You knew we were headed into Creepy Crazyville when, in the opening moments of Octomom, Nadya Suleman was bringing home the first two of her octuplets and she’s told paparazzi are closing in on her car. What does she do after covering the babies with a blanket? She puts on make-up for the photographers she’s “avoiding.”
Brrrr. Octomom: The Incredible Unseen Footage was a repulsively grim two hours. I hope for your sake you were watching Top Chef instead. If it wasn’t my job, I wouldn’t have lasted into the second Octomom hour, when Suleman tells the camera crew that seems to be living with her that she believes her house is “haunted” and that she has to get a “Bible for every room in the house.”
No, that makes her sound more sane than she came off here. This Fox special played the audio of a 911 call she makes in hysterics, claiming one of her children is missing. She’s screeching, “This isn’t happening!” (a favorite Nadya refrain — we heard it over and over, as though she was admitting she lives in a fantasy-world) and “Oh, God, please help me!” An onscreen caption reveals that the “missing” child had gone for a brief walk with one of Nadya’s nannies.
We saw Nadya fighting with her mother, who by comparison is a pillar of common sense and generosity, who cared for Suleman’s original six kids while Nadya had her octuplets. But what does Nadya say about her mother? “She never showed me love.” Observes Mom: “A lot of these issues are in her mind.” (It’s never explained how Nadya got the money for the house she moves into after leaving her mother’s house. Or how she pays for the nannies that are present, Nadya says, “twenty-four/seven.”)
For two hours, we watched one miserable child after another crying, moaning, screeching, and (of the ones old enough to do so) throwing temper tantrums. Octomom (a word trademarked by Nadya, we were informed) was edited to make Suleman’s life look like a ceaseless hell of chaos. The special culminated in footage in the octo-delivery-room, mostly just film of the backs of doctors and nurses, the occasional glimpse of a newborn baby being handed off, and audio of various hospital personnel trying to get the woman operating the camera to move the hell out of the way.
But of course, Nadya had given this camera-person permission to film. Everything.
I admit I came to this show thinking Suleman was probably just overly maternal and eccentric. Silly me, I know. Even if you think the production company misled Suleman and cobbled together the worst moments to make her look like a dreadfully selfish, misguided person, the two hours had enough unforgivable moments of unhappy-looking children to make you lose any sympathy for Octomom.
Those poor 14 kids. Did you watch? What did you think?

sooo sad!!!!
I can’t help but feel sorry for ALL of them.
maddie ur right it is so sad, but whats even sadder is the thought of her being on the 6 oclock news for having snapped an hurting these children,i think the lady is a walking time bomb, she needs a dr in her face not a tv camera!!
Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon was the Original Octomom!!!!!
Mmmm, Mint Julip…..
I was starting to accept that Nadia was just a misguided Mom, until she started explaining that her home has spirits and they have seen spirit figures in the security cameras. Nadia will need more help than the nannies can give. She really does love all her children and realizes she harmed the older 6 by having the 8. But like she said, now she just has to do her best for all the children. Nadia, May the Lord guide you.
how do you know she “really does love all her children?” for all you know, she could have had them for the paycheck and the attention (which seems more likely with the evidence at hand).
Since I was able to watch the last episode of The Nine instead (thanks DirecTV!), I skipped this inevitable trainwreck. Thanks Ken for sparing us of that travesty with your recap.
The only people I really feel sympathy for are the kids.
honestly what next? absolutely revolting
I wish to god there was some way to erase this woman off the face of the earth. She actually called Kate Gosselin (who I don’t like, either) attention-seeking, as if she isn’t doing all of this for money and fame–and that includes her insane plastic surgery. She disgusts me.
West coast. I can’t bring myself to watch. Thanks for the review though.
ditto
I watched 1 hour of this crazieness and that was enough for me, dont see much good in that home environment for the kids, ofcourse there is no one on one for any of the children, grandma seems to be the only sane one!
I watched it on and off.
What I found really disturbing was the way she was treating her Mom, you’re right Ken, her Mom does seem like the only one in the whole situation that has her head screwed on properly. Something else that bothered me was the story Nayda was telling about when she was about 16 or 17 and she locked her Mom in the trunk of her car after her Mom got sprayed by a skunk and Nayda refused to get in the car with her because she smelled bad. Nayda told the Mom to get in the trunk then locked her in there and drove crazy all the way home and found it “so funny” to hear her Mom screaming a rolling around in the trunk.
This lady is not fit to look after a golf fish. I’m appalled. Does anyone know why they allowed a single mother with 6 children to have further IVF? IS the Dr. in trouble?
Good point about the Dr. What world does he/she liv e in. Obviously this was a cash deal. Where does this idiot get her money from. Her and the Dr. should be examined and the Dr. should never be allowed to practice medine in the USA again. This woman was young, and from what I can tell physically healthy, and she has 6 kids at home and she was a single parent. Where was IVF indicated as a legitimate medical procedure here. I thought IVF was for couples who could not get pregnant any other way.
David, I don’t know what he/she was thinking, really the fact that Naydas had six children already and was a student should have made her ineligible for IVF (or fertility treatment). I think IVF/fertility. treatment should be regulated to prevent this happening again.
I agree. The Infertility clinics need to be monitored. There needs to be a limit of embryos implanted. In the case of Kate and Jon Gosselin, there wasn’t IVF, and but the clinic did a crappy job of identifying how many eggs Kate had and should have advised her to wait a month until she had less eggs.
Fully agree about IVF needing to be regulated. My wife and I went through it because there was literally zero chance of our having a child otherwise. We hit the jackpot by having the single best little girl ever…
But, going through it, there was really no screening or regulation other than to check to see if we had the money to do it.
The clinic we went through was highly professional, but I had to question the lack of screening. No questions about homelife, other children or planning.
Ok this woman got her money from a injury she claimed she recvd at work. Then on the way to dr apt she crashes and cashed in on that too. she recvd approx. $167,000. which then was used for the IVF. 2 at least are autistic (the previous 6)so she recvd money from the state of CA to “care for them” but she used that money too. She now claims they are not receiving any welfare anymore. That is one reason the people of California are disgusted with her because they are/were footing all her bills because she dosent work etc.
Her mom housed her for free and her 6 other kids. Then the 8 others came and she’s now cashing in on them, dumps “her mother” and you see the rest. money hungry birthmother not a “Mom”. She pays nannies to take of kids while she plays the camera. And the sad part is people are paying her tons of money to do so. I refused to watch this and hope the rest of u do so also.
I would like to know where she got the money for the IVF…that costs tens of thousands of dollars…someone is bankrolling her.
She got a payout from a injury, I think it was about $160,000.
Golf fish?
To be fair, golf fish do take a lot of work to care for. :>
Golf fish are harder to flush.
yeah they are white and round with lots of dimples, lots of people will tell you they just LOVE the water…
Golf fish are very rare…..so lots of work involved
I happened to “tune in” when she was talking about locking her mother in the trunk. I was sickened at how she laughed about her own mother rolling around in the car. What type of daughter would do that to her own mother….makes you wonder what she would do to her own kids….when the camera’s not rolling.
You have to wonder what mom would actually get in the trunk of her car because her daughter demanded it? I didn’t watch the show, so I’m only going by the comments here, but even if her mom is the most sane of the bunch, it doesn’t sound to me like that’s really saying much. This family is tragic.
I was appalled at the whole thing. The laughing abour her mother’s body rolling around in the back was chilling to say the least. VERY, VERY DISTURBING. Shows a complete lack of judgement. But then we already knew this…..
I agree with Jillz – what was Mom thinking to actually climb in the trunk…looks like more than one misssing screw here.
She is awful…those lips… eewwwww gross. Did you see the kids hitting her? and they learned that where? WHERE’S CPS
already!!!
Thank you for bringing this up! I got online this morning looking for something from others finding that disturbing as I did. After hearing the story of her mother in the trunk made me wonder about her mental health.
While I personally agree Nadia and her doctor acted irresponsibly and that this woman is insane, the only thing the Dr can legally be held at fault for is implanting too many embryos at once. It is my understanding no more than 2-4 are to be implanted in a treatment to see if they take. If he is not under investigation for this alone I would be very saddened. If a lawyer they can prove the Nadia was mentally unsound at the time of the IVF then could also maybe hold the Dr accountable for doing the treatment anyway. While the other factors, already having 6 children, being unemployed, having no other financial support are disturbing they are not a legal reason to deny anyone from having children either through IVF or any other fertility treatment. However, since she does seem so mentally unbalanced and has thrown herself into the public spotlight for all to see, it is disturbing that Child Protective Services has not intervened to do a thorough evaluation since the children have been born.
OMG. I am still not sure how I feel after I saw that show. That woman is crazy. The story she told of her mother in the trunk was so disturbing that I am at a lost for words. She is so stupid that she can’t see how much her mother loves her. Mark my words, those kids will be taken from her eventually. She is not fit to watch watch a tree yet alone 14 kids.
Makes you wonder now if this is why Gloria Allred (or whatever) called for CPS. Still, the california foster care system is terrible, you can’t get out until you are 18 and there’s tons of issues there. The bottom line should be regulations for screening IVF, her life looks like hell, and that means those kids lives are probably hell. Lets all hope she manages.
OMG, I forgot about the trunk incident, that another thing that supports my argument about her mental instability. Whom ever that doctor was that allowed her to keep getting the IVF should have their liscensed suspended and the government should allow so many embryos period.
“Does anyone know why they allowed a single mother with 6 children to have further IVF?”
Guess the Bureau of Child Rearing Permission messed up, genius.
um, no genius, that fictitious bureau is not the issue, it’s medical ethics, which do exist and are reviewed. Breeching them can lose an M.D. his or her license. There has been much debate about the ethics of the doctor in this instance, and why he would impregnate a mentally unstable woman with SIX children she couldn’t support with EIGHT embryos, a number that puts the health and lives of the mother and all the embryos at risk.
yes but the furor over octomom has all but died down and no one has heard of any consequences for the doctor still. the media moved on, and this could still happen again apparently.
Well Ken, I’m glad I don’t work for EW and forced to watch this. Wait… I’m not glad I don’t work for EW!!! Please! I’ll watch anything!
Bahahaha. Ditto!
Me too–but I was smart and watched Top Chef instead (and fell asleep–d’oh)!
Top Chef was on ah nuts I missed it
I would consider watching this show…if she and her many children lived in a shoe…
LOL!!!!
I think your assessment is spot-on. I forced myself through it, but that’s the last time I’ll view any program devoted to her. What I found heart-wrenching was the behaviour of the older children, especially the three oldest. The way they reacted to cameras, to Nadya’s very brief attempts to connect with them, the defiance and obvious loneliness, anger and frustration they felt just made my chest ache, and made me want to slap their mother into next week.
No matter what the reaction to this program, I think she will add this to her “Poor Misunderstood and Persecuted Me” whining litany to the press. Perhaps this program will inevitably lead to the children getting better, and individualized care. Nadya can just go to h***.
Amen
I totally agree Allison. I refused to watch it knowing that by the end of the show I would be on a soap box trying to get ALL of the children removed from her care. What kind of life will any of them really have?
I 100 % agree, these kids cannot feel any love at all. If in fact she did “love” her children she would allow families that want children desperately and cannot have them to adopt. Oh wait a min. if she did what was best for her kids then she couldn’t make money off of them and live in the spotlight. Guess we know where her priorities are. The woman is a nut case and cares only for herself. Someone please get child protection involved before the kids get locked in a trunk, or worse.
I wouldn’t mind standing in line to b*&ch slap her into next week either, along with the doctor who did the IVF the second time..she has basically destroyed 14 lives because none of those children will be productive members of society…what a sad commentary on our society
I certainly wouldn’t assume that none of her children will be able to overcome this. They clearly have huge hurdles to leap, but people have overcome worse. Let’s not discount their whole lives right now.
I completely agree and am surprised no one brought this up sooner. I am just totally disgusted how she attempts to pretend she is disciplining the children and then goes back to the cameras. Um, hello. She needs to focus on the children and teaching them right from wrong and how to behave, but that will probably never happen because there are so many lousy parents out there and she is just one of many.
I watched and am still in shock. I do not know how anyone could want to have that big of a family and be a single mother. If she was any kind of a good person she would know that it is pretty much impossible for those poor children to grow up having a normal life when they dont have a father and cant even have any time to themselves with their mother. All the screaming and crying was horrible. They seem so unhappy and dont even know what to do with themselves. The mother obviously has her hands full as you could see she cant keep up with them at all and children need to be loved and cared for and if you have that many young kids in one family it is hard for those kids to get that love and caring they deserve because all of their mothers attention needs to be focused on those babies. Like the little boy who was hitting her and calling her a B**ch. He is not getting the quality time he needs right now and is not being disciplined and therefore may grow up to constantly have problems and be disrespectful. Those children have to feel neglected. How could they not. I dont know I am so boggled by this I dont even know if I am making sense. There is so much to be said about this topic. I also do not understand how anyone would allow her to keep her children. It is clear that she cannot give them what they deserve when she has no job, and is a single mother with 14 young kids. This world sometimes amazes me.
Brookelynn.. you could not have said it any better! I watched the show and even though it was an accurate portrayal of chaos based on the circumstances, I felt sickened by the end of the show. As a a former employee of a company that was mandated to report neglect of children, I am shocked that she is allowed to keep these kids. She can not meet all their needs period. No matter how much she loves them. I was deeply saddened by the behavior of her kids who are crying out so desperatley for attention. They need intervention and I hope and pray they get the help they so desperately need. Media that takes such an interest in her and her kids should be advocates for her kids and their best interests.
Right on!
THANK YOU! – I only caught about 10 mintues of this program – which was MORE than enough for me. But seeing the 2 YEAR OLD call his mother a Bitch!?!?!?! Where did that come from? He has to learn the word from somewhere, and that fact that it was the only thing he was saying (inbetween smacking people and kicking his siblings.) Even with all the “help” there is NO way these kids can properly be cared for. I also managed to see the part where she was trashing Kate Gosslin basically calling her a media whore (summary) and saying she wouldn’t do that.. I am sorry Nadia? Are you not having your own TV special, and signed on to do more?? What a hypocrite. I am ashamed I even watched those 10 minutes. This woman is disgusting.
Kate Gosselin may be neurotic, but she is clearly a mother who provides for the basic needs of her children, along with love, discipline, etc. She may be neurotic and make some questionable choices when it comes to media coverage, but she’s a fit mother – something Nadya Suleman is not.
Wow give her some credit. I didn’t think she was a bad mother at all. She realized what she has done and shes making the best of it. She looks like she really loves her children. And she believes in ghosts so you guys all of a sudden think she needs help? Ahh whatever not trying to offend anyone but thats my opinion. I like octomom, may God bless her .
what about what she did to her mother in the trunk of her car, locking her in, laughing at her rolling around screaming in fear.
anonymous, how can you look past that.
You feel so strongly that you have to submit that ridiculous opinion under anon?!?!? You’re obviously as disturbed as that bag of crazy!
Anonymous, you probably feel this way because you, like Octomom, are accustomed to being taken care of. Nothing wrong with being into ghosts, but there is something wrong with irresponsibility.
Sooner than later, though, there won’t be a gravy train!
I did not watch, but it doesn’t take a genius to realize that, coupled with her obvious (who knows to what degree, though) mental instability, she has never considered herself obligated to take accountability for her own actions. Why not keep having children? She is obviously somewhat addicted to pregnancy, if that’s possible. My guess is that she receives substantial attention while pregnant, which would explain the repeated inseminations. I really do feel, however, that at this point, to try to salvage what they can of these poor children’s psyches, the state of California is going to have to take them away and get this woman treatment. It’s just downright disturbing, and I think a lot of us are even losing interest in badmouthing her, as it’s so clear that she’s a pitiful, disturbed woman.
If you think the children are being mistreated now, you really don’t want them to go to foster care in th State of California. They would, with a 99% chance, be abused either physically, emotionally, or sexually. Most likely all three.
The care of a mother that loves them no matter how misguided she is, will always be preferable to strangers taking care of them for the pittance they get from the State. There are few good foster parents but those are about 10% of them. Then there is the fact they would be split up. If she can see fit to give up the babies for adoption that would be most practical option but I doubt she would.
/end rant.
It’s not too late for the babies to be adopted. It will never happen because they’ve become Nadia’s source of income. I watched the show for a few minutes. I can’t stand to look at Nadia’s stupid plastic surgery. Poor babies.
@Jan
There’s one thing I cannot stand, and that is when people make up percentages. Please stop.
@Natalie: I have a lot of experience with the California foster care system and the sad thing is that the 10% figure (white admittedly made up) is probably not very far off base. Many people use the foster care system as a means for support – for the foster parents.
if she got the credit she deserved, she would be in a sanatarium. anyone who thinks it is funny to treat her mom so badly, doesn’t need to have children. I don’t think the ghost thing is that crazy, each to his own opinion, but the kids don’t need to fear ghost
Where ever she gets her income..is keeping Social Services at bay. That is clear. She is mentally a mess. The kids are doomed to be the same. I wish I had the power to shut down the cameras and treat this woman like anyother…insane person with children. Put those kids first. Next she will be killing them off and call it post partum depression. This is a badly written soap opera. I do not watch , because reading about makes me livid.:(
Give her credit?! For screwing up 14 lives?! Only someone who is as loony as Octomom herself could think that. Get some help.
Not a bad mother, seriously???!!!??? She doesn’t know the first thing about having children. Not to defend Jon & Kate plus 8 but look at the difference in their children’s behavior. The way our kids behave is a direct result of our parenting skills and this woman needs soooooo much more than Nanny 911!!!
Kate may have her OCD issues but she is a far superior mother to her children than this trainwreck.
“Give her some credit?”
ROTFLMAOPIMP!!!
I think that the people of the state of California have given her far too much credit, considering she used welfare payments to help pay for the last eight kids…
I’m assuming you have a career in stand-up comedy?
Anonymous = Nadia
I was watching paint dry. Then I saw your hideous face so I stopped to post. Ken you bloh
I watched Top Chef. I would like to know who the sponsors of this show were so I can send off nasty-grams. Fox PTB should be ashamed of themselves for showing this.
I forced my self through it, only to find out that she is probably the most unfit “parent”(if you can even call her that) that I’ve ever seen. In one of the scenes, she was holding one of the infants in improper position, and infant vomited something while being taped. She never bothered to look at the infant or bothered to correct way she was holding the poor child.
She’s an absolutely horrible Mother. The kids are unhappy, and out of control. Although I’m not a fan of any reality show featuring kids, atleast The Gosselin kids are loved and well behaved. Octo’s kids are clearly in dire need of attention, love, and some structure in their lives. Those children need help, octo is beyond distrubing: she is very possibly a psycopath, certainly not fit to be a Mother at a minimum. Please CPS, do your job. Intervene!
This woman is committing child abuse. Infants and children need constant affection and bonding- not laying on a bed screaming with a parent just present. This lady is INSANE, and mostly SELFISH.
