p.s. why is it always the overweight, pasty men doing the full frontals on this show?? um, Egg, Bill, Eric, Jason, Sam?? Anyone else…. PLEASE!!??
Agreed. Hell anyone can be an extra on that show apparently.
I agree its disquisting! It like the locker rooms @ the gym old fat nasty guys always parading around nude! Other than that loved the eposode! Eric is awesome and he can fly he’s leagues above Bill in power looks and everything else! I like Bill but he’s such a lying pansy as we all will find out eventually! Loved all the women in this ep but of course never enough of Eric! I just love the way he taughts Bills sneaky a$$! I’m so depressed having to wait 2 wks!
don’t look for AB to go the same direction as the books….with that Bill/Queen Sookie story anyways.
RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! Older men with a little meat on their bones are just delicious. Oh, and some of us like paleness.
Lisa – let me guess…England?
I agree that we need the pretty boys in all their full frontal glory, but I kind of like the way Alan Ball is portraying the people of Louisiana as… well, REAL. They look the way most people look – overweight, pasty and old. I kind of enjoy that – it makes the whole concept seem more plausible.
Hahaha “The way most people” look. Where do you live?? Sorry for you.
Cynical Rancid karma has obviously never been to the south or seen people from the South. rebekah makes a good point. Those people do look very much like average Southerners.
Yeah. We;’re talking about people who DEEP FRY turkeys for Thanksgiving. What do you think they are gonna look like?
The pale thing is lame though. Hardly anyone in the south stays that pale without major effort.
The most popular clothing size for women in America is 14 and for men it is a size 40 waist. So the portrayal is accurate. Only on regular TV is everyone thin, beautiful, expensively dressed and driving top of the line cars while working for minimum wage.
OMG! I so agree. There are skinny naked women in plenty. The one full monty we get is as you described. I feel cheated. Is there some rule that women aren’t allowed to enjoy having sexy nude men on TV?
You guys need to check out AS’s naked shower scene from some Swedish movie on YouTube. You don’t see his actual penis, I don’t think, but you see enough to know that he is completely shaved. And lickable.
I hate to say it, but I think I’m over this show. It’s becoming too corny and silly for my liking. If not for Eric and Lafayette, I think I would actually stop watching. And I didn’t realize until tonight but Stephen Moyer is a really bad actor.
My reaction throughout most of the episode: O.o
Kudos to Ball for changing things up. The egg in the nest is just…odd. I have no idea what that could mean since it didn’t seem to fit with anything Sophie-Ann mentioned.
As for Sophie-Ann (Wood) herself, I think I like her portrayal. She comes off as a little of a nutcase at first, but I think she’s a lot smarter than she’s letting people think. Time will tell, I suppose. I wonder if Bill is going to mention to Sookie that her cousin said hello…methinks not.
And Eric pwning Bill was great, though the Lafayette/Eric/Sookie thing is just bizarre and I hope whatever’s going on there is resolved. Soon. That and the vampire blood plot. Seriously, the only reason I can think of that would make Eric push “V” is so he can catch buyers? What?
Don’t you think it was odd that Bill never mentioned Sookie to either the Queen or Sookie’s cousin and they all knew Bill was with Sookie? Me thinks something is fishy here. Bill is awesome!
There’s a reason for this – it’s in the books, but I won’t spoil.
yeah, they all already knew each other…it was obvious.
There is indeed a reason for this in the books, won’t spoil either but just ask yourself… Sookie knows nothing of Sophie-Ann, but Sophie-Ann knows all about Sookie, even such intimate details as the fact that Bill can feel when she is in danger… How can she know this? Bill or Eric. Why would Bill have been reporting on Sookie to the Queen, unbeknownst to Sookie (and us)? ah ah!! And also, don’t forget Hadley is a vampire in the Queen’s entourage. Now what if Sophie-Ann had heard about Sookie FIRST from another soruce than Bill or Eric? OOoh the possibilities…
I thought bill did talk about Sookie while he was there. Didn’t bill tell the queen that he only feeds off of Sookie and she said that’s a shame? The queen is intrigued by Sookie and her statement that she looks fwd to meeting Sookie just makes for more suspense. I did find it odd that no on ever said the girl was Sookie’s cousin the entire time until the cousin said “so how’s my cousin Sookie?” or something to that effect. And why does bill keep the cousin in the dark about Gram’s death and tells her it’s best she not contact Sookie? That was wierd to me.
Alexander was literally on screen for 5 minutes and he stole the whole hour…Damn he’s sexy as hell.
Totally agree.
The man is totally drool-worthy!
The only thing they’ll wrap up in 2 weeks is the Maryann story line — and that’s fine, it was a great story line but I’m ready to move on.
In the books, Eric participates in the orgy scene posing as pink lycra-clad bisexual — something Alexander Skarsgard could totally pull off. Fingers crossed they work that in….
Not if Bill’s around, I’m afraid. The only reason Eric was there to begin with was because Sookie asked for his help ’cause Bill was MIA. I would love for Eric to make an appearance, but I don’t think he’ll have too much to do with the maenad directly. We’ll probably just get some scenes with him talking to the Queen and realizing he’s Missing Something between Bill and Sookie. For now, Alan Ball seems to be taking the direction Bill = hero and Eric = bad vamp.
it is sad that alan ball seem to be hell bent on changing that part of the book (the sookie/eric angle). it is quite understandable if he takes certain liberties with the stories. but to actually change a major crux of the book series is just wrong.
thankfully it seems AB is slowly clueing us in on bill’s betrayal. eric mentioned that bill gave sookie his blood the night they met. after that sookie had a hot dream about bill just like she did with eric. bill did that to seduce her just like the queen told him to. eric is only playing bill at his own game except it’s not for the queen but for his own interests. with this it looks like AB is going to go through with the bill-betrayal in season 3.
It sucks major that AB feels he has to make Bill= good and Eric= bad! Charlain Harris didn’t see it that way and these are her creations. I can handle some storyline changes to make the showan ensemble but to change the whole thing because AB has a Bill fixation blows……..
I don’t see Eric as Bad Vamp at all. I see Eric as the smart & honest one – like it or not. Bill’s the one with the secrets and the utter inability to think anything through. Bill’s a fake good guy.
Honest he may be but he is bad to the bone. I used to like him but I hate that bitch for what he did to my Lafayette and I aint ever gonna forgive him.
I don’t think AB has totally painted Bill=good adn Eric=bad. We do see shades of each character’s other side. Bill for e.g. kills Sookie’s family member for raping/almost raping her-not sure, but he def was not supposed to do THAT. lol. He ahs bashed his maker in the head (lol) and, from what I’ve seen of other posts, fell in love with Sookie under false pretenses. Oh, and Bill also fed from the guy when he was at the queen’s place. Very easily I might add. What was up with that? I thought he did it bc teh queen pressured him into it, but I’m not so sure anymore. If he did whatever the queen asked, then why did he feel independent enough to be frustrated when she hadn’t told him what he wanted to know, and he got up to LEAVE w/o the queen’s permission! That confused me. And the queen gave in and finally answered him (in riddles I might add) how to overcome the maenad. Hmm.
Anyway, AB has shown us so far that Eric is a little softer than we care to acknoweldge. for e.g., when he rescues Sookie from that crazy church, Sookie says to Eric “you love Godric” and he says “don’t use words I don’t understand.”–to me that shows his vulnerability to love. He also had done almost anything for Godric, was willing to die with him, and cried (ugh! I can’t take vamp crying) over Godric’s loss. I think AB played up those scenes to have us feel for Eric (or start to) for whatever he ash planned in the next season.
I don’t think AB is making Bill=good and Eric=bad. If he is, it is only so he can mess your head up that much more later. Besides, he has definitely been getting Eric’s character more complexity what with the tears over Godric and then the sneaky lie to get Sookie to drink his blood. AB is prepping us for the larger role eric will play next season because AB plans on keeping “THAT” part of the storyline from the books. Oh, please, god, let it be so…..meow!
I thought the episode was hilarious! I LOVED when Jason pulled those two stupid comments out of his strange little mind- the “do you think sam has ever turned into a dog then had sex with a lady dog” and “do you think sam could turn into a rooster and lay an egg?” HAH. Such good writing.
As for the egg in the nest, it obviously has to deal with the sacrificial ceremony but I have no idea to what extent.
I also love the exchanges between Bill and Eric. I died of laughter when Eric called him Billy
Can’t wait to see Eric and Queen Sophie-Anne hook up. I’ll take any situation that may require Alexander Skarsgard to take his shirt off!!!
LOL. The credit I took away from Jason I had to return when Andy replied that Jason’s hypothetical reflected beastiality, adn JAson corrected him that it wouldn’t since Sam would be a dog and the other dog would be a dog. LOL.
I don’t think that will happen- Queen Sophie-Ann prefers women to men, and she states- something about not liking men since Eisenhower? (Also in the books she is with Hadley, Sookie’s cousin, who we met in this episode). I want more Eric and Sookie! Bill is boring.
SO not agree with you! Bill is SO hot, and him & Sookie are made for each other. The chemistry and the love radiate from them.
I agree. I’m ready for all the Sookie/Eric scenes that are in the book! I can’t wait! I love the part when Sam tells Eric he will give him anything if Eric helps him and Eric immediately says, “Can you give me Sookie Stackhouse?” I love how he says it like a little kid asking for new toy to play with. Love it! And Pam’s eye roll was the icing on the cake!
Jason was hysterical tonight, and he and Andy make a hilarious duo. ERW is fun, but not really stealing any scenes for me the way Lafayette and Eric do every week. Speaking of Eric, I was hoping for more scenes with him but he was brilliant in the scenes we did get. His monologue to Lafayette was chilling and the scene with the kids was fun. And what’s with that egg?! And I couldn’t believe that all it took was one punch to Tara’s face to get her all crazy eyed again! Can’t wait for the showdown in 2 weeks!
I like what AB has done to Andy’s character; he’s so much more funny on the show than in the books.
LOL. I called Andy and Jason the dynamic duo last night. Oh they are too much!
I liked this episode. Like you said Jason walkin into a tree was funny. Anything Eric said was sexy and awesome. I like Evan Rachel Wood as the queen, enough, but i hope she grows on me more. And I hope the finale will be worth the two week break. I love Lafayett’s fuzzy handcuffs.
I know Alan Ball isn’t sticking to the books, and I’m happy with everything so far, but if he kills off Sam, I will be upset. Sam is a part of every book, while not as important as Bill or Eric, I’d rather see Tara get killed off than Sam. She’s always creating trouble anyway.
Sophie Ann was alright, I guess, but did she have to hold Bill until she told him basically nothing. I know it is a big 2 week nothing, but still. Jason was gold. I think his life was worst. I swear Alexander Skarsgard is playing the best villian since Ian McShane’s Al Sweargin. Lafayette was reacting to Eric’s blood because he drank some too, not just Sookie so I think he is still a potential character in the story. Eggs is gone. So is Maryann. Poor Hoyt, his mother is gutter trash. Dump her for Jessica and in the meanwhile, apologize to your squeeze, too. He was too mean to her.
I hope AB keeps Lafayette around, since Lafayette and Jesus “agreed to see other people, but that don’t mean we don’t still talk from time to time…” I STILL love that line.
I usually don’t like Hoyt’s mother…but…last night’s ep made me really appreciate her. Don’t know if she was an “agreeable” woman before, but having a husband kill himself, leaving me a small boy would be devastating to me. AND she had the “wherewithall” to lie to the insurance company to get the proceeds so she could take care of Hoyt’s little behind. Although crazy, I thought it was sheroic as mom with her back up against a wall–angry at her husband for his suicide (albeit I don’t know if her personality had anything to do with his suicide-lol); but I thought she was stronger than I gave her credit for before. I don’t think Hoyt was too hard on Jessica. He didn’t break up with her, he was mad that she was killing his mama. He dislikes his mother a whole lot, but he still loves her (and respects her). Either way, he’s still young and not yet sure how to walk that fine line of loving your parent but realizing he/she is no good for you. Jessica is a new vamp–she has to learn control, especially if she wants to be w/a human. omg. I can’t believe I said that. lol.
I wonder when Eric is going to tell Sookie that Bill was ordered by the queen to start dating her?
SPOILERS FOR NON READERS:
Probably not ’till next season since he doesn’t know. And Eric didn’t tell Sookie, he made Bill ‘fess up.
That was in the book. Alan Ball does not follow the books exactly. Personally, I don’t think Ball will use that plotline. It seems like he is making Bill the hero again anyway.
Oh I disagree. Rewatch the episode. So many clues. Too many people know about the arrangement plus the Queen obviously isn’t pleased that he seems to actually like her. Once Sookie gets wind (and she will, why drop hints if you don’t follow through), I believe that’s a hole even good ole Bill can’t get out of. If it keeps going this way, I will watch anything AB does. Ever. Especially if it involves some Skarsgard

I agree Ryan!
Hint #1- the queen already knows about Sookie and Bill
hint #2- She seems upset that Bill only drinks from her
Hint #3- Bill doesn’t seem like he wants Sookie to know about Hadley
Hint #4- He actually tells Hadley not to contact home and he doesn’t tell her about her Gran.
Hint #5- Bill actually seemed nervous around Hadley
And Finally- Sophie Ann obviously asks Eric to do something about Bill….I just hope AB doesn’t somehow turn it around to make Eric= bad and Bill= good again. At the risk of all you non-readers ire, in the books Eric didn’t know about Bill and the Queen and is mad that Bill usurped his authority by working with the queen behind his back and made Bill tell Sookie the truth.
THIS IS NOT THE BOOKS. You don’t know what’s going to happen. None of us do.
There were also some hints in the first season. I don’t remember the dialogue exactly, but it was between Eric and Bill, something about “Sookie must be protected” and Eric was all “Why…..?”
@CarolAnne: Of course it’s not the books and no one knows what’s going to happen. We’re just speculating on the foreshadowing. ‘Cause there’s plenty of foreshadowing that SOMETHING is amiss.
I definitely see it happening in Season 3 or 4. I also can’t wait for the fact that Sookie is 100% human to come out. I keep thinking maybe that’s what was behind her glowing hand but nothing is for certain.
I think another HUGE clue that’s been overlooked is that Bill practically LET the Rattrays (sp?) catch him last season. I mean, I thought I was the only one to think, Damn, Bill, you really fell into their trap that easily? They were obviously really sketchy (which I’m sure Bill noticed) and I thought he had some ulterior motives for being caught. If AB is gonna follow this deception route, this makes a lot more sense to me
I haven’t read the books–and I’m ALL for you guys to continue discussing what’s in the books vs on tv. It doesn’t give away anything bc AB is not could and could not follow it. Even if he did follow the books, and you guys told it word for word, I would still watch it; it’s just a cool show. ANyhoo, I do see the foreshadowing. They wouldn’t tlak about it so much for it not to come out in season 3 or 4. I can’t wait.
I have a feeling that there was more going on in last night’s ep than we got to see. There’s the fact that Eric knew about Bill giving Sookie his blood, which he should not have known. This suggests to me that there’s a lot more going on than Bill is aware of, and that in turn suggests that he’s not in Sophie-Ann’s confidence the way people think he is. The preview for ep 2.12 – which can be found on youtube – would also seem to indicate this. There is a clip of Eric and the queen in which he says, “I will take care of Bill Compton.” That suggests that he’s the one in Sophie-Ann’s confidence.
Also, Bill was with the queen for quite a while, but we saw him with her for no longer than ten minutes, possibly less. And just as Bill was leaving, when Sophie-Ann says she’s looking forward to meeting Sookie, Bill looks rather queasy. Now I suppose you could make the argument that he’s just afraid that the queen will out him to Sookie when she meets her, but it wouldn’t behoove Sophie-Ann to out Bill, since I can’t help but think that would ruin her cunning plan, so he shouldn’t be worried about that. Sophie-Ann has been compared to a cross between Paris Hilton and Hannibal Lecter, and last night we saw mostly Paris Hilton, but there was a bit of a subtle edge to her, too, every time she said “I insist.” Bill certainly took it as a threat, and since he’s not one to sit back while Sookie is in danger, it would seem that the threat must have been serious.
And last of all, almost everyone seems to know about what goes on in the books with Bill, Sookie, and the queen, and last night seemed to be all about pointing us in that direction, but it was all very subtle. The only thing that we know for sure from the ep is that the queen knows about Bill’s relationship with Sookie, and that he has a blood bond with her. It’s assumed that he knows Hadley previously, but that isn’t for sure – it might be that we just didn’t get to see the introduction. After all, there were huge parts of Bill’s time there that we didn’t get to see. And since everyone is expecting Bill to be working for the queen, wouldn’t it be a that much bigger kick in the pants to point us in that direction and then not give us what we expect?
After she gets shot and is in the hospital.
That didn’t happen until the 5th book, but I guess AB will do it earlier on the show since he’s been hinting about it since Season 1. I wonder if that will be the reason Sookie and Bill break up instead of Bill leaving her for Lorena.
Loved Sophie Anne. She is a hoot.
The giant egg just creeped me out.
Funniest moment would be Jason walking into the tree. Scariest Sookie spooning the coroner on the floor where her grandmother died.
Where is the finale going, I’ve no clue but I am certainly going along for the ride. I really hope Sam doesn’t die, but he seems too important of a character to kill off.
Best moment(s) were all about Eric. Loved the teacup humans comment, it what I will call my kids from now on. That whole scene was priceless. Loved Eric playing with his hair while messing with Billy. I could have lived without seeing him in that dress though.
I have to agree that all the best moments were Eric’s. To me the most disturbing thing was Eric in the dress/blouse. I had to go back 2 episodes (on my dvr) to see him naked in bed to get that out of my head.
I have really enjoyed all of this season of True Blood. I have read all nine books and was disappointed that the Elvis Vamp would not be included next season. The reason this show works is because of the camp. Eric is really hot and I hope as in the books he becomes Shookies next hot affair. I can’t wait for the next season.
The Elvis vampire aka Bubba would be cheesy on the show. It’s kind of cheesy in the books too.
Agree, I hated that part of the book.
I don’t know, I kinda liked Bubba and Sookies friendship. If they did it right it could be cute, funny and sweet.
Oooh. I hadn’t heard of that. Yeah, that sounds like too much. Camp is a delicate thing that requires balance. Explaining Elvis’ death and a vamp version of him? Ick.
Bubba needs a part in the show, and Pam needs to explain his existence, she could pull it off, easy
Love Bubba. And he does some important stuff in the books. It would be really really hard for AB to convert that to TV.
Oh forget bill, I hope alan ball does use that plotline its very important to the book series and sookie suitors.. Spolier*** Bill started dating sookie because of the queen, and eric who deep down does love her which is obvious thru all 9 books has to get together.. Because I don’t get the shower scene I will be soooo pissed.. And Bill is suppose to be gone because of the vampire directory.. Sigh** I don’t know how I am going to last two weeks with out my True Blood fix let alone till next summer.. The most I can hope for is Book 10 in May…
I hope they do the Eric Sookie shower scene too.
Right and not just as a dream!
Ooh, yes please. Eric with Sookie in the shower, very nice. Those two are so good together.
I will throw a huge bad word fit if i dont get my shower scene. So help me god.
LOL.
ahh… the famous shower scene. it looks like AB won’t be giving us our eric in pink tights scene so he had better pull through with the shower scene at the VERY LEAST
Now maybe if you book readers started chirping about how Bill deceived Sookie in the books he would have used that storyline but now that you constantly spoil it I highly doubt he’s going to use that plotline. You went and messed it up for yourselves.
They way Bill is portrayed, I have a hard time beleiving he is actually evil. There is just too much good there–his conscience is developed. He helps me believe in the overall goodness of the universe!! Don’t make him evil, Alan!!
Neither Bill nor Eric are evil in the books, Catbee, nor in the show. It’s kind of the point. Each and every character is complicated and there’s more going on than what we see on the surface. In the books (OH NOEZ I SAID “IN THE BOOKS”) some people switched from liking Bill to liking Eric. Some still like Bill, some always liked Eric. So…since no one knows what Alan Ball is going to do on the show…you might still like Bill
Uh-huh, like AB sits on the EW boards and takes notes as to what we want to see. If that was the case, we’d be seeing a lot more of naked Eric.
AB has been hinting about that since Season 1 so it’s obviously going to be on the show.
Javs is quite correct about the complexity of the characters. Unlike cartoon characters, they are neither black nor white, but both plus shades of gray as well. What a vampire’s personality was as a human can carry over somewhat into their new “life,” yet their customs and ways of living changes them. For example, Bill was a southern gentleman and he has never hurt a child, either before or after being made a vampire.
I just finished watching the new episode tonight, and have to say it was kind of dumb. I love EWR playing Sophie (queen), she rocks, but want more of the story version from the books in the episodes. All the orgies, and Maryann plot – is being “hollywoodized” into crap! Go back to the books more, and get back with the hotties – Eric, Quinn, the fairies… I have read all the books (more than once), and love the show – but it’s getting too off track for me! Oh, this whole waiting 2 weeks for the finale – is torture!!!
It’s just Season 2 and the seasons are based on the corresponding book so the fairies won’t appear until Season 3 or 4. But they have dropped a strong hint with that whole white light thing that Sookie did.
I know! But more importantly, why did the white light happen just then? Can she do it anytime or was it just cause she was amped up over what Maryann did to Bill or cause it was her house or some other required ingredient? And, could she have done it to Tara and gotten rid of the saucer eyes without having to go in her head?
