Susan Boyle makes it to the 'Britain's Got Talent' finals... but look who else made it!

Categories: Television

To the surprise of no one on Earth, Susan Boyle was among the 40 acts put through to the live semi-finals on Britain’s Got Talent this evening. Then again, so was this guy:

There seems to be a certain laxness on the part of the judges across the pond, with Simon Cowell much more of a pushover for a novelty act. He called 73 year-old break-dancer Fred Bowers “absolutely brilliant.” Is this absolutely brilliant?:

Oh, well, tomorrow night, the show goes live. Susan Boyle will make her return.

SUNDAY UPDATE: Susan Boyle advances to the next round; see her performance of “Memory” from “Cats”

Looks like Boyle is on her way to a title. Hopefully she stays on track though.

It was so frustrating watching tonight!!! They let some really crap acts through… darth vader, really? nick hell? URGH

Amanda Holden is a really nice person but she is too mcuh of a softie and pushover for random novelty acts. I mean no one wants to watch some fat guy belly dance, or watch someone pierce themselves. That wasn’t entertaining it was cringeworthy.

I think Boyle will win, they will lose too many ratings if they kick her off. http://www.datingcutesingles.com/

Susan Boyle is completely over-rated. I find it immeasurably shallow that she is getting so much praise simply because she is not attractive and has a decent voice. What is the message that people are trying to put out? That if you are not good-looking, you can’t sing? If Boyle did not look like she did, she would be set aside as somebody with a decent Broadway voice and nothing more. She can sing, but she is not fantastic. And everybody would believe that if she were attractive. How sad that there are people in this world who are so surprised that somebody like Susan Boyle has a decent voice. But chills? She NEVER gave me chills with her “I Dreamed a Dream” performance.

Your commentary reflects more on you than Susan Boyle’s fans, Bailey. But of course you will never be able to see that point from that platform you’re on.

  • Bailey

Whoa. I meant absolutely no offense. Ignore that comment completely. Sorry.

I love Susan but……….how did her eyebrows grow back and her hair return to gray??? Or was this taped from before???

  • dee dee

I could of closed my eyes while listening to Susan sing and again
I would of had “chills”!!! I think she is great..

I have played her video so many times. This is a voice that should have been found sooner. This kind of music is wonderful. All the screeming and yelling with the young people gets old fast. Bring back music like Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Bing Crosby etc. There are still a lot of people who like that music.

Susan Boyle is an example of the blessings that GOD bestows, all in his good time. I pray she wins it all and reaps the benefits of success.

As a music producer and a someone who specializes in vocals, Susan Boyle has a fantastic voice. Unfortunately, if you are not great looking, especially these days, you don’t get much of a chance. What a shame! So many talented artists never make it because of how shallow we are! I can think Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. Not the best looking of singers, but in my professional opinion, two of the best American singers of all time.

Let me add one other thing.Isn’t amazing to watch the instantaneous transformation of a crowd of judgemental, snobish people change when their souls are touched.

I love her – she is on my bookmark and I listen to her every night – looking forward to hearing her tomorrow, even though we are 5 hours apart (I am in Canada) I will be logging in to watch – way to go Susie.

Bailey is accurately describing how people confuse what they see whith what they hear.

  • Furlan

I get sick and tired of people who only think they a person must be good looking, or pleasing to the eye to make it in the music business. I do not know if you have seen some of the recent hard rock artist…
I sincerely hope that Britain’s Got Talent pick the overwhelming talented and delightful, Susan Boyle, compared to the shameful of American Idol contest, where the truly most talented and gifted artist came in second !!!!

  • Wickeddoll

I think some of “Bailey’s” comments are on-target – Boyle is so popular because she’s unexpected. Had she looked like some cute little tart, she’d be noticed, but not a global sensation. Having said that, I think she has a great voice. Oh, and to the producer who said Nat King Cole wasn’t good-looking: You are wrong, mixer-breath. That man was muy caliente.

Bottom line: A singer will win this competition, and I predict a singer will win AGT…because, it’s always a singer winning. Simon likes anything British. He’s much kinder to “his” people.

Bailey, You are an ‘Arse’ hole !

  • T.T

    I agree with bailey
    susan boyle isn’t all that
now u wanna know who is ALL that?! Greg Pitchard from britains got talent

  • anonymous

Bailey I think that her looks helped to fuel the fire surrounding her popularity, but I think it is unfair to say that is the only reason. I have heard many singers in my day, and I actually heard an audio clip of her performance before I saw the video. I can honestly say from the audio clip, I thought she had one of the best voices I had ever heard, and I did get chills.

As soon as I saw a 3 second newscast in the house, I went into my office and looked up this unheard of person, Susan Boyle and watched her performance.
The whole episode with the comments from the judges bring me to tears everytime I play it. I downloaded the 43 mb HD version to my computer and have a shortcut to it on my desktop and play it many times a week, sometimes 6 to 10 times in a row. At playback #9, I need another towel. She is indeed remarkable and deserves the title.
The piercing is absolutely disgusting and is a poor example for our children and not worthy to be shown on TV. The older gentleman rolling around on the floor for 20 seconds wasn’t worth the air time.
To compare Susan Boyle’s performance in competetion with this other type of[talent?]is a disgrace to Susan, period!
    Mike
Her rendition of Cry Me A River was awesome. I’m a huge fan of Diana Krall who sings this song quite well, but I favor Susan’s vocals with this song over Diana’s.

Once i let a ture love slip away before my eyes, only to find myself regretting when it was too late, nothing in the world can be as painful as this, so my dear freind, Do not miss the love in your lifetime, go ___ClassyMingle.com.____ to find your ture love.

  • julie

    Hey Leo its T R U E not ture

Susan Boyle is an absolutely AVERAGE singer. I can’t stand the attention she gets, and it’s all because we feel like giving her attention redeems ourselves for judging her by her appearance. She would easily be outsang by the Top 2 of “American Idol” in just about any year, excluding Blake Lewis.

  • Vikki

Eh Colin – sounds like sour grapes to me – Susan Boyle has power in her voice, and she moves people. Her looks were an interesting twist and added to the surprise, but the world is not as foolish as you seem to think, nor are you so “enlightened” that you can say so and be taken seriously.

  • robert tunnison

I feel Susan Boyle is the number one winner in ALL departments including A to Z she presents herself so well and appears to be a humble person blessed with a voice from angels.

  • Mike Cason

AFTERDARK–You made the comment that if you are not great looking, you don’t get much of a chance. Ella and Nat King Cole did very well for themselves and are not bad looking. They are some artist’s idols, including Diana Krall.
Amanda Holden made a very important and touching comment that “in the beginning, everyone was against you”; followed up by the comment “Your performance was the greatest wake up call ever, and it was a real privelige to listen to you!”
I think and pray that with Susan’s performance of I Dream a Dream, this will leave an impact on the listeners who will be voting in the finals. There are already millions that don’t need to heed Amanda’s comments because they already realize who and what Susan really is.
Let’s us all hope that this is indeed a wake up call for those who are riding the fence of indecision, and will cast their vote for Susan. I am a true audiophile and participate in the audio industry myself.

  • dee dee

I believe her singing is beyond average
which brings on “the attention she gets”.
It all will come down to her cd sales right? what is wrong with people enjoying her singing? or any other type of music. if we like it we like it! we will buy the cd’s ! Hope she makes tons of money, gets to travel where she never thought she would go,
and gets “to become a professional singer” “like Elaine Paige” What is so awful about someone other than our self getting their “dream” to come true? Either you will buy her cd or not! real simple. GO SUSAN!
