'Jon and Kate Plus 8' + 'American Chopper' = 'You're sweaty!'

Categories: Television

Jon-and-kate-plus-chopper_l It’s come to this: the only way to get Jon and Kate Gosselin to share a TV scene is to get them involved with other adults they can talk to, because they sure ain’t talking to each other. Thus this week’s TLC cross-promotion with American Chopper. Let’s hear Kate squeal, “You’re sweaty!” when she takes a ride with Paul Senior! Let’s see Jon help build his own boss hog, while Paul Senior yells at him! “Are you paying attention?” Paul hectored Jon. “Are you learning anything?” If you closed your eyes, you’d swear it was the good old days, with Kate badgering Jon.

Ah, but the good old days of Jon and Kate Plus 8 are long gone, as this half hour proved. The kids, needing a male figure in their lives more than ever, were entertained by Chopper-boy Mikey, who brought along his Charlie McCarthy ventriloquist dummy to “talk” to the tykes. A bit later, Jon spoke of “enjoying something on my own, and hanging out with guys and doing guy things.” This man is now virtually begging for a divorce right on camera.

Kate took Mikey to a spa for some hair-washing and a pedicure. Why? Because they had a half hour of television to kill. No other reason than that. It was all perfectly pleasant, affable, and kinda dull. The Chopper guys were good sports. Kate donated her pink bike to the Ronald McDonald House charity, and we were reminded by Jon that, soon after the sextuplets were born, Jon and Kate stayed at a Ronald McDonald House, because they were overwhelmed, not wealthy, and needed some help. But that was back when this series was truly fascinating, and such personal details weren’t the stuff of tabloid scandal, but the kinds of facts that illuminated their simpler lives.

Oh, well. What’s next, to keep the show going on TLC? A very special crossover episode with 18 Kids and Counting, in which the Duggars adopt Jon because his name, like all their other children’s, begins with a “J”?

Did you watch Jon and Kate this week? What did you think?

One of the worst episodes ever. Barely any screentime of the kids. We don’t care about Jon’s stupid bike and Kate’s bonding with Mikey. TLC needs to learn that with the parent’s relationship in the gutter, all we want to see are the kids. Show the kids!

  • skripper

I agree – they are stretching for content, and using the show for an advertising vehicle. Can’t wait for LA Ink to show up to tat up the family.

  • Adam

Did they atleast make something for the kids? A mini-scooter or something.
And by the way, can you imagine how much street cred these guys lost for agreeing to appear on that show lol

Nope – can’t watch it any longer.

Come on you guys! If you would all BACK OFF and let Jon and Kate breath, maybe, just maybe, they might be able to stop long enough to remember just how much they have been through and how much they truly mean to each other! These are two people, who have gotten so overwhelmed by the “Star” life, that they have lost what is truly important, THEM! I say, instead of badgering them, Pray for them! I say, get Doctor Dobson to come on the show as a guest! Then, get Jon and Kate to spend a week ALONE, with Dr. Dobson praying and teaching them about the sanctity of marriage!

I thought the best part of this episode was at the spa with Kate and Mikey. He was asked if he wanted a magazine and replied, “Us Weekly.” Hilarious! Kate thought so too.

I used to be a big fan of the show. Not anymore though. I have so many friends who think just like me. I am sure the show will slowly die and everyone will forget it ever happened. We’ll just be left with the aftertaste.

This show is getting more and more ridiculous. Like watching a wreck. They keep trying to show that they’re still a family, but really all I’m seeing is Jon going through a mid-life crisis. His man-car, the motorcycle, needing space (and leaving Kate to do the birthday party planning and arrangements as well as the NC vacation while he parties in NY). They need to be left alone to sort out their lives.

I fully second the comments of Tammy Heaberline.

All of that land, and she screams at Jon to get the dogs in their kennel because “that’s where dogs belong”, after the dogs dared to get close to them WHILE THEY WERE OUTSIDE. And then Jon prefers to spend time with the dogs over locking them up and spending time with her. I’m liking him more all of the time. I hope he takes the dogs with him when he goes because she won’t look after them. At least he looked like he was enjoying life again while he was with the other guys.
I actually hoped Jon would take off when he was testing the bike and Kate was practically saying she hoped he would leave.
Yeah, this is another “real” day in the life of a “real” family. What a joke.

We wuz robbed! This episode of Jon & Kate merely re-used brief sections from the far superior 90-minute American Chopper episode that premiered a few days ago and also ran tonight. There were so many more cute moments with the kids on Chopper that should have been used here. The Ronald McDonald throwaway was the only footage that hasn’t already run on Chopper.

I think the next reality show crossover should be J&K+8 meets intervention, where they force these fame whores to come to grips with the fact that their addiction to money, fame and press has ruined their family. Then they could send them to “rehab” (i.e. give them lobotomies or make them work in a shelter so they can see people with REAL problems) and hopefully these 2 losers would then grow up, treat each other and their kids right and get some damn priorities.

  • linda

this is crazy. never watched the show but with all the publicity going on (which the “B” seems to love) he looks like the biggest loser i have ever seen and she is the biggest (well you know what i think) and the thing everyone forgets is the children. Please someone take them away from them it is all about money.

  • Joanne

It’s reached the point where all I can say is…..”it’s gotta end!!!!”

  • linda

this is a show about children? Well now some one is playing with a fat guys toes and the MOTHER is there and just talking about how wonder full it is. Someone please call childrens services on the.

  • Kate

Linda – learn how to spell you cow!

I wish that they would focus on the kids more…they are at such a fun age I just want to see them being themselves! Forget all this drama, let’s watch the 8 instead of the Jon and Kate…

  • NTVLand (NTV Land)

They were *GIVEN* from motorcyles, by KEIGHT’S own admission. Nice. And you _wonder_ _why_ they call her Q.F.I. – Queen Freebie Irene (Kate Gosselin’s middle name)!!

  • ebisquera

jon needs to grow up. keeps talking about that he was a father of 8 at 27. you chose to be. if you didn’t want children or the responsibility you shouldn’t of had them. stop talking bad about your wife on tv. someday your children will watch the show and see you calling their mom a black widow.

I am watching the show and I am cringing the whole time as I am watching it. Jon and Kate are so obviously not together (as rumored)…..as a wedding photographer I can sniff love in even its subtler emanations. Yet, they are like two strangers in each others’ presence. Jon is even more pathetic to watch; he had a long face the entire time except the end when he’s chatting up with the guys (From chopper) and trying to be cool mentioning his female friends. He wears these awful shades as if anyone would find them cool.
This particular show is about Jon meeting with the crew from American Chopper and having a custom made bike made for him. I can’t help myself, but I get allergic reactions in my brain when I see people get such pleasure out of their expensive “stuff”…..I . Here is Jon, he does not even look like a biker, he is quiet, shy-ish, total guy-next-door look…and he wants a big burly-man bike. I see this quite often…men get older and start to feel empty and fill their lap with “things”, younger women….so sad…
I gotta say, I have never been attracted to men with “stuff”. Stuff has never been a big draw to any man..
The news briefs tout her as some sort of control freak, who yells at Jon all the time. I feel perhaps more of the blame should come his way. Any man (or woman) that allows anyone to speak to him in a bossy manner 24/7 and never stands up for himself is allowing it to happen.
What I find the most disturbing out of this show (Jon and Kate Plus Eight) is that most of the shows have been about all the ways in which they have been spending their money since they got in the show. Apparently, they make 70K an episode. For that kind of money I’d do shows with Hitler for a few months. There have been episodes about hair implants, about moving to a bigger home, and now about their specialty bike……spend, spend…That seems to be the whole drive behind the show.
Sadly, although they have a much better house, are filthy rich, and they even look like pseudo-movie stars now the family seems to be falling apart because of the show. Seems like when you get addicted to stuff you only see and value the world through it’s materialistic gifts and the thought that dominates is “what can I get next”…..
One’s addiction to “things” makes all life’s true blessings feel mundane……and boring

Having watched from the beginning of the J/K+8 days on Discovery Health it’s indeed sad to see two such lovely people come to this…But, before I go making a judgmental fool of myself let’s remember that these are REAL PEOPLE, with REAL PROBLEMS…they and every other celebrity deal with the same day to day crap we all do, except in the glaringly bright light of tabloids, tv shows, etc. Yes, they chose to go on this show and have reaped many thousands of dollars of benefits, but take a look at yourself before you decide to write some low blow comments on a website because no one can confront you for it.
We’re all trying to get through life alive…let’s give a little more love to each other. Even Jon, Kate, and their very Real children.

  • kayla

so now those poor 8 children are being forced to pimp for a bunch of bikers. gee, nothing more healthy for a bunch of 5 and 8 year olds to be hanging around freaking bikers. anything for $$$$$, right Jon and Kate?? and TLC??

  • Silverlaker

Talk about mixed messages! Attn: Producers. If you want the con to work that Jon & Kate are together (and not separated, on verge of divorce, wh is painfully obvious) than you can’t have them “together” for the ‘live action’ segments and then, unexceptionably, not have them together when they’re interviewed. Story wise, your premise makes no sense. Either continue the ruse and have them act like they’re still together or address the obvious issue and move the series to a later hour, and just own it and make it an adult show.
You can’t have it both ways TLC! You know what you need — a true Hollywood screenwriter, your characterizations makes NO SENSE!

  • Silverlaker

As a side note, how much do we love how Kate is being sooo flirty and fun in contrast to pouty John who looks like he should be on a suicide watch. She is acting VERY happy and sexy — wonder if it’s just the Us Weekly covers or maybe a little something (someone) more.

  • Sherri

“Reality”. Right. J&K may act like their TV “characters” seven minutes a week or seven days a week. We don’t know. It’s all edited in order to entice us to watch. Since I don’t see or know how they really are I can only wish the best for them and their children.

  • Patricia Webb

Those beautiful children should be shown more. Their parents both love them I’m sure, and it’s just hard to see the way the children are brushed over with the camera, then here comes their mama hoarding the camera again. Keep the babies more visible in the future. That’s the most enjoyable time of the whole show watching them interact with one another.
All of this feuding of the parents just makes me want to abandon my interest in the show itself.

  • Heather

I really enjoyed the show! I saw it from the “Chopper” perspective and haven’t watched the “J&K+8″ just yet on DVR. Yeah J&K are having problems…don’t we all? Give them a break. They’ll get through this b/c they are stronger than the will of all this negativity. :)
Why is everyone so addicted to negative drama?
