Kate Gosselin as a co-host on 'The View': She and others may make us wish Elisabeth Hasselbeck a longer maternity leave

kate-gosselin_lElisabeth Hasselbeck’s maternity leave may turn out to be one of the best things to happen to The View, given the line-up of guest replacements that’s ever-growing.

It’s been announced that Kate Gosselin will sub for Elisabeth on Sept. 14 and 15. (Could this be the kind of thing Kate was referring to on Larry King Live when she said she had “big dreams”?)

Add Kate’s name to a list that also includes:

• Meghan McCain, the outspoken, articulate daughter of John McCain, Sept. 9 and 10

• La Toya Jackson, who’ll either be dully prim or a loose cannon, I predict — there’s no middle ground with La Toya — Sept. 16 and 18

• Fox News’ E.D. Hill, who has perfected her own combo of ditzy cheerfulness and political agenda-bearing, Sept. 23 and 24

Yep, I’m looking forward to seeing any and all of these women give Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Whoopi Goldberg reasons to argue and explode. Who knows? One of the guest co-hosts might even prompt an interesting comment from Sherri Shepherd.

Are you looking forward to any of these guest co-hosts?

I will miss Elisabeth but will be interested to see what the guest hosts have to offer.

    • B Baxter

I do not miss Elizabeth at all, many of the guests have more to offer than she does. Especially her political views.

      • P J McCluskey

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has nothing to offer on the view. She thinks she knows things that others don’t she cannot believe she is so lacking in becoming a person who is able to be smart & relevent. Yuk to her lack of intelligence!!

  • Stacy

I like Elisabeth – I’d like to see anyone replace Joy – even Elmo would be better.

    • Klev

You like E.H. but want Joy replaced?!?! No accounting for taste.

      • GoddessLu

Amen. At least Joy is funny…EH is a bore and small-minded.

      • Zach

Joy is small-minded too, and if you don’t see that, you’re just buying into their liberal propaganda! But then that’s probably why you watch.

      • amj

        agreed

      • livilynne

Rather than the conservative propoganda. I love how everyone can see how misled the OTHER side is! HA HA for all of you!

    • teresa

I love Joy. She is intelligent, insightful, and funny as hell!

      • Sassy

Joy is overbearing and an idiot!

      • Mary Sicard

Are you kidding. Recently she proved she has no compassion for anyone and if you think she is funny then there is something wrong with you.

    • ANNIE

      “Liz” is Elmo!!

    • wakeforce

Joy speaks to truth and if you don’t see that then you are drinking the RepubliCON’S Kool-Aid.

      • michelle

        I agree – Joy’s awesome!

      • Mary Sicard

        Awesomely terrible!

  • chadbbb

Good riddens to Elisabeth! Can’t stand her! But, Kate Gosselin to host? Thats even worse. What a bunch of losers! The only 2 that need to do that show is, Barbara and Whoopi, thats it! No one else! Thats my opinion and I’m sticking to it!

    • Carole

@ chadbbb – totally spot on – two hosts are enough – any more and it turns into major ego catfighting – can anyone say meeeeeoooowwwwwrrrrrr

    • CFF

Kate Gosselin??? Give me a break…CLICK!!

  • CommanderBill

Gorgeous and witty Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the only reason to watch the view. As the only person on the show who is sane she brings enormous and fascinating composure when faced with a panel of irrational narcissistic and tedious prim Donnas.

    • Dudek

“Witty”? What is your definition of witty? Even die-hard conservatives I know who watch The View can’t stand Elisabeth, mostly for her shrill, and terribly non-witty personality.

    • Klev

Though they do exist, there are so few conservative comedians, who are funny, because humor requires one to look at things from a new or unexpected angle, a characteristic at odds with conservative thinking.

      • Sassy

        Spoken like a liberal!

      • Kate

P.J. O’ Rourke, for example, is very conservative and incredibly witty. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is many things, but “witty” is not one of them.

      • wakeforce

Elisabeth is free to LEAVE if she does’t like where she’s at, but because I suspect she gets a big paycheck, she won’t go anywhere. As for Terri, you need an upping of your meds!

    • teresa

I can’t stand Elisabeth’s emotional outbursts. She takes everything political way too seriously and personal.

      • Terri

Of COURSE SHE WOULD!!! She’s in the presence of those ridiculously rude and stupid LIBERALS!!!! I like Elisabeth — why is it that the other two can voice their opinions yet all you freaking Liberals out there won’t let HER?? OH — I get it: b/c ALL REPUBLICANS AND CONSERVATIVES ARE BAD.
        Right. Get real. Shut up.

      • Skip182

Lol, Terri would be great at one of those town hall meetings. Even over the internet I could feel the seething, missinformed behavior. Thumbs up : )

      • drew

        skip182 –so true

    • barb

or Commander …. is it that she’s the youngest and better looking of the bunch? With those qualities guys don’t usually notice the lack of smarts.

  • kay

Best wishes to Elisabeth, and look forward to your return.

  • Brenda

I really won’t miss her. I’m not one of her greatest fans. I wish she would stay on a long leave.

  • CJ

Kate’s “big dreams” are to exploit her children while promoting herself, period, and I have no interest in hearing her opinion of ANYTHING.

    • AuntieMM

Absolutely in agreement. I just wish she’d go away and spend all her time raising those kids.

    • teresa

I will NOT watch while Kate is on the show. She is using her children as a platform to further her “career”, whatever that is. I am sad that the View is contributing to the exploitation of the kids.

      • dale

Oh please, what is wrong with Kate trying to make a living? Any of you would jump at an opportunity like this. Get off your high horse.

      • Terri

That’s right — one question for all you perfecto Kate-hating women out there: who is your favorite actress??? I’ll bet you if you’re like most main-stream Americans, they’re one of many actresses who HAVE KIDS and yet still work. Better yet, I bet some of those actresses have been on eality shows that include their kids. What the heck is the big deal about it — you watch Kate’s kids and they’re happy, smiling and well-cared for! Even Jon says that…
Tehre is absolutely nothing wrong with being a working mother. Who cares if Kate gets her start by having a reality show that features her brood!!!

      • michelle

@ Terri – I couldnt have said it better myself! Also, these Kate Bashers: what about Octo-Mom? There’s a true nut job for ya.

      • susanp

Teri- my favorite actress doesn’t parade her kids around like trained monkeys and subject them to endless hours of tedious filming in their own home just to support her lifestyle. My favorite actress actually has talent and uses it to support her kids, not the other way around.

    • denise

I totally agree. I will NOT be watching the view those two days

      • barb

what’s wrong with Kate trying to make a living is that she is doing it in fields she is not qualified for and has nothing to contribute, case in point, Maria Shriver’s Womens Conference next month and The View.

  • ZaZa

I like Elizabeth too. It’s nice to hear others agree. Joy is condescending and often mean. Stacy, you’re right, Elmo would be MUCH better in her place.

    • Sassy

      Absolutely! Bring on ELMO!

  • Tina

Best wishes to Elizabeth during her maternity leave!

However, I can’t stand her. She is so naive about life.

  • ZaZa

ChadBBB, the show is about different VIEWS, not just the one view shared by Whoopi and Barbara. Your narrow minded approach to life will be the fall of America. Unlike you, I appreciate the diversity of other peoples views.

    • Carole

Yeah – lets here some coherent comments about different views – when I tune in (when I’m really bored) all I hear is blah blah blah – talking over each other and general crap – then I remember why it’s not on the DVR recording sequence

    • teresa

I appreciate to other people’s views too but only when presented without emotions. Elisabeth has to remember that politicians come and go. They are not her personal friends and they don’t have to be defended by her. Every time someone says something negative about anything republican or conservative you just know she’ll take it personally and get all upset and then she won’t shut up. And she NEVER drops a subject and moves on. She goes on and on about something and never lets up. Why do I watch this show????? Oh yeah, Joy, Sherry, and Whoopi.

      • Melissa

        Teresa – most EXCELLENT response!!

I too enjoy a different views and a good healthy debate. However, Elisabeth has shown over and over that this is not her forte.

I really liked John McCain’s daughter on the show. She could present her views intelligently and articulatly. There was another conservative I enjoyed (surprise) but I dont remember who it was now.

I like Whoopi and Joy both of whom are very intelligent but Joy lets E suck her into the negative a little too often.

and lets face it, Barbars just needs to retire.

      • Skip182

Agreed. A good debate is one thing, but what she’s doing is another. And Melissa makes a good point about McCain’s daughter. Even as a liberal, I was very impressed by her elloquence. She would be a very good replacement.

  • Verdat

Look up Whoopi singing the Star Spangled Banner around 1993 A true patriot – then couse we have barbwa wa wa – what swill!

  • Tyre

I’m rather looking forward to Kathy Griffin being on the show after being banned, then not being banned, then being re-banned and now coming back again. Hopefully it’ll be when either Latoya or Kate are there…lol, can only imagine the possibilities.

    • Michael H.

You’re in luck! Kathy Griffin is schedule for Sept. 18 – one of the days with guest co-host LaToya!

      • V

OMG! I’ll have to buy some Depends to wear when I watch Kathy and LaToya!!! Fully expecting to pee my pants laughing.

      • Chappel

I doubt she will have much to say to Latoya. Kathy Griffin generally sticks to talking trash about people behind their backs (unless they work for her or are related). When she’s face to face with them she’s usually sucking up.

    • Mary Sicard

I think Joy is a terrible person but she can’t hold a candle to Kathy Griffin. Kathy is the biggest piece of trash ever to be on television.

  • lmb

I am looking forward to see Kate. It will be interesting to see another side of her, her views and opinions about real issues. I really do not care about Elizabeth…she annoys me.

    • mrt

Not really. I’ve heard enough of her views on “organics” to realize that she’s not that intelligent. And her view that children parading in front of cameras is good, healthy and normal? NOT! The only difference I see between her (and Jon Gosselin) and Octomom is TLC editing.

    • Jana

I am interested in hearing Kate express her opinion that the government should provide financial support to parents of multiples who used IVF to get pregnant. Her theory is that if the government is going to “approve” this kind of fertility programs, then they should help the parents pick up the tab for raising the “government’s” children. Let Whoppi, Babs, and the rest discuss THAT with her, please?

      • me

have you never said anything that in retrospect you wish you hadn’t? Sure you have, stop latching onto whatever negative you can find, she has found a way to stay off government assistance with 8 kids and my guess is you complain about that too…..she can’t win for trying…

      • barb

Good comments Jana, and ‘me’ Kate can’t take back everything that has come out of her mouth (there’s toooo much because if you’ve ever noticed in most pics her mouth is wide open even when she’s just strutting around somewhere)

    • roogranm

If she put as much in her 8 kids as she does in her looks, she’d be a great mom. But, I don’t think there’s any chance of that. How does she have time to spend any more time away from the children? She’s a neglectful parent.

      • Winn

She’s a neglectful parent by going to work and supporting her children financially? Really.

  • Shan

With anyone other than Elisabeth on there, I’m more likely to watch! I can’t believe I voted for that right-wing-nut job-on Survivor!

  • Diggity

I love ED Hill. She’s adorable.
