What a great way to get a second season of True Blood going. Sookie, Bill, Jason, Tara, Sam — all the major characters charged into new story-lines with some fresh-blood supporting characters to jump-start the action.
I liked the way that bratty, new-vampire Jessica has returned and is already getting in the way of Sookie and Bill’s relationship. “I had to create a vampire as reparation for the one I destroyed to save you,” said Bill to Sookie, coming perilously close to adding, “Don’t blame me, girlie — I did it for you.” Good thing he didn’t, because our Sookie would have given him a piece of her mind.
Meanwhile, one of the most heartening aspects of True Blood’s new season is the way Tara has become a more fully-rounded character. She’s not just the angry, grumpy gal she was most of last season. Grappling with her mother’s alcoholism and coming to terms with her own unhappiness has made her more vulnerable. And thus susceptible to the charms of Maryann. Who also has a past with our beastie-boy Sam. (By the way, how great is it to see Michelle Forbes in a role that really shows her range?)
As for Sookie’s brother, I’ve seen the first few episodes of the new season, and I can tell you: the subplot about Jason getting religion in the Light of Day church that started off so cracklingly tonight only gets better. This story-line enables the series to use actor Ryan Kwanten’s babyface-devil expressiveness very effectively.
Finally, regarding Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric as one of the most egotistical, vain, purely enjoyable vampires since Bela Legosi’s, and a heck of a lot sexier: Give this man a raise. His increased visibility this season can only help.
Oh, and really finally: Tell me what you think about Lafayette in the dungeon. Freaky-scary or what?
What did you think of True Blood’s season opener?

So glad they didn’t kill Lafayette! that would have just ruined the show for me.
I was on the edge of my seat! Its was GREAT! Its was great to see Eric, back, he is going to be a great change to everything, not because he is HOT, but he needs more air time.
I am a devote reader of all the books and can defintley say I really enjoy the show too. The changes that have been made are very interesting and keep my attention! I don’t find myself complaining about the changes but just more intrigued! I love that Lafayette is still alive and the addition of Jessica and Jason involvement in the FoS is pretty cool! Book are greta but the show is definetly building upon them….enjoyed tonight and looking forward to next week!
Worst episode ever. Hope the season gets better and attemps to follow the books at least a little.
What an episode! I was so so pumped for this premiere and it did not disappoint. Then we got a great present in the last 5 minutes….ANNA PAQUIN!
Wow…she is hot!
Can’t get enough, thirsty for more already.

Great episode! Can’t wait to see more of Jessica’s storyline. I love the little touches – Bill fretting about recycling, Eric with highlighting foil in his hair.
the recycling bit was hilarious. he’s a blood sucker, but don’t mess with his ozone layer mother fu…
lol
im still in shock in terms of the whole episode. it definitely opened up so many possible storylines and directions that all the situations can go. the dungeon thing is so insane and i cant wait to find out more!! and i still have so many questions about maryanne. and i completely agree with what other people said….the recycling stuff was HYSTERICAL. ahhh i love bill!
Skarsgard consistently makes Eric memorable with only a few minutes screen time…. my favorite import! Looking forward to more of him this season….and read the books to see where this might go…. : )
So good! Better than I expected. I’m so happy that I was shocked and did not predict what happened.
It was a great premiere! Bill recycles. Of COURSE Bill recycles, ha.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! Can’t wait til next week. Very hot….
One thing that does bother me about this show. Jason!
Do they have to make him look so dumb? I mean, he looks like the equivalent of Peter Griffin most of the time. In an I.Q test, I don’t know who would win between Jason and Peter Griffin.
Seriously, no one is THAT dumb.
By the way…Anna = yum!
I personally hope they don’t kill off Lafayette. I know he dies in the books, but he’s one of the strongest characters on the show.
SO GOOD
it was hard watching jason go through a whole episode without taking off his shirt though…
Loved it!
Awesome show, can’t wait for next week!
That was awesome. Scary from start to finish. The dungeon was super creepy.
this episode a little rough in the begininng but later..wow i loved it and i didnt expect anna paq. boobs at the end.i hope they dont cancel this show.
havin seen it yet some nice person is going to have to put it on the web for me the still waiting
Tried it, most certainly did not bite!! too much foul language. Normal people just don’t talk like that.Could have been good, shame really, Pacquin was good.
Who do we have to talk to to get a True Blood TV Watch started?!?!
got it on the pirate bay
I love this show. I didn’t watch the first season until this week but now I have been bitten and I can’t get enough of it! I’m addicted to true blood. Thank you sisters for bringing Lafayette back. This is the best show since Six Feet Under!
I am so happy that Lafayette is back. He was one of my favorite characters and hysterical to watch.
The episode was almost too busy, but I loved it! I’m so glad Lafayette is alive, that’s definitely the best change from the books so far.
I thought Moyer and Paquin hit it out of the park with their emotional scenes. And, of course, the love scene was all kinds of hot awesomeness.
I liked that AB found a way to keep Lafayette, it’s a well done character. Jessica will probably be a lot of fun too. Those deviations from the book I like.
But 2 minutes of Eric is just not enough! And honestly, Eric isn’t likely to wig out and kill someone before he gets his answers out of them. He’s the quintessential pragmatist – cool as a cucumber until he’s ready to turn on the heat!
THEN it’s bonehead tartar.
It was great. Is is the hottest show on TV.

Loved the fact it included a bit of everything: romance (Bill and Sookie, of course), comedy (Jason actually “thinking” was just hilarous), horror (the dungeon was pretty freaky, but it did remind me of the movie “Saw”), action (the mad Eric was scary). It was just lovely to see Mr. Skarsgard’s wonderful work and finally show more about his gift. I enjoyed the fact that it was not exactly like the book, since it stills gives more twists and turns. Looking good!
Sookie’s self-righteousness was puke-worthy tonight. She whined to Bill about her childhood around Uncle Bartlett, threw a hissy at Gram’s funeral, then was angry with Bill when he killed Bartlett. And turning down the money from his meager estate? Eff that! I’d get the house painted…god knows it needs it.
Really. How “moral” can a woman be, when that woman is fuc*ing a vampire?
