Last night on the Late Show, Johnny Depp and David Letterman played a little game of cat-and-mouse: Depp isn’t the gabbiest guy, but Dave respects him and likes his new movie Public Enemies. So Dave let the star get away with brief answers and the claim that he never sees his own movies. (“Once I’ve done my job on the film, it’s really none of my business,” he said.)
Still, Depp was pretty entertaining in unlikely areas. Such as his friendship with Elizabeth Taylor. Whom he called “a liver-and-onions broad.”
Never heard that phrase before, have you? But we know what he means: earthy, unpretentious.
In a double-header of summer-movie stars, Letterman also ushered in Megan Fox:
Saying she’s only had “three crushes in my life: Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien, and you” set Dave up for a perfect response: “What do the other two do?”
I wonder if she’ll use the same line if she Transformer-promotes on The Daily Show and The Tonight Show…
Love Johnny. Funny only had seen Megan Fox in pics before, but when I saw her on ET being interviewed, was stunned that her voice sounded so “unintelligent” if that makes sense, she talked like she’s stupid. I wish my fav mag EW were not in love with her and wouldn’t keep promoting her, she can’t act and she’s only a “body girl” in any movie, thought EW had better taste that that, girls like Megan can be found in any mall around the country, nothing spectacular.
Johnny Depp was AWESOME! I wonder if Dave was having a meta moment – I can imagine it was a little like interviewing himself. Johnny and Dave are alike in the respect that they both like to get in, do their thing then go home. They’re not hollywood scenesters.
Have only just seen this episode in Australia, and I can see why it was 5 years since they last had Johnny Depp on the show. Most actors are innately shy – but this was just painful to watch.

Dave almost had to work OT on Depp, but somehow it worked. He did keep getting little pearls like that Liz Taylor line.
