Susan Boyle loses 'Britain's Got Talent'!

Categories: Television

Susan Boyle lost Britain’s Got Talent to the ten-person dance crew Diversity. “Lads, I wish you all the best,” said Boyle graciously. It was a stunning loss. Boyle took second place in the voting.

Boyle chose to sing again the song that first brought her fame, “I Dreamed a Dream.” Dressed in a blue gown and saying that this performance represented “forty years of doin,’” the Scottish sensation gave this final performance:

Given all the publicity Boyle received here in the States, it wasn’t clear to many of us just how close the competition has been all along. To American eyes, the hiphop dance-troupe Diversity looks pretty ordinary, don’t you agree? But judge Simon Cowell hailed them as “the only act tonight I’d give a ‘10′ to” and “sheer and utter perfection.” Judge for yourself:

Diversity will perform before the Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Variety Show and wins 100,000 pounds (about $159,000).

What do you think of the results? What do you think the future holds for Susan Boyle?

Thank goodness this overhyped episode is finally over. Now we can get back to caring about Jon and Kate, Real Housewives and Twilight. Oh my God, I think I am about to cry. What has entertainment been reduced to.

  • Maria

I was hoping Susan would win… but Diversity is excellent, too. I can’t wait to get the first of Susan’s CDS. She’ll be a great star!!

  • Steve

Diversity outperformed the other 9 acts. Their routine was genius. Best act won!

I thought Diversity was the best act in the finale, followed by Susan, so I’m happy they won. Also when each act was announced in the beginning they got the most cheers so I figured they would win. I did think Shaun or Aidan deserved to get third over the sax player though…

  • WalterNeff

She didn’t lose. Diversity won and she placed second. People don’t lose contests, other people win them

  • Brent

For Susan Boyle, the future holds the same as the past: obscurity.

  • Caitlin

Q, you are right on. As pathetic as that story was it beats anything here.

  • Amy

As a Brit I’d find your ‘to American eyes Diversity looks pretty ordinary’ comment a bit offensive if that didn’t sum up the entire show and all it’s competitors, including Susan Boyle.

I think maybe the novelty of Susan Boyle wore off quickly – yes, we were all blown away by her first performance, I mean come one, she was fantastic! And I will always youtube that video when I’m depressed and want to cry some more, but maybe that’s what was so great about her: not that she had an amazing voice, but that no one expected her to have an amazing voice and than she blew. us. all. away. She showed the whole world up. And maybe that was a one time thing.
I still love her, but I wasn’t too surprised she didn’t win. And maybe those Brits don’t have enough dance crews over there? Who knows.

I agree that this year’s Britain’s Got Talent was the most hyped show ever.
I liked Susan Boyle’s voice, but did not think she was the second coming of HIM like many of her fans did.
She will have a record deal, tour and become rich.

And Shaheen is an amazing talent… he outsung all the other singers including Susan… pure talent at 12 years old.

  • sunny singh

Cant believe they Won up against Susan Boyle. Shocking! Well Susan Boyle has still got 5 million album deal with Syco so she’ll do well with this fame she has achieved so quickly.

  • Paul

    Diversity: boring and banal.

  • Anat – Israel

So sorry Suzan didnt win. she was The Best! and definietly deserved it!!!

  • A

Diversity had the most creative, fresh performance of all. I’m so glad they won!

  • diego

Susan rocks in so many ways. She’s already won. Diversity was just okay, I wish them the best. But Susan, oh Susan! Don’t change a thing and get that CD out there!

  • steve

And Shaheen is an amazing talent… he outsung all the other singers including Susan… pure talent at 12 years old.

I oved diversity from the beginning. Knowing the reaction America and the rest of the world gave susan boyle, we knew she is going to be massive no matter what, and probably that is why she didnt win. Each time diversity came out they were original and entertaining, and simon was right that they deserved the ten.

She may have placed second in the show, but I guarantee she will have a more financially successful career. Her CDs will sell in the USA. In the States, the only really bad press is no press. My only sorrow is that critics and stress led her to re-do her first song rather than give us the privilege of hearing something new. But I, like others, will wait for the CD. And BTW, if the rumors are true that she yelled at nosy quasi-reporters, hey, good for her!

  • Marion

Susan would have won if she had not been hounded so viciously. If I were she I would be completely fed up. Diversity were very good, but Susan deserves more.

  • optimistic

I’m sorry but the dance troupe will not make as much as Susan Boyle. We will all buy her records but we won’t buy tickets to see the boys dance.

  • Barbs

Diversity will always be defined in terms of Susan Boyle. They don’t have any future, other than on a variety show or two, but Susan does.

  • Kelly

It’s no surprise Susan lost. IMO she didn’t live up to that first performance (which, let’s face it, was a pretty impossible task once it took off around the world), so on talent alone it’s questionable whether she should have taken the prize. There’s also the fact that there’s been a bit of a backlash against Susan recently over here, thanks to all of the media attention etc – we Brits suffer terribly from Tall Poppy syndrome, so (1) generally vote for an underdog over the favourite and (2) look for any excuse to cut down anyone we perceive as getting ‘too big for their boots’.

    Susan,
You didn’t lose in the eyes of most of the U.S. Your
singing will last for ages. While the dancers are
talented, we won’t be “listening” to them years from now.
I am looking forward to your first CD, and US tour.
We are waiting to see you in person.
God bless you. YOU ARE A WINNER!
    Love from the USA

  • kotor

    Susan should have won!

  • Uh oh

Wonder if AT&T had anything to do with THIS one……..

  • Arell

I think Susan Boyle will continue to be
a soaring star … Diversity is a simple diversion … not star quality like susan! It takes guts to stand on stage alone … Diversity is a group.
True talent lies in one’s being a single talent, standing in front of a live audience! Any dance troupe will tell you that!

  • anybody

how can that be? nothing makes any sense in the entire world now.

  • Nancy

Yes. Agreed. Diversity is “fairly ordinary”. Actually you are being too kind in your comments. There are High School Cheerleaders here in the States that could dance around this group! This actually reminds me of a rather dated & badly done cheer routine. This is “talent” in the UK?

  • fishy smell

She’s already a big hit and doesn’t need to win to be rich. http://cuteguysandgirls.com
