By far the most engaging new TV-series creator at the Televisions Critics Association press tour thus far is Liz Tigelaar. Her CW show, Life Unexpected, won’t reach the air til midseason, but it’s bound to capture the hearts and minds of any of you that liked the CW’s Privileged and, before that, Gilmore Girls.
Tigelaar was one of the few producers at the press tour who seemed genuinely overjoyed at getting her creation onto the air — she radiated both intelligence and enthusiasm for her show. It’s about about a teenager, Lux (Britt Robertson), who was abandoned at birth and reconnects with her birth parents, played by Roswell‘s Shiri Appleby and Mad Men‘s Kristoffer Polaha, who are no longer a couple but agree to assume parenting responsibilities when Lux reenters their lives.
Tigelaar was disarmingly frank about how pleased she was to be at the CW, even if it means competing for attention on a schedule with hipper, glammier shows like the new Melrose Place and The Beautiful Life, and having to shoot her Oregon-set series in Vancouver. “If it wasn’t for this show, I’d be home in bed eating Doritos, so I’m glad to be shooting anywhere,” Tigelaar told reporters.
As a writer and producer, Tigelaar has worked on Brothers & Sisters, American Dreams, and the great Once & Again. Let’s hope her concept of Life Unexpected reaches the screen the way she envisions it (the pilot episode is completely charming), and that its life is unexpectedly long.

who is kerr smiths character supposed to be
The radio partner and boyfriend of Shiri’s character
That was most first thought!!! I loved him on Dawson’s Creek:)
Why is Shiri playing a teens mom? She’s only like 30.
Well her character got pregnant when she was teen so it makes sense
So excited about the show! Looking forward to watching Britt Robertson each week!
I don’t believe I’ve seen Britt Robertson in anything else in the past, but she really is a beautiful girl. How old is she, in real life?
I really hope the show will do well although to be realistic with the current state of the CW, i don’t expect too much but I’m open for a surprise
Whoa, just last night I was watching Law and Order Criminal Intent for the first time in forever (yes, it’s still on!) and Robertson was a guest star. She was really outstanding in her general Cute Girl in Trouble role. Awesome that she got a show.
This show sounds really promising, and I’m so glad to see Kerr Smith again! I couldn’t figure out where I knew Kristoffer Polaha from, but after checking Imdb, I realized it’s from the short-lived Miss Guided with Judy Greer (which I loved). I’m a big Gilmore and Privileged fan, so I’ll definitely be watching.
I can’t wait to see Life uneXpected. the cast and name fasanite me.
I’d be much more likely to watch a show if the main character doesn’t have a stupid name like “Lux.” It’s a symptom of a systemic problem.
What a silly comment! You only watch shows and read books based on the characters names??? I happen to love that name, I loved in the movie The Virgin Suicides and I love it on my daughters birth certificate.
As an adoptee that has found both of her birthparents, I can’t wait to see the show
This show is going to be awesome. Check out Kristoffer Polaha’s fan page on Facebook!!
I’m so excited! I just hope the CW doesn’t put it in bad time slots. Finally, a good show on CW!
Lux is a really lame name for the main character.
Lux is a bad name for the main character.
Again…why the hatin’ on the name?? Why does that matter? It’s the story that matters….
This show looks like a throwback to the great WB shows I loved! This definitely feels more on side of Gilmore Girls and Everwood than Gossip Girl which is a big plus in book! And Lux is a little bit of a silly name but maybe it’s a nickname…?
I DON’T GET IT…WHY IS IT SILLY PEOPLE???
Lux:
English unisex name derived from the Latin word lux, meaning light.
(maybe I’m taking this too personal…ha ha ha)
I absolutely LOVED Gilmore Girls, and was devastated when it ended. I happened to catch the show last week, and was totally engaged. I think it will be a success. I’m enjoying what I’ve seen thus far!
