Kiefer Sutherland, headbutt: What's the big deal?

Keifersutherland_l
So Kiefer Sutherland is facing “minor assault charges” for allegedly headbutting a guy at a party. I have no inside knowledge of the incident, of course, but based on the details common in various reports, Sutherland, who may or may not have been drinking (no law against that), headbutted a guy he thought was either invading his space, or the space of Brooke Shields.

As attack weapons go, the headbutt can be both relatively harmless — even the fellow pressing charges waited a while before deciding to do so, and doesn’t look as though he’s severely damaged — and a lot safer for both parties than, say, fists or some sort of weapon.

Sure, you can do harm with a headbutt — I’ve had my eyes blackened after being on the receiving end of one — but, c’mon, let’s give Sutherland some credit: he may have been provoked; he did execute the move with an efficiency and precision that casts doubt on the notion that he was seriously wasted.

Sounds like he learned something while training to be 24‘s Jack Bauer, or maybe before that. I say, let the actor get on with being Jack Bauer and whoever else he wants to portray onscreen; he doesn’t need more on his criminal record.

Disagree? Agree?

    Are you an idiot?

    “No further questions, Your Honor”
“Thank you, counsel. Any question from the Defendant? Yes? Go ahead, Mr Sutherland.”
“I WANT THE TRUTH AND I WANT IT NOW!!”

Sorry, Ken, headbutting someone outside of military combat or an action movie set is bat sh*t insane. Keifer was way off base with that one. Remember the soccer player who headbutted, I forget, another player or a ref? That was insane too. Sure, it’s better than his having pulled out a weapon, but wouldn’t an old-fashioned punch or slap or just some Jack Bauer intimidation have been better? Headbutting’s just weird. We’re not longhorn rams, dude.

Sorry, that was rude, although your little “What’s the big deal about celebrity violence” spiel is, simply and honestly, dumb. It’s a freaking head-butt. It’s an assault, and a rather ridiculous display of aggression – not self defense. And if he wasn’t drunk, that makes it kind of worse.

He should have used the waterboard

I agree 100%. This is why no one wants to stand up for women anymore, you get persecuted by the public. Brooke is so stinkin ungreatful! Getem Jack!

The fact that he surrendered himself into custody over such a minor incident would suggest that Sutherland feels he has nothing to worry about with the allegations. He’ll be legit, go to court, state his case, and head up to NY for Season 8 filming. No fuss, no muss.

I´m asking same question. What´s the problem with this?
    Seriously…what´s the problem?
That guy doesn´t look a big damage. He has not a broken nose, simply a little cut. This story is ridiculous. For me.

Kiefer is not allowed to physically harm anyone. No matter if it’s a head-butt, a trip, or a ninja touch… it doesn’t matter.
However, the punishment should correlate with the harm. The person in question was not injured, nor he faced any losses.
But then again, Kiefer was on probation, which means he could be in breach.
As much as I love Kiefer, AND JACK BAUER, in this case… he was wrong. Especially when Brooke Shields isn’t even collaborating to his story.
I’m worried about how this will affect the next season of 24, which is due to start taping this summer.

2 DUI’s and now a druken assault charge. It doesn’t lood good for him.

Let’s be real. The guy probably had it coming to him. We need more people like Kiefer in real life. And yes, he probably did think he was Jack Bauer…don’t we all?

What choice did he have but to surrender? Not like he’d take a White Bronco out for a slow speed pursuit over this. Still, it’s assault and he needs to face the music. Headbutting over someone “in your space” is most inappropriate.

At least Amy was not the villain this time.
There are more effective, legal, safer solutions. One, at least. Persuasive talk.

Right on, Ken. That guy was asking for it anyway. If anything, Kiefer is the gentleman here. Lighten up, world.
