'The Late Show with David Letterman': Meanwhile, over at Dave's...

David Letterman did not let the premiere of Conan O’Brien’s first Tonight Show go unmentioned:

I don’t think we’re in for all-out, late-night war — that’s so, y’know, Leno-esque. Besides, Letterman appreciates Conan’s stated admiration for Dave’s body of work. Well, Dave did say that while Conan is “a tremendous guy,” he also noted, “I think years ago, he killed a guy.” Oh, yes, I do think it’s going to get even more interesting than usual over in the house of Late Show

Bill Cosby was Dave’s big-name guest last night, and they had a terrific conversation, including Cosby sharing a funny story about the late George Carlin.

Never count the older guys out, kids.

Did you watch Letterman? What did you think?

David Letterman is the funniest of all those late night guys. He improvises, he is quircky, unpredictable and courageous in his skits. The Tom Cruise interview, Phoenix are such that no other comedian could do. I love Dave!

Sadly, I watched Conan but could not make it through his entire start – SO BORING – I fell asleep almost right away!!!! I’ll see Dave tonight.

Conan O’Brien is BORING … one dimensional and delusional in thinking that his Harvard, hip, style is still funny. I turned off my Tivo for The Tonight Show. From now on it is Letterman for me.

The Late Night War is gonna be interesting now . . . instead of “guy who deserved job” fighting “guy who came from left field and TOOK job”, it’s more like a father-son battle (Dave being the progenitor of both Conan’s old show and smart/juvenile humor). Plus the guys actually like each other and probably won’t hesitate to mention one another. Fun times ahead.

I watched Dave and will continue to watch Dave. I do like Conan, but I love Dave. He has a great way of looking at things, and when it comes to the serious subjects he is 1. truly interested and 2. sometimes as baffled as the news can make all of us. Then there are the moments of sincerity as with Mr. Cosby and the moments of hilarity (like later this week I expect when Paris Hilton returns). Dave does it all and it’s all I require of my late-night viewing. Sorry, C.

My DVR is going to be very busy with these two on at the same time.

I only watch Dave and Craig. They are still the best in late night. I did watch Leno’s finale (cause Dave was on reruns). It had some very touching moments. Conan is annoying and no amount of press is going to keep that ship from sinking. He is so hyper – hiding him at the “Late Night” position was a gift. Now for all to see at an earlier hour- he’ll choke. Hasn’t matured at all over the years and we’re not laughing at the stupid stuff anymore.
    Hail to Dave and Craig!

Watching Dave last night, I can’t help but wish he was the Tonight Show host. He’s just so good what a show that would be. I like Conan and think he’ll be fine, but I still wish Dave had the job for a bit first.

I love David Letterman – he is one of my biggest comedic influences, but I also enjoy Conan. It’s a shame Letterman isn’t hosting The Tonight Show… but as other people have mentioned, my DVR will be busy taping these two guys.
