Letterman comes out joking about Sarah Palin and the 'Fire Dave' rally

Tags: , News

Well, he may have apologized on Monday, but on Tuesday, it was an unbowed David Letterman that strode out to deliver a punchy Late Show monologue.

“I want to get through this quickly so you can get to the ‘Fire Dave’ rally,” he said, referring to the demonstration being held by Gov. Sarah Palin supporters, a gathering that one news source said numbered three dozen, while CNNPolitics.com put the number closer to 15. Wow, what a show of outrage. Do you get the feeling that even the people who are angry at Letterman are beginning to feel it’s time to live and let live?

The theme of the nightly Top 10 List was the “Top 10 Things Overheard at the Fire David Letterman Rally.” It included “When does Cheney arrive with the waterboarding gear?” “Well, it was nice of CBS to provide the catering,” and “Isn’t there always a crowd demanding Letterman be fired?”

Letterman said that Palin had accepted his apology, but that “she’s also accepted a $500 gift certificate from Lenscrafters.”

Now, I’m sure there are those who are going to say this proves Letterman’s apology the night before wasn’t sincere. Me, I was glad to see the old, cranky spark back in his performance. What did you think?

David is such a Jerk, he abuses freedom of speech. Pathetic!
Live and let live? Why doesnt he let the Palins live their life for gods sake.

    • Rigo Cisneros

How do you abuse an absolute freedom?

    • Maria

If she wanted to live her miserable life In peace, she would quit getting in the public eye every chance she gets. You want to be on tv? You want to do interviews? You want to run for office? You want to write a book? Well grow some thick skin and get used to ppl calling you out on ur bs and making fun of your stupidity!

I agree. He puts everyone down he can think of who has done anything worth while. Not just Sarah Palin. He is the worst person on tv. Making money at everyone elses expense. Does he have any room to talk? just because he admitted to his infidelity does not make him a saintl.

What should be investigated is the drugging of Bristol Palins’ child to the point of comatose on television.

If he were only funny. This guy is as tired as last weeks newspaper. Forget Palin that’s just a diversion from the real problem. He’s just worn out with nothing new to offer. Same old, same old.

As a woman, I am far more offended by Sarah Palin than anything David Letterman has ever done or said. I, too, was glad to see his humor and spark on tonight’s show. Personally, I feel that he had nothing to apologize for. He is a comedian, and has never pretended to be anything more. But he is also a sensible person who is known for being fair and charitable. Obviously, he felt a need to apologize and was upset that he had offended people whom he never meant to offend. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Sarah Palin who made a habit out of telling mass audiences that President Obama is different from us and does not see the same America that we see. Palin incited hatred and bigotry over and over in large-scale settings. Where are the apologies for that?

    • Jeff

Were you glad, as a woman, when Don Imus was crucified for being funny?

    • Sue

Right on, Paula. And Jeff, Palin had it coming. And you can bet there’ll be more poking fun at the trashy Palin clan – how can we resist?

  • peacepipe

As this stuff (and Palin, the “first dude,” and their sinful 18 y/o daughter) keeps going around the info media, all I can say is: THANK GOD, over and over again, that McCain/Palin did not win the 2008 presidential election.

  • todd palin

Sarah got so hot after the apology, we made babies all night.

  • tony Cee

The Palins are full of Crap. The daughters are tramps. She needs to try to get them straight.
What about the depiction of obama that was passed around.”We have a negro as president” It’s all polotics

  • DaveTheCreep

I am glad Dave is back to his old way – glorious child molester way! :-)

  • tony Cee

what he said is nothing compared to things that have been said about the president.

  • mario

GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE GO DAVE.
