Jay Leno for me, was a major success, he was entertaining and funny, do not understand and like Letterman’s humor, Conan is great with younger audiences, eventhough sometimes is boring, Craig Ferguson, first 30 minutes are rated among the best in late night television…ABC and what’s his name, simply put, is pretty bad…Leno would have been great in ABC…their loss…

You go to Letterman if you want to laugh; you go to Leno if you want to be treated well. I always preferred the latter.

I am a Letterman fan, but sometimes watched Leno instead as he is my husband’s choice. There were certain bits of his that I did find funny I will admit. But from this point forward I will not be missing any Letterman as Conan is not a choice of either mine or my husband. He seems to be very nervous and always second guesses the joke before the audience has a chance to laugh at the punchline. Like a puppy dog waiting for approval. At that time of night I want to relax and watch someone who is secure in what he – or she is doing. I know Conan knows his craft but can he at least relax and let us know he knows it? I don’t find him edgy, just on edge.

I wish “Cone-sy” the best. I’ll be checking out his new show for sure. Jay was “ok” – he didn’t knock me out with his brand of comedy and Letterman comes across as a grumpy old man. I do love when he puts people in their place like stupid Paris Hilton and Joaquin Phoenix. Now, Craig Ferguson is brilliant! Get that man a better time slot! I just wish more folks watched his show so he’d get terrific ratings. He’s an excellent interviewer – gets his guests to reveal interesting info.

Thought the end was classy and cool, really excited to see what Conan brings. More thoughts here: spunkybean.com/commentary/1007-the-tonight-show-the-conan-era-june-1

Wow, that’s the dumbest thing I think I’ve heard today! Conan is an idiot who appeals to stupid people w/ stupid senses of humor. NBC didn’t “choose” Conan over Leno. & frankly, I’d like to see Conan go up against Leno cuz Conan would lose. Conan’s brand of humor is infantile. Kinda like Letterman’s which is why Dave can’t win against Jay.

I have always liked JAY LENO..(remove 1 period; no need to use capital letters on whole name) I even liked watching Johnny Carson as I grew up. (suggest you remove this sentence) I will miss him at late night (Jay Leno hosted The Tonight Show, Conan hosted Late Night) and will watch him at 10pm(.) I LIke (no need for capitals in this word) his comedy and his reality of life (instead of “his reality of life”, suggest “his realism”). I DON(‘)T LIKE CONAN (capital letters again)(!) (H)is comedy is for idoits (spelled “idiots”). I tried several times to watch him when there were SUPER starts (stars) on that I wanted to see. I just (remove “just”) figure(ed) he is for the younger and not as well educated out there (remove)(,) (b)ut ya (you) figured that (be)cause he was writer for (The) (S)impsons with (the) crude(,) idiotic(,) and not (remove “not”) (un)funny jokes of that show.
    GOOD LUCK JAY
My best to Jay, but I for one am ready for Conan!
    From,
    An “Idoit” Conan Fan

I am in my late 40s, so I would assume you don’t count me among the “younger” set. I think Jay Leno is witless and smarmy, I cannot abide him, never could, so please, please do not credit me with keeping him on the air ‘all these years.’

Leno Is very lame and a backstabber, Conan is a preppy and born with a silver spoon, he is not funny at all

Leno is cliche. His jokes, tired and old. It’s time for him to go. Conan, while decidedly awkward last night, has the ability to make the Tonight Show relevant again. By relevant, I mean catch an audience below 35. Times are changing; Judd Apatow comedies attest to the fact that what sells are witty characters that are both awkward and endearing. Therefore, if they want a hit, they need to feed the culture what it likes, not what it eats because there’s nothing else available. (In reference to Carson, the day is past, and it’s time to move on. The “back in my day” shtick is code for unwilling to accept change.)

I thought Leno did a good job. I am 26 so I never saw Carson, but I have been watching Leno and Conan for 10 years or so and enjoy both of their very different styles.
I always liked Jay’s Monday Headlines, Jay Walking, Jaywalk Allstars, and the bit where he would go to a local apartment complex, knock on doors and they would re-create the movies that were currently in theaters.
Some people here are being to critical, after all, he was at the helm of TTS for a long time, so he had to have been doing something right.
I never could get into Letterman, too dry for me. People say Conan is just a younger Letterman but I dont see it (or maybe I havent watched Letterman long enough).
And Jimmy Fallon…..uggggh. And I was a BIG fan of his on SNL, I actually like when he broke character, it made it funnier. But as a talk show host, he is not doing too hot right now. Maybe with experience he will get better, but it seems like his show is turning to cheap bits w/ no imagination.
