the lines. He jumped the shark a bit with the whole expansion of the maenad thing which was only a tool in the books. I did love the change to the dallas stuff for the most part though.

    • ellemoe

I too didn’t think the finale was that great. It seemed like another filler episode to me. I loved the first season because it did follow the book closer even with the changes. I was still surprised by things in the show and thought this season would have followed the same format. The deviations were just a little too much for me, but I still watched it so I can’t really complain. Hopefully next season won’t disappoint. I’m truly not liking Sophie-Ann. I thought she was even worse this time around and felt bad watching the scene. I just kept my eyes on Eric the whole two minutes he was on screen.

  • Swerds

    BOOK READERS:

If you’re going to mention plot points from further along in the story line, can you please, PLEASE reference it in some way for those of us who have not read the books yet? It would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    • lafemmetopaz

In regards to book readers and spoilers, who cares. AB is not following the books. He is loosely using plots/storylines from teh book. He is only using characters from the books and slighty character nuances, that’s all.

So peeps don’t too caught up on if book readers who haven’t let book plotlines go talk about like they know what is going to happen. Cuz we don’t.

To Briget, I hear some of what you’re saying. But the books are a journey of a young woman’s self discovery and a sexual awakening and the show is a love story between Bill and Sookie.

      • Javabooknut

Ew. If you’re right that It’s a love story about Bill and Sookie than I’m gone. I certainly don’t think that’s AB’s intension and would be BORING. Yech.

      • Lora

The comment about the series being loosely based on the books is really not accurate. The only differences is the 2nd tier characters are getting more screen time than in the books and Bill is getting the lines and actions of Eric in regards to Sookie. The Dallas and meanad story lines are in book 2 and the TV series stuck to those two plot points with tweaks along the way. The reason why a lot of you love Bill and hate Eric from the TV series is because TB Bill is getting the Eric actions towards Sookie from the books. Book Bill is really non-existent at this point in the book series.

      • Pam’s Girl

@Javabooknut – Once again I find myself in complete agreement with you.

@Lora – Great points and good insight. I can freely and willingly admit that I am an Eric Lover (and yes that is supposed to be a capital L) and that I am quite biased toward his character from the books and that’s why it makes me soo mad/upset/digusted when there are episodes like this finale. For example…BOOK SPOILER-when Sookie received that package at Merlotte’s my first impulse was to think that it was from Eric because in the books he was always the one sending her gifts and packages and she never got squat from Bill. Imagine my disappointment when I saw the signature. *sigh*

      • Javabooknut

@pam’s girl! Bingo!!! That was Eric’s signature move. He’d ruin something of hers and then send her an amped up version of it. It showed despite what he might say how he cared. He was aware of her financial troubles but also about her pride so he never threw things at her. Whereas when bill did get around to helping her it was always as charity which she hated.

  • A.W

I was really disappointed by this episode. After MaryAnn was disposed of the rest of the episode dragged. I expected more from the season finale of True Blood. However, I am SO HAPPY Sam is alive.

  • SAS

After all the hype, promos, teasers, spoilers, interviews etc.,I guess I was expecting too much. I feel indifferent to the whole curiously flat thing.
When the highlights are two alien-gossiping broads and 3 minutes of Eric on the floor I have to wonder. Oh I realize there have to be realizations and season 3 set-ups,but that last 30 min. was deadly. Last year, a romantic dancing dinner with Bill would have been great, but this just seemed wrong. I kept waiting for Eric to show up tableside, or climb in the ladies room window and bring something to the scenes. This is the frst episode in the entire season I did not immediately restart and watch again. I feel really empty.

    • Jess1127

SAS – I had the same feelings regarding Sookie in the powder room. I kept expecting to see Eric show up behind her in the mirror – for a naughty bite!!!

      • Pollyrocks

Me too! I was SO disappointed!

      • vikingaddict

i kept waiting for eric to show up in the bathroom too (even if only in her imagination) I cannot believe we only got a few minutes of eric in the season finale and had to endure the hole maryann story line (I did enjoy sam though)

    • Pam’s Girl

@SAS – OMG! That’s exactly how I felt. I kept expecting/hoping that while Sookie was in the ladies room, she’d see Eric float by the window or something. I feel so disappointed that the Finale was one of my least favorite episodes of the entire season.

    • Anya

I was sure the reason why Sookie was hesitating to say yes to Bill was because of her feelings about Eric. I was disappointed that she didn’t “hear” him or have some sort of sexy daydream while in the bathroom.

  • Josh

Good finale, not great but good. I think they definitely killed Maryann way too early in the episode, I looked at the clock and only about 20 minutes had gone by in the episode. I was sad to see Eggs go, especially the way he did, I was hoping to see more of him. I love the idea of Sam searching for his birth parents next season. The Bill kidnapping was interesting although there are only 2 real suspects and 1 reach. Eric or Lorena, and then Newlin is a long shot. Although the person was wearing gloves so it is even more likely that it was a vampire. Can’t wait for next season.

  • EllenClaudine

For those of you who have not read the books, READ THEM. Their plot flow and characterization never come off as cheesy and, I’m sorry, but sometimes the show does. I guess the book spoilers just want to see what they’ve imagined while reading. There are so many more subplots and variables that can be put onto the show. And Alan Ball can stick in little twists to keep the readers interested as well.

    • Hannah

Some people may not want to read the books, and that’s their choice. Just because they choose to follow the TV show but not the books doesn’t excuse people from coming onto an article about the **TV show** and spoiling what may or may not be major plot points for next season.
I’ve only read the first book, and frankly I thought what Ball did topped it. I haven’t felt the need or desire to read the others, and I’m happy with that. Ball has NEVER made the claim or promise to be 100% faithful to the books, so it baffles me when some people expect him to.

      • Javabooknut

I don’t want him to be 100% faithful and i think many readers agree. But I do think we should be able to discuss difference. I do think that if we are going to reveal something big we should put a spoiler alert like Ken Does. That would be fair for both parties.

      • Kate

Javabooknut, if you guys want to discuss the differences between the second book and the second season, that’s fine, because both are already released in their entirety. What I see people complaining about is others spoiling the third book’s plot lines, and in turn likely spoiling the third season’s plot lines. To say it’s your right “to discuss the differences” only makes sense in the context of the first two books and first two seasons. That defense doesn’t work for the third book and third season because you don’t really know yet how different they are.

      • Pam’s Girl

Kate- I think people have the right to discuss what will happen in Season 3 and just because some of what the book readers think may happen MAY be correct, should not prohibit them from discussion. However, I do respect that many don’t want to know anything that may happen and I really try to use SPOILER or something when discussing the books as SWERDS and a few other have graciously asked. I do understand the frustration, but I think discussion of all the books is just inevitable and hopefully we can all remember to place SPOILER in front of any possible information that may spoil the show for non-readers. Though I think any time you access the internet, you risk finding spoilers of things. Like if I can’t watch TB on Sunday nights (and often I can’t b/c of work) I won’t even turn a computer on until I’ve watched the episode on DVR.

  • Josh

Also everyone needs to stop complaining about there not being enough Eric. I’m definitely an Eric fan, but as of right now he is a supporting character. He can’t be in every scene so calm down. I’m sure his role will continue to grow so just be patient.

    • EricLover

Tara is hardly in the books at all and she’s a main character. Can’t use that excuse. So yes, Eric needs more face time~write it in!

      • Javabooknut

Can I petition to kill her off and bring in another character to fulfill her part in future books. Hated her since the beginning and still hate her.

      • chichi

Yes more Eric. I thin book readers are patiently waiting for Eric to take on his role…
Tara is super annoying in the show. I would nor be disapointed to see her go.

  • Chappel s

That ending sure sounds more interesting than the one in the books where the Maenad simply vibrates everyone in the “orgy house” to death and wanders away to annoy someone else.
