This week, True Blood was all about making connections. While still in the Dallas vampire hotel (the episode took up right where last week’s left off), Sookie connected with another telepath, bellboy Barry, who is impressively terrified of the local, murderous strain of vamps and hides his power from them. Sam and Daphne connected by sharing their knowledge of each other as shape-shifters, and would later connect in another, deeper way. Tara, who tried to disconnect from Maryann, found it impossible to do so, thanks to the latter’s heebie-jeebie, mind-controlling powers. (And for what follows, here’s your spoiler alert.)
Jason, still in Fellowship of the Sun boot camp, made a connection of the flesh with Sarah Newlin, who surprised Jason in the bathtub with a little under-the-bubbles hand-love. We knew Sarah was attracted to Jason, but now it’s clear that part of her affection is inspired by annoyance with hubby Steve, who condescends to her and who wanted to show Jason his own comradely friendship by revealing the church’s vast storehouse of vampire-killing weaponry. (Liked the silver throwing stars shaped like crosses. And yes, the wooden bullets were mentioned again — who do you think will be the first vamp to take one in the heart?)
But the core of this episode, directed with swift economy by thriller veteran John Dahl (The Last Seduction, Red Rock West), was the showdown in Dallas between (on one side) Bill, Sookie, and Eric and (on the other) Stan and Isabel, “vicious, petty, vile creatures,” in Bill’s description, haughty lieutenants of the missing Godric. Sookie really showed how decisive she’s become, aware of her value to the vampires, by volunteering to infiltrate the church and read minds to find out what the Fellowship knows about Godric. (Wait: doesn’t she know she’s going to encounter Jason?) An important bit of character-history was dropped in here: Godric, we saw in flashback as Evil incarnated as a toothy boy, is Eric’s “maker,” thus Eric’s loyalty to him.
All in all, a very nicely tense yet dreamy episode. I don’t think the lovey-dovey scenes between Sookie and Bill have ever been as lushly romantic, do you? I want to hear what you think: What did you make of a subdued Lafayette asking for his old job back? Where do you think the Dallas trip is headed? And who’s the vampire woman in the final shot?

The vampire lady is Bill’s maker.
Jason told her he was going to a camp run by “Marlboro” Baptist Church (There was a Marlboro poster on the wall behind Sookie).
Sookie and Bill romantic, not quite. They have more of a Bor-ance, a boring romance.
The Vampire at the end is the Queen of Louisiana. Not seen in the books I think until number 4?
This will be good stuff if it’s who I think it is.
The Vamp at the end is the Queen of Louisiana. Not seen in the books til #3 or #4.
Lorena, that vamp at the end of the episode, is Bill’s maker. IIRC, Lorena made her first, and only appears up to tonight’s episode, during one of the first episodes last season.
I thought this was a nice episodes, but didn’t like it as much as the 4 previous ones. Next week looks good.
Yes, Lorena is Bill’s Civil War-era maker (seen last season in period costume)and she was the vampire at the end of the episode.
My question is did Hoyt and Jessica ever get off the phone? Now Bill will know what having a real teenager is like. LOL. A little uneventful but good episode. Sets up a whole lot of things for the rest of the season. PS. The whole time I was saying “NO Tera, NONONONO!! Trust Instincts!!” And Maryanne in Gran’s outfit…she is a manipulative one!
Yeah I loved the episode last week and was kind of bored tonight for this ep.
I know there will be some pretty disgruntled book fans since they changed some big plot points tonight, but I thought it was mad hot.
I like this season well enough, but it does seem to be moving slowwwwwwwly. There are glaciers that move faster then this season’s pace. This is not to say its a bad show, but especially with the Marianne stuff, they could be moving far farrrrr faster.
The vampire queen of Louisiana is going to be played by Evan Rachel Wood and and she is going to show up near the end of the season.
Loved this episode! Can’t wait to see what Lorena has in store for Bill (please let him leave and not come back). Can’t wait until Eric gets shot and Sookie gets to suck the bullet out (can I switch places with her for that please!) And loved Jason and Sam’s dirty lovin’ (not together obviously…but love both storylines). Will someone please get rid of Maryann!!?? I’m over her craziness!
The vamp at the end is not the Queen of Louisiana…she is Bill’s maker, Lorena.
the vamp at the end was Lorena, which is why they showed her in the “previously on True Blood” part of the show.
I don’t think she knows about Jason. She said “Have fun at church camp!” the last time she saw him. I think she just knows he’s going to church camp. Not the exact church he’s getting involved with. If she did know, she wouldn’t be so supportive of Jason going. But I like the direction Sookie’s storyline is going in, and this Fellowship storyline sounds interesting; can’t wait until she is made, because it’s definitely gonna happen. I am so sick of Jason’s fellowship storyline though.
Sookie doesn’t know she’s gonna run into Jason at FOS because he lied to her about the name of the leadership camp he was going to.
the woman in the end is Bill’s maker, she says her blood runs through her body in the scenes from next week, and YESSSS SOOKIES DOESNT KNOW JASON IS WITH THE L.O.D.I, nest week is going to be insane good. and maryanne has incredible powers, everyone being mad at Tara was so funny. another fun moment, was when Jessica tells Bill, DONT BE SURPRISED IS I GET AN EATING DISORDER, hilarious. haha
where can i watch true blood season 2 ep 5 please someone tell me
The woman in the end was Bill’s maker!
She says her blood runs through her body in scenes for next week. It’s going to be fun seeing Sookie realize her brother is in the L.O.D.I.
Maryanne’s powers keep surprising me, seeing her put that spell on Tara and getting everyones angry vibes was hilarious!, So was Jessica’s retort to Bill about…”dont be surprised if i get an eating disorder”
Can’t wait for the two storylines to collide now Sookie is off to FOTS.
Jason is just awesome.
Thanks for reminding me everyone. She was Bill’s maker.
I liked how we learn about Eric’s past. It was well done.
Also tonight’s episode…Sookie and Bill really got on my nerves for some reason.

Love Sookie. She is so hot: http://www.actressscene.com/2009/07/anna-paquin-video-from-true-blood-3.html
They’re definitely amping up the Bill/Sookie luv this season, and I can’t say I mind. They have this endearing combination of sweet and hot going that I just find intoxicating. And I figure it’s the calm before the storm!
This ep had a lot of great stuff, but the writing was less than impressive. I love Isabel, can’t abide Stan, and am thoroughly creeped out by Maryann channeling Gran. At least she has decent taste in books – I love Chelsea Cain!
Thought it was a great episode but i have a problem with one thing – Daphne telling Sam she saw a dog jump in the lake and he popped up in the water…but in that episode they did not show him shift into the dog….
The woman at the end was Bill’s maker and Jason didn’t tell Sookie he was joining the Fellowship for obvious reasons, it’s likely that he’s gonna rescue her tho
The woman at the end was definitely Bill’s maker. That’ll be intriguing.
Jason told Sookie he was going to Bible Camp with some Presbyterian(sp) church, so she doesn’t know about the Fellowship. Some days it bugs me that he does what he knows is totally wrong. Other days I’m amused.
Eric’s flashback was the highlight of the episode for me. I can’t wait to see how that arc unfolds! And Lafayette better be setting up for something amazing. I miss my flamboyant boy who /lived/.
I had looked up Allan Hyde beforehand (did not seem to fit the role) who was said to be playing Godric but I was very pleasantly surprised after I saw the episode. I want the show to stick a little closer to the books, lest it may be cancled (Deadwood, Carnival anyone?) If they keep up the mushy stuff with Sookie and Bill I will quit watchin. I want the Eric factor already!!!! I agree this season is movin much too slow.
I liked it. Eric’s backstory made me refer to one of my books, because I could’ve swore that Godric didn’t sire him, but I was wrong. And I really want to rip out Maryann’s throat.
I really like the romance between Sookie and Bill. I especially enjoy his struggle with the 21st century mores. But I find their love scenes hot. While breaking them up for a short while may bring more tensionto the show, I don’t find the Erik selectedfor the show hot especially since the haircut. The Viking backstory was laughable like a bad B movie. I also enjoy all the various story lines. I would like to see more of Pam.
