New 'True Blood': Sookie really 'shocks' Maryann, and 'This has got to be the worst intervention in history'

true-blood-maryann_l

With only two episodes to go now, True Blood devoted this week to wild danger and a surprising amount of humor. I won’t soon forget the spectacle of Andy holding a tree branch behind Jason’s head to make him appear to be a demon-god to the possessed folks of Bon Temps.

(Stop right here now if you don’t want to read spoilers.)

Sam stated the goal of the evening succinctly: that Maryann wants “to cut out my heart while a buncha naked people watch.” Indeed, Maryann’s moving into position as this season’s Big Bad has never seemed more apparent… that is, unless it’s the unnamed “he” that Tara referenced, saying, “He’s gonna kill us all.” (Maybe readers of Charlaine Harris’ novels know something I don’t about the series’ villains; I’m working with what’s on my TV screen.)

At any rate, among the key moments and best scenes this week:

• Jason in chainsaw commando mode, even if no one was particularly scared by him

• Sookie giving Maryann some kind of powerful jolt, evidence of powers Sookie possesses that even she wasn’t aware of

• Bill going fang-first for Maryann’s neck only to end up with a mouthful not of blood, but some noxious, choking black super-bile (I made that term up, can you tell?)

• Lafayette, gazing at a hostility-spewing Tara and muttering, “That has got to be the worst m—– f—in’ intervention in history”

While a helluva lot of fun, this was one of the slighter episodes as far as its plot was concerned, because we were ahead of Bill and Sookie in knowing what was going on at every step. In fact, I was surprised that Bill was as shocked as he was at Tara’s spellbound condition, at the black-eyed vacancy of Hoyt’s mother, and so baffled about the nature of Maryann’s sacrificial totem erected in Sookie’s yard. Why wouldn’t a vampire who’s lived for so long know this stuff?

Oh well, at least Bill (leaving Sookie alone again!) seems to know who to go to for help, as this rather short (46 minutes by my count) episode ended with the vampire going to “the Queen,” whom we know from previous previews will be Evan Rachel Wood, right?

Bottom line: True Blood under the guidance of Alan Ball continues to mix sex and violence in ways TV has never seen. Helped by the first-rate performances being given by Anna Paquin and Michelle Forbes, women have rarely seemed as potent in the supernatural world conjured up by this deliriously good series.

I repeat: only two episodes left. Did you watch this night? What did you think? What do you think is going to happen next?

Alan Ball is such a tease because of those first few minutes!

    • Jackson

BIG NEWS REGARDING SHORT RUNNING TIME: I let my DVR’d trueblood run through the credits, after a long add for HUNG, there was a ten minute ‘VAMPIRE REPORT” It was hosted by a blonde and featured many fake news stories taking place in the True Blood universe. I think it would have been broadcast everywhere, but if it matters i watched it in canada.
I for one always wanted to learn more about Ball’s interpretation of the rest of the world. I enjoyed it.

      • Kim

I did not get that at all! That would have been great to see!

      • Vicki

These are also available if you have HBO OnDemand. There are a whole bunch of them.

      • Javs

        I didn’t see that…and I don’t have HBO OnDemand :(

      • Rancid Karma

It repeats many times a week so you can try again.

      • gerritv

In the US those reports are available on ‘HBO On Demand’.

      • Cris

Thanks so much for posting this! good thing I didn’t delete the DVR’d epi last night.

    • Trish

Don’t read Fairypants post, it contains a MAJOR spoiler. If you’ve read the books, no worries. If you haven’t read them, you should their awesome!

      • Trish

D’oh! I meant they’re awesome. Not their. Darn grammar.

    • ME

I cant wait for the next episode. This was awesome and really funny. You can tell they’re throwing STRONG HINTS about what Bill is really up to. Loved it!!

    • imissianto

If you’re just getting to read this comment board, watch out–HUGE SPOILER BELOW!!!!!!!!!! DON’T READ FAIRYPANTS’ POST if you don’t want to know.

  • truebloodfan

I am a huge fan of true blood and have read all of the books…however, I am soo disappointed with tonight’s episode. The Maryann storyline is getting dragged out…the b*@%h needs to die already. Not to mention they only made this episode 46 minutes…I feel cheated!!

    • Nala

I agree this was way too short. But overall, it was a fun episode. Hoyt’s mother, Jason playing ‘The God Who Comes” saying you’ll have good weather and great crops. Sam showing up naked in front of Andy and Jason. Sookie zapping Maryann. Lafayette’s intervention of Tara, the crazy townspeople and Sookie’s dream of Eric. All fun!

      • Holly

I could agree more with you! I laughed more during this episode than any to date. Love it. Hate that there’s only 2 shows left :(

      • TMRZooNeil

Without question, one of the funniest eps so far. The whole scene with Jason standing on the car as “the god who comes” was hilarious, just made all the more funny by Andy holding a branch behind his head to give him horns. That is some great TV right there.

    • RLH

      I agree, truebloodfan…clearly
Maryann is the key to the season, but I sure wouldn’t have made her the focus FOR THE WHOLE SEASON! I don’t think she’ll be offed till the last episode…ugghh! We didn’t get our show turned on tia ll a little after 10 on the dvr, so we didn’t realize it ran short – how can they do such a ripoff?**))>>?**

    • Good Ep

I politely disagree with you on the whole Maryann storyline. If you havent noticed, this is the only horror-factor of the show at the moment. W/o her we’d probably be caught up in a cheesy love triangle right now. Leave that to the Twilight crowd please

      • Liz

I agree. I’m getting tired of this Team nonsense. The show is so much more than that.

      • paige

I love Maryann and I will be very sad when they get rid of her. I do believe its dragging a little bit but any chance i get to see a little more Maryann makes me very very happy. by far this season is wayyy better than the last

      • April

Hey leave the Twilight fans out of it I love True Blood and a fan of Twilight ease up there is enough vamp entertainment for all!

      • Jello

Obviously you haven’t read the books. Every single one starting at i think the second or third is all about sookie/bill/eric. Plus I am sooo sick of Maryann! she’s like one chapter in the whole series. They really dragged it out.

      • Delon

I LOVE Maryann. She is the only menacing character on the show. Without her this season would have been very tame. I wanna be a maenad. Too bad i’m a guy.

      • Nikki

I like the dynamic Maryann brings to the show but according to the books there is a lot more of the love triangle. Also…I am a huge fan of True Blood but also Twilight–both of which pick up momentum with each book. The best is yet to come for both series–and there is no need to bash one or the other. To each their own.

  • kpm

It was 46 minutes by my count too and if I remember correctly, they had shorter episodes last season too. Seriously irritating.

The supporting characters (Jason, Lafayette, Terry, etc.) really took the cake this episode. When Maxine tried to come on to Jason, I almost peed myself from laughing so much.

    • Buck

Im hooked on the show, but i feel the same way, Gosh get it over with. The suspence is killing me. If they drag it on too long, im not interested anymore.

      • Danny

umm, there are only 2 episodes left? What do you think they are going to be about? I really doubt they are going to make up a whole new plotline at the last minute. It’s obvious that MaryAnne is the Big Bad of the Season or maybe the Dionysis guy.

    • Sami

haha I couldn’t believe it. short episode but totally awesome. can’t wait until next week.

      • Chris

        Spoiler Alert Below :P

  • FairyPants

I am thinking “the god who comes” is Bacchus (roman) Dionysus (greek). IN THE BOOK (which really means nothing) Sookie and Jason are part fairy… hence the super cool ability to ZAP :)

    • Rose Tyler

Talking about the books is fine but that’s possibly a huhe spoiler if the show even goes in that direction. Let us readers of the books only talk about relevant things and not ruin huge possible storylines for the the others. Regarding the question, “Him” is probably Bachus but the books are really no help when it comes to Maryanne. Alan Ball did an excellent job taking a very small storyline in book 2 and it expanding it to make very compelling tv. My one complaint is, couldn’t the missing 15 minutes of the episode have been used to give us more Eric?

      • Nala

Thanks RT, I agree. Book readers, please keep future plot lines to yourselves. I’m trying to enjoy this story as it unfolds on True Blood and be surprised by it. I don’t have time to read the books. People already ruined the Sookie-Bill plotline for me and now FairyPants has ruined another.

      • fluff

Nala, whine, whine, whine. This is a “spoiler alert” article. Fairypants can say anything he/she wants about the books. Not our fault you are illiterate.

      • vampgirl

HA! I agree with you completely Rose Tyler. An extra 15 minutes of Eric would have made last nights episode on of my favorites.

      • Linda

I agree. Iloved the episode, but the last 15 minutes could’ve been MORE ERIC! That’s the only thing that was missing, although, I loved the first part and can’t wait for Eric and Sookie to hook up.

      • chris

sookie and eric never hook up on the show AB already said he won’t write that part he’s keeping it sookie and bill. and typical women wants her to cheat on the nice guy who loves her for the deceitful one who will use her and abuse her. typical women though always wants to be treated like crap.

      • bh

Sorry Chris, hate to burst your bubble but AB didn’t say that Sookie and Eric will never get together or that it will always be Bill and Sookie. In fact from what I heard it looks like that whats going to happen in Season 3, which is pretty much when Bill and Sookie hit the skids in the books too. Oh and as far as “typical women” wanting to cheat on the nice guy- Bill has lied to her, given her his blood w/o telling her that it would make him irresistable to her, he has kept BIG secrets from her and placed her in danger many times, plus at one point he was a viciuos killer when he was with Lorena. Nice guy!

      • Liz

BH – I haven’t seen any of what you mentioned on the show and since this is a recap of the show I’m going to assume that’s what you’re discussing. 1. The first time Bill gave his blood to Sookie she was dying. REmember? She got the snot kicked out of her by the Rattrays. He saved her life. 2. Maybe he has kept secrets from her but I don’t know what they are. 3. He’s a vampire so of course he was a vicious killer at one point. Sookie knows this. Plus, if Bill wasn’t there to stop Longshadow from killing Sookie she would have died. Neither Eric or Pam moved a finger to save her. So while he may be keeping secrets, and though he most certainly not simply black or white, he has definitely proven he loves Sookie. It’s Eric’s turn to do the same.

      • Christy

Liz…I totally agree. I think the missing minutes couls have been filled up nicely with Eric. Im interested to see this new dynamic between Sookie and Eric. I like that pairing, better than the Bill/Sookie pairing.

      • Goldielox

        Definitely more Eric..What a total hottie…

      • jay

someone wrote three pages of the godric/eric
        relationship thru centuries.. awesome would
        love fans to read it

    • Fen

I agree! Actually I was very disappointed with this epidsode(a first) and the fact that it was 15 short really pissed me off! I also agree that those minutes could have been used to focus on Eric!

    • Jalal

I think it is really F*CKING rude, to give away such a huge spoiler as that.

If they run off of that story-line, you now have spoiled that entire thing for me and whoever else has read your comment. Thanks a lot.

      • beebster

        oh please cry baby

      • ImStillToni

I completely agree with you. I haven’t read the books and if that storyline does play out, I will be PO’ed. Obviously beebster doesn’t comprehend that. jerk.

      • Chappel

What part of “Stop right here now if you don’t want to read spoilers” is so hard for you to understand? If you don’t want to read about things in the book, don’t read the blogs.

      • onlymystory

Exactly. What did you expect the whole world to keep silent on the fact that Jacob is a werewolf in Twilight in case you missed the phenomenon and stuck to the books? Oh, and on the spoiler front, you knew Dumbledore dies in the latest Harry Potter right? And you know the whole thing about Santa Claus?
Seriously, the whole point of blog/forums is for fans to discuss theories. If there are books that tie in to a movie or show, its a guarantee that fans will be discussing them. Stick to your television if you don’t want surprises.

      • Danny

Alan Ball has proven they aren’t going 100% off the books so calm down. I really hope it isn’t a “fairy thing” because that’s just going above and beyond the limits of my believability. I have no problems with monsters, werewolves and vampires but when they start bringing in fairies and leprauchauns, its gonna get lame real quick.

      • Sweetbaboo

Folks – there’s no need to be rude — people are discussing “theories”, not trying to give stuff away — I don’t believe any of us are Alan Ball and therefore, we don’t have a clue as to what’s going to happen — yes the books exist but it’s not like he’s followed them to the letter — Lafayette died in the first one — Tara is a minor character — Arlene becomes a MAJOR follower of FOTS — Maryanne didn’t wreak this much havoc — that’s a big part of why i’m enjoying this series so much — even tho i’ve read all the books, i have no idea what’s going to happen next — just sit back and let it go…

      • Rose Tyler

Um Sweetbabo the point is that Alan Ball does use plenty from the books and this forum is to discuss last night’s episode not future events in the books(Godric’s end for instance). If you insist on talking about what could happen in the future at least put Spoiler Alert or In The Book so those who would like to keep it all a mystery can. Plenty of people like Ken are choosing not to read the books so that they can be completely surprised.

      • Rose Tyler

I meant that Godric’s end in the book was the same as the show and if people had babbled about it then last week’s stunning end would have been ruined for many.

      • Leo

Honestly though, I read the comments for the spoilers (*this week I wanted to see who readers think ‘he’ is)
Why would people read the comments if they don’t want to know anything?

      • ME

It’s not that big of a deal. If Alan Ball keeps it in the show then we won’t find out about it until Season 5 or 6. But it looks like he might bring it into play earlier because that whole “zap” thing wasn’t in the book.

      • ImStillToni

Chappel- the spoiler alert is for those who have not watched the episode, NOT for those who haven’t read the book. Tucker did not mention the book once, so why would anyone think reading a column after they watched the ep expect someone to announce a book plotline that COULD come to fruition. GTFO, it was uncalled for and it’s my (and many others) opinion, tyvm.

      • dexx

I really dont think anything was spoiled by the info given. I still would like to see it plus that useful info helps ‘US’ who hadnt read the book understand what happened and why….PLEASE GIVE ME MORE SPOILERS I CANT WAIT FOR SUNDAY

    • Matthew

Thank you, I was really wanting to know what direction Sookie’s powers go in, in the book. Don’t listen to the lame people that think that saying that is a Spoiler. If you notice in tonights episode when Jason is wanting to go off and fight to save Sam, Sookie pleads with him not to go alone. Bill says to let him, he’ll be ok because he has proven his self. Well I took it that Bill sense’s that Jason has some sort of “power” as well. Now we know he was perplexed when Sookie “shocked” Mary-Anne, but he since something “differnt” about her early on then asked “what are you”….just a thought

    • Zayne

What the crap man? Why would you not say spoiler alert. Thanks for ruining it for everyone a-hole.

      • SLB

What part of “(Stop right here now if you don’t want to read spoilers.)” did you not understand?

      • Esther Greenwood

SLB, Ken’s spoiler alert is for the episode, not the series. I wish people would stop using that as an excuse. He’s talking about what happened last night, not what’s going to happen in the next two episodes.

      • imissianto

Not talking about Ken Tucker, SLB. We’re talking about FairyPants and his/her post, which was completely free of anything mentioning it had a huge spoiler in it.

    • Jessica

Im not sure that saying Sookie and Jason are part fairy is really a spoiler…they dont even know that until book 7, but they appear to be introducing it into the show pretty early. It doesn’t really affect anything if you know that or not because it wont change the plot…its just more of an explanation of why sookie is different.

      • Jul

actually it is book 8 and Jason doesn’t really find out until book 9

      • Christy

Uhhhh, somehow I knew Sookie and Jason were Fairies and I havent even read the books! Ya gotta know they are something> Its not in the water people. What I dont know is who is the Queen? And who is “He” that comes?

    • Machunny

I’m thinking the line “the god who comes” was an intentional play on words written precisely for the character of Jason to deliver. Work it around for a minute, and it gets funnier.

    • Charlaine Harris Fan

I know the books and have respect for Alan Ball’s choices. But, my take on Maryanne’s long stay in Bon Temp is to make the book series last longer. I remember in the book, that she did not last very long and her interest was Eric’s bar. But, if you read the books she was interesting and that I believe Mr. Ball was reading into it. The comedy was hot and heavy in last night’s episode.

    • Tatas

Fairypants is the true evil here.

      • Javabooknut

Calm down people. I’ve read all the books twice and I still have no idea what AB is gonna do week to week. I love a lot of changes he has made 1. keeping layfayette alive, 2 Jessica 3 Jessica and Hoyt but maryann is a drag. Also means no Eric in Neon spandex at an orgy. Is that a spoiler since AB isn’t doing it? Where do youwant people that like the books to go to not offend you. seriously.

    • imissianto

Dude, NOT cool! Why the heck would you post this? Granted, the show has changed the books around quite a bit so far, so there’s no guarantee the show will play out like they do in the books, but still, this is a serious spoiler, and you seriously suck for posting it. I’m a book reader, too, yet I know there’s an “etiquette” for posting theories–and SPOILER NOTICES!!!–on boards where there are non-book readers. Not. Cool.

      • Cooley

I understand everyone being upset about the book spoiler but excuse me, I have read all the books and I don’t remember Sookie zapping anyone. It’s pretty obvious that in the series Sookie is special and that she is supernatural. Easy to pick up without reading the books. However, I do agree that giving away plot lines from the books is not cool (although I do it all the time to annoy my husband and son).

  • sweeda

this night’s episode was slow and not the best i’ve seen. but guess it’s because everyone had some catching up to do. best part was the beginning with eric… yummy as always.

  • A.W

Its annoying they are cutting the episodes shorter. We only get 12 episodes each season. Those episodes should be a full hour! Not to mention we have to wait FOREVER for the next season.
Lafayette is a brilliant character. I can never get enough of him!

    • Fen

Again I agree! What a let down! Not only to short but very lame! And is it me or is Bill becoming annoying as hell!

      • Wills

“becoming” annoying? He’s been a wet blanket for a while now…more ERIC!!!

      • Liz

Not for me. Love Bill. Especially that last scene with him walking in to see the Queen. Just my opinion though.

      • Rancid Karma

Is he shrinking? Bill has lost all his appeal for me. Also, we can see the hole in your ear. I think it’s O.K. to put an earring in it.

    • C.J.

Lafayette (TB) = Omar (TW). Seriously. Still an interesting character though… I wonder if he’s… slowly turning… “make me a vampire.”

      • Javabooknut

Um I like TW but first of all this book series was out way before that and they were already shooting this series before the writer’s strike got in the way, therefore it has notthing to do with TW.

    • Julie

I have to agree about Lafayette. It’s the one major change the show has done from the books that I’ve really enjoyed.

      SPOILER:

Lafayette DIES in the books and really is an insignificant character.

LOL Not to get caught in the spoiler nonsense.

Fact is…the little spark nonsense that Sookie did to Maryann…reminded me of Tinkerbell..who IS a fairy…

So there you go peeps. As for the MaryAnn storyline? Too drawn out…to annoying. Yes, great acting from Michelle Forbes. But I was over it several episodes ago.

And while I don’t want the focus to be on the triangle – because I just want her to resolve it and let the other pine away – I would like to see further development of Sookie.

As for the Queen. This part of the storyline IS a departure from the books. I look forward to seeing where Ball takes us.

Oh and all you foo fooers…this is all entertainment. If knowing what happens in a book vs. a show makes you stamp your feet like children and cry foul…

Perhaps we’re not old enough to be watching such mature content.

Nuff said. Spoilers and whining about spoilers IN A BLOG…just set my hair on end.

      • imissianto

Julie, spoilers ruined the major twists in Fight Club and The Usual Suspects for me, and it didn’t even occur online. Blog, word of mouth, it doesn’t matter. Some people are simply a-holes for ruining one of the great aspects of entertainment–surprise. It is completely possible to discuss something–especially an episode that has already aired–without ruining the elements of surprise that await in FUTURE episodes. Perhaps nothing fazes you anymore, you’ve seen it all and are perhaps a little jaded now (your comment’s a little…snarky) and that’s why you don’t care if others’ enjoyment of surprise is ruined. I think you’re in the minority.

      • Jimmy

actually imissianto, i believe YOUR in the minority here. People no coming in here that their will be many others discussing TRUE BLOOD, not just the show but the entire concept and all its characters. By revealing a simple plot point in the books, they have not taken away your priveledge of “surprise” but merely informed of what Charlaine Harris has done with the characters. Ball changes many things about the series and if you really didnt want the surprise ruined, then perhaps you shouldnt be on a blog with so many people talking about a series you dont know everything about.

      • Javabooknut

People spoiled Sixth sense for me too but that’s kind of my fault cause I didn’t make a point of seeing it. What’s the statute of limitations for discussing things. Like many have said, AB doesn’t always follow the books so it doesn’t spoilanything.

    • ErinN

I’ve thought Bill has been nauseating all season. But that is me. I also think Moyer is over acting in way too many scenes. Is that all he can do is growl, scream and shout his lines? He believe he can do better than that.

      • Liz

Couldn’t disagree with you more. But that’s the beauty of the show. We all have our likes and dislikes.

      • psychopomp

i love bill! so i couldn’t disagree more either. i don’t know what you mean by nauseating, i think he has done really well this season.

      • Javabooknut

I loved bill until the 3rd book too. That’s the point. Oh and Spoiler alert – Sookie dates at least 3 other people in the books. oops

    • valleamy3

I agree. The season is too short! The Maryanne thing has been dragged out too much.

  • MovieFanatic

I thought this week’s episode was a real letdown after the last four episodes. One I was shocked at the short running time (46 minutes, really?) and the fact that after Eric has been establishing more and more air time, his abrupt departure was a downer (Sookie’s dream was not the only way Eric could have been included). I’m hoping that the last two episodes ramp the momentum back up to carry us through those cold winter months.

    • A.W

Agreed. If Alan Ball wants to continue to get high viewership numbers he has to use Eric a lot.

      • kyla

I’m going to be honest. I think many of you are so in love the with book Eric that you are totally overlooking the fact that TV Eric is completely creepy (and not especially well acted). Sorry.

      • JoeMc

Kyla, AMEN! I think a lot of people, not all, are viewing show Eric through the lens of book Eric. Which is fine but when someone makes the argument for Bill they say “if you only read the books you would love him so much etc.” A bit hypocritical if you ask me.

      • Javs

I don’t see the “completely creepy” side of TV Eric you’re referring to O.o Powerful, determined, cocky, and very upfront about what he wants, sure. But TV Eric has always known where the line is, or Sookie would have had quite a different experience with the Viking Vampire. ‘Sides, he wants her to “like” him (like = sleep with; there’s that upfrontness). I don’t think that’ll change until further down the road, if it does at all. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

@JoeMc, I think the only reason people keep saying that about Bill is because I believe Alan Ball has indicated he’s staying true to that story line. And it *was* one of those earth shattering, relationship redefining moments ;D

      • Rancid Karma

I think he looks like Jim Carrey had a baby with a cross eyed donkey. Don’t get his appeal.

      • Leigh

Doesn’t do it for me either. I’m just not into blondes and racer-back tanks.

      • Ericpleasebiteme

I’ve NEVER read the books and i’m in love with the TV Show Eric. I also think the actors who play Lafayette and Eric are two of the best of the show.
To me he brings the right amount of creepiness (ripping the guy apart in the basement), humor (“I said I was sorry Pam” after he got the blood in his hair) and sexiness, heck the actor is hot.
As they say different strokes for different folks.

      • Cris

I thought they should have showed Eric reacting when Maryann attacked Sookie, since last week they made such a huge deal over Eric & Sookie now being “part of each other.” He should have felt her fear (like Bill does when he isn’t with her).

      • Shane

I think Eric is great in the books and I love him in the show, except I think AB is trying to make the audience not like him and root for Bill

      • Barbara Catron

I disagree. Yes I have read the books and I think Eric in the series is great. He is playing his part just like he was written. Bill, on the other hand…less said the better.

      • JoeMc

I’m not discussing whether what he does causes him and Sookie to break up. I’m discussing the fact that when I say I like Bill people say “if you only read the books, you wouldn’t.” Well I’ve only watched the TV show and I love Bill. You all love Eric no matter what he does. Well that’s the case for Bill. I don’t care about the S/E or S/B but I get highly annoyed when people try to sway me from liking a character and they bring up points that haven’t been shown in the show.

    • bh

Wow, couldn’t disagree with you more!! TV Eric is so well acted! He brings fire and nuance to every show he is in and he makes the episodes so much better to watch! Book Eric is awesome too and there are some differences, but Alexander S. plays him very well. In season one, I got why everyone loved Bill. Then I read the books and I like the TV Bill sooo much better then book Bill. But this season TV just plain sucks! He is boring, whiney, sullen and frankly a huge downer.Keep the momemtum going and give us more Eric time!

      • Javabooknut

I actually think Alex S. and AB have fleshed out Eric perfectly in a way that fits book eric perfectly. And I actually liked Bill last season despite knowing the future of the books but I agree that he’s over acting. Did anyone see how stupid he looked when he asked Eric if he got his point after he hit him. I was like what is wrong with his face? I don’t like some of Bill’s actions in the book but I liked bill and you also learn to understand him in the later books. But Moyer is losing me. He’s a wet blanket and it’s not all in the script. He’s supposed to be brooding but give me a break. I’m not team anyone though I do love how eric develops in the books. I also love how Bill develops. But dry off man.

      • JosiahLems

Disagree. He might be losing you – and frankly judging by your comments I don’t think he ever had you – but he’s gotten me hook line and sinker. To each his own.

  • Lance

Bill hasn’t live *that* long. He was human during the civil war, so in Vampire terms, he’s still relatively young and wouldn’t know as much as say Eric or Godric.

    • dee

I agree Bill is a young vampire, Thats why Eric should have been more involved in this episode concerning finding out what Maryanne is supposed to be all about…I love seeing Jessica and Hoyt their relationship is so sweet and sexy at the same time…I also think Lafayette is so great! I think they overdid Tara and Eggs relationship and tonite was super good, I think it was better than some of the other episodes, At any rate I think True Blood has gotten better and better I hate there is only 2 more nights of it left its the best thing on TV right now hands down!

      • Jenna

Yes, but Bill is too much of a toddler vampire (temper tantrum) to got to Eric for help. hence the reason he went to the Queen. BTW, I am sure that will piss Eric off. I think Eric should just punish Bill by telling him he needs to stay away from sookie for two weeks, no phones, no texts, nothing. And the best part, is Bill would actually have to do it ::grins::

    • Amy Leigh

I agree. Ken Tucker seems to be under this impression that Bill is a very old, all-knowing vampire. He’s not even 200 years old yet. In the books, Eric knew right away what had clawed Sookie but on the show he wasn’t sure what had done it. I’m sure if he meets Maryanne he’ll know what she is.

      • JoeMc

Bill knows what Maryanne is (when he heard Sookie say the chant). He just doesn’t know how to defeat her.

  • brian

Its seems to me that for the past few episodes have been getting shorter and shorter.I wish they would just off mary ann all ready, the writers have dragged the whole mary ann story lines out for way to long,i know there is only 2 episodes left but come on.The whole andy holding a tree limb making it look like horns was pretty funny. And sam will have to tell them that he is a shifter.Cant wait till they bring the werewolves, witch’s,and fairys, into the mix

  • marco

I’m soo mad! I can’t belive they cut the episode 15 min. short. It was a great episode but I wanted to see more and it’s frustrating that we only got 45 min! Alan Ball your killing me!

  • MadRosey

Well, we book readers don’t have anymore answers than you do. Alan Ball is keeping all of us at the edge of our seats. That’s fine with me: I enjoyed the books but am really enjoying the series as well. The acting and writing are wonderful. Tonight was a combination of disgusting and hilarious and surprising. I love how Ball is using his entire bench so that characters like Hoyt and Terry get a chance to share the action. I was frustrated with briefness of tonight’s episode–I think we’re being strung along for the finale. I can’t wait and I dread it, too.

  • SAS

I knew after “I Will Rise Up” that this week would be a letdown, but I didn’t estimate how much. All week I was waiting to see how Sookie consoled Eric and all we get is a 2 min. dream? So she never went to him at all? What were they thinking. I’ve always hated the MaryAnne story arc and can’t wait til it’s over.

    • Amy Leigh

I was wondering if maybe Sookie’s dream about Eric was what she wished would’ve happened after Godric met the sun. Sookie let out a gasp when the door to Eric’s room was open so in reality he was probably already sleeping or holed up in his room. I love that her dreams about him are more romantic than anything else.

    • Rachel agrees

Seems to me that everyone who hates the Maryanne storyline, only does so because they want MORE LOVE story parts of the show. Like Good EP said: Leave it to the TWILIGHT audience!! I enjoy the creepiness she brings

      • Amy Leigh

I know that I don’t dislike the Maryanne storyline b/c I want more love story. I just think that it’s been dragged out for an entire season and not very much has been done with it. We’ve seen a few orgies (yay?), she’s tried to kill Sam, she had Eggs kill Daphne and that other lady, she scratched Sookie, she’s a maenad. All that info is great, but drop some clues as to what the hell she’s doing in Bon Temps. Why does she want Sam? What’s the big deal with Tara and Eggs? The audience should be clued in at this point on at least one of those questions and waiting for the “heroes” to take out the “big bad”.

      • Liz

Frankly I was bored with them in Dallas. Save for Godric’s death scene – which was beautiful – I was over Dallas. I think it would have been a hell of a lot more interesting if they were in Bon Temps and we would have gotten more info on Maryanne. But I understand the point of Dallas was to flesh out Eric so I dealt with it. But other than fleshing out his character it was a waste.

      • Jello

I’m not just sick of Marryann so they get to the love story either. I feel like i’ve seen enough of the possessed people to understand they are possessed. I mean come on, how many times do we really need to see the same scene of everyone having an orgy? I get that it’s HBO but come on!

      • Jennifer

@Amy Leigh- I love your “big bad” reference.

    • RomeIsBurning

Michelle Forbes is a great actress but her storyline should have been wrapped up far sooner! And Eggs has overstayed his under-acted welcome – I don’t even CARE what his story is! And his fabulous abs are outdone by his underbite and peanut-sized head. Lastly, although I DON’T prefer Blondes, Eric’s far more appealing in his racer-back t-shirts than way-too-old-for-Sookie Bill with those awful sideburns. He may be a good actor but here, all he does is look ‘blank’ or sneer. I really don’t see what Sookie or Anna Paquin sees in him!

  • Christy

My husband and I were yelling at the screen tonight when it was over! Short episodes…blah! Great one-liners…”It’s all right Tara, this is the one time you need to listen to a white man…” something along that line. Andy…”This is going to be my last drink!” Fun fun…can’t wait till next week!

    • Domino

Cool Christy I thought I was the only who loved that “white man” line.

      • Javabooknut

I think my favorite line was “Me and Jesus agreed to see other people but that doesn’t mean we don’t talk from time to time” Mostly because of his facial expressions. It’s a great way to put it.

  • Tam

I’m with you Brian, I can’t wait to see Alcide Herveaux!!! Also since Maryann’s character didn’t last that long in the book, who the heck thought it would be a good idea to extend her life on tv!!!!! Lafayette and Jessica are my fav characters and wish they would get more airplay. I am tired of Bill and his lack of authority because he cant do jack about anything because he is simply an underling in Eric’s area….and I hope Sookie’s dream comes to life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Samantha

There better be some good casting when it comes to Alcide. I don’t like how he turned out necessarily but he was great in the 3rd book.

      • Rumors

I heard rumors of Vin Disel as one of the future male parts…

      • cjscott

Someone had suggested Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and I thought that was a pretty good suggestion! Alcide is my favorite character, so I can’t wait to see who they get to play him!

      • Jax

I would guess that the vin disel character would be quinn the were tiger, but I think they could do better than vin. and yes jeffrey dean morgan would make a great Alcide. I am huge fan of the books, but I really enoy the twist AB has put on it.

      • mo

I know! I can’t wait to see Alcide! But I was a little disappointed with how things worked out in the books…I guess she had to keep things open so we could have more Eric :)

    • mel

I think I am the only person who loves the bill/sookie storyline…and I have read the books up to 5 so far…while i think eric is gorgeous, i can’t get past him. GO bill and Sookie!!!

      • Korie

You aren’t the only person who loves the bill/sookie storyline. I can’t wait to find out what happens with Lorena, she is so not done with Bill and the woman is psycho. That love triangle (such as it is) is so much more interesting than Eric/Bill/Sookie

      • ME

You should keep reading the books. I’m on the 9th one right now and Eric is my choice…even though Bill is starting to come back into play. Sookie is in the middle of three guys right now, so it’s hard to say which she will end up with. The 3rd guy’s name is Quinn…but I won’t spoil anything.

      • Javabooknut

I fell in love with Eric in book 4. But whatever.

      • Southern Belle

I so agree with you about Bill and Sookie. Of course, I understand the whole “Southern Gentlemen” thing yet he still has to “take care of busiess” by going away from time to time. Give him a break…after all he is only 200 years old and Eric is a freaking Viking for goodness sake…Vikings were mean! BTW, I am still mad about Eric reporting to the Tribunal about Bill killing Longshadow. Eric (and Pam) could have just kept their mouth shut and no one would know but, NOOO, he had to try to get Bill locked in that coffin for 3 years.

    • Tarc

Actually, I thought the expansion of the maenad storyline has been fantastic – particularly with Michelle Forbes in the driver’s seat. There is ALWAYS going to be new b-plots going on for the TV show because: 1) it can’t be Sookie Sookie Sookie all the time (for practical reasons), and 2) you’re paying a large cast that needs airtime and character development. Ball & his team are doing a *fantastic* job. I can’t wait until Sunday nights!

    • bh

Bill is just Eric’s underling! So why does he get to hit Eric and disrespect him and order Eric to leave Sookie alone? Shouldn’t Eric get to punish him? Or is that just more of AB’s Bill kool-aid. I think AB wants everyone to like Bill better than Eric and thats why Eric get villianized on the show. But Alexander plays him so well that people like Eric anyway!

      • AaronMallsy

Dude, are you kidding me? Bill has been sidelined for a majority of the season, so they could flesh out Eric’s character better. I get that you like Eric but you’re making things up. That crying scene on the roof was written by the True Blood writers to make Eric look bad and Bill look good. Right? Um yeah. As for hitting him, are you kidding me? What’s Eric’s punishment for having Laff sell V? HMMM? I’m just mentioning all of this because you clearly like Eric and Alex and I don’t blame you. But you’re clearly biased.

    • Javabooknut

Too Bad Eric Bana is too big a star for this show cause he would be PERFECT for Alcide. Oh and I still think Billy Zane should be Quinn. And Natalie Portman would be a great Maria Starr.

      • imissianto

That is so weird…I was just thinking that Billy Zane was the right man for that job. Not too sure about Bana, though–he seems maybe just a tad too soft, facially. As if either of them would be on this show, right? Ha ha.

      • Javabooknut

Yeah they wouldn’t be. But picture bana with a beard and that beautiful mane of hair he had in Munich. Yum! Alcide all the way. Zane is not such a huge star. You never know. And by the time Quinn would be in the show hopefully it will be able to court people of his caliber.

      • Hollister58

Billy Zane was on a few episodes of Samantha Who? – so he does TV.

  • Lora

This episode was terrible compared to last week’s. I expected better. The first couple of minutes were like a good episode and then it went into something like Gilligan’s Island with Jason as Gilligan, Andy as the Captain and Sam as the professor.

    • Jennifer

This was the first episode that my boyfriend agreed to watch with me and it did nothing to help me convince him that this is a great show. It was just a little too kooky, even for a fan.
