I have always loved Conan’s humor and some of last night worked really well, but overall I was underwehelmed. Conan seemed “off” his usual laser-sharpness, and it seemed an awkward marriage of his edigier 12:30 time slot humor watered down to be a bit more “Tonight Show” larger-audience-generic. I will toss it off to understandable opening-night jitters and keep watching. He’s absolutely in the right place, just needs to get the kinks out and not shy away from his quirks and that which makes him unique. I know he can do it!

I thought that Conan’s debut was pathetic. He TRIED to be cute and TRIED to be funny, but when you TRY to do these things, rather than BEING these things, you fail. Particularly telling was the Hillary Clinton message–how dumb was that? And enough with the dumb arm movements already.
But the good news was that after 15 minutes of watching, I know that I am missing nothing by ignoring this show. And it’s too bad because I thought it worked well on the later show.

    I really enjoyed last night’s show. :)
The opening bit with Conan “running” across America wasn’t great but it was promising (loved the use of Cheap Trick’s “Surrender”!).
It was great to see Andy again, and I’m glad Max was there too… The bits that made me laugh the most were the whole thing with the Universal Studios tram, the Lakers game clip, Conan’s opening joke about being on the “last-place network” (NBC) working in a state that’s going bankrupt (California) and being sponsored by General Motors, and the bit with the “D” supposedly taken from the Hollywood sign (hooray for Hollywoo!).

I grew up on the Tonight Show from the Jack Parr days as I first remember. Of course no one will ever replace JC. Leno grew on me. I did not like him at first. But I have to say based on opening night, I will get more sleep from now on. I won’t make it a habit to wait up to see the show. I thought it was extremely poor and boring. Maybe I am just too old to get into Conan.

Conans first night out was a total flop. NBC went from Class to Trash when it preferred Conan over Leno. NONE of the material Conan presented last night even cracked a smile. DULL to put it mildly. The set was absolutely gorgeous but defintely the wrong captain at the helm. This will spell the end for the Tonight Show and America can go to sleep and hour earlier. NBC executives are not known for wise decision making. This move is but another example why they are in last place in the ratings and will remain so.

After watching last night I can say the Tonight Show has gone from boring to …..BORING.

Conan is not funny and to play off of Forest Gump in the beginning was stupid. Please tell his side kick to stop forcing a laugh and to turn down his mike. And Conan, not every joke can be an inside joke, remember your audience. It will be early to bed from now on or maybe Letterman can benefit.
