Susan Boyle won the popular vote — the “public vote,” as they say in England — on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent, singing “Memory” from Cats. Her voice quavered a little at the start but soon became clear and strong. Wearing a glittery brown dress, standing behind a backdrop of clouds with a spotlight behind her head making it look as though her face was emanating from heaven, Boyle pulled off her second major public appearance with ease.
During the first of five live semifinals on Talent, Boyle said she wanted to win “more than anything ever in my life.” Granted, the competition didn’t seem very fierce: she defeated, among others, Darth Jackson (a guy in a Darth Vader helmet who danced to “Thriller”) and Nick Hell, who attached a pickaxe to his ear-lobes and broke a dinner plate with it.
If Boyle had any competition in terms of crowd sentiment, it was adorable 10 year-old singer Natalie Okri, who burst into tears when Simon Cowell cast the final vote against her. (On this show, the public calls in votes. At the end of the episode, the “public vote” winner is revealed, and then the show’s three judges pick from the two other highest vote-getters; a dance troupe called Diversity beat Okri.)
Boyle said a win for her — the victor will be announced next weekend — would “prove that I am a worthwhile person.”

Win or lose, Susan Doyle IS a worthwhile person with rare talent.
Susan will always be a worthwhile person. I am just happy that she has been able to share her talent and be recognized for it.
Hold up…what happened to Shaheen Jafargoli?? He’s the only one who could give Susan Boyle any competition…
Susan Boyle is a great singer. You
can’t blame her for being a little nervous at first. So much is expected
of her.
Still gives me goosebumps
We all know that Susan is very worthwhile individual and so does GOD and HE will make her efforts all worthwhile. I’m sure of it. You go girl.
I CANNOT wait for a ‘Susan Boyle’ album. I will stand in line to buy it!
Well done Susan, you sounded like Elaine Paige. Wins for Susan Boyle & Jensen Buttons on the same day. Yeh.
As the first time I heard her sing, this performance gave me chills and brought me to tears. Her voice is like none I have heard. Yes, I am an older listener but this beats the screaming of others hands down. Her clarity and presentation is exceptional. Bravo!!
Susan Boyle has obviously won the public’s hearts and as well as the likely winner would make an excellent ambassador for BGT and the UK.
diversity were AMAZING!
WORTHWHILE PERSON?
Susan Boyle is the only worthwhile thing we ever had in a long time.. murders and kidnappings and bank failures—
GOD BLESS SUSAN BOYLE. she put a smile to my face. My hero Homer simpson thinks she is his hero too. Obama is his fan..
It’s hard to sing when you can’t breathe. The pressure must have been incredible for her, so much expectation from millions around the world. I couldn’t breathe and I was just sitting in front of my computer watching the show. Well, after a few shaky notes she rallied like the pro she is and gave a powerful performance, thrilling us all once more. Love her. A beautiful, talented woman is Susan Boyle.
What an inspiration she gives to many! You’re right she gives me goosebumps. Her voice is heaven sent. She reminds of Sarah Crawford when she sings this. Hey Susan, how about the Phantom role??

I AM TIRED OF WAITING ON BLOODY SIMON COWELL AND BGT. tHAT VOICE IS ONCE IN A LIFETIME AND IT CAME THRU AT THE END..ITS THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL.. THE INNOCENCE WE ALL LOST
Susan Boyle is amazing and undoubtedly the winner but Diversity also deserves some credit for an inventive, funny and charming performance.
If ever there was a ‘worthwhile’ person on God’s green earth it is certainly and without a doubt, Susan Boyle.
Man alive… I still get the chills when she sings. Fabulous.
I thought the judges made the best decision, but shouldn’t have been put in that position, it should go just on audience figures, then Natalie wouldnt have been so obviously ruled out!! The judges have already narrowed it down, although they made some strange choices e.g… Nick Hell, and Darth Vadour!!
i would love to hear her sing you,ll never walk alone from south pacific in the final.
Beautiful performance!!! and great future….don’t blame her for being a little nervous. I was on front of my computer and eating my nails too. Susan, you’ll fly high and far away in your singing career. Best of luck to you. God bless you always.
Susan God is with you. He is going to use you in ways you never expected. A gift he has given you to share with the world and share you will, that is how you are.
Definitely the favourite to win this all. Kinda unfair to the rest of the talent though, who don’t get nearly as much of the media attention.

What an awesome voice! Like a true performer she was able to overcome her bout with nerves and give us another stunning performance.
another great performance. I am ready to buy her music. Lets see it.
Did no one else think that she sounded awful today?
Amazing. All that bone-crushing pressure and she still came through like she was on wings. Brava, Susan — you and your voice still give me hope.
Susan Boyle is a completely refreshing change from 18 year olds screaming on American idol. Mature, steady, even tempered voice!
She looks very simply beautiful, with her mild makeover, she emmanates beauty and innocence with her voice and demenor and yes those chills, and tears from hearing her sing astound me every time I play these vids.
