The Jonas Brothers play the Lucas brothers in Jonas, their new Disney Channel sitcom-with-music. Brothers Nick, Kevin, and Joe Lucas are high schoolers who are also rock stars: the name of their band is Jonas. That’s the most complicated thing about the series. The rest is silly fun — Jonas is The Monkees for millennials.
In the first episode, Nick fell for a girl and wrote a song for her; a nice one, in fact, called “Give Love A Try.” (There’s a reason the real-life Jonas Brothers are a success: they’re good pop songwriters and performers.) Except that the girl thinks he wrote it for her — that is, for her to perform and record as her own. The confusion has intrinsically nice implications: yes, she may be a bit of a thief, but she’s no passive fan or docile girlfriend; she’s trying, a tad ruthlessly, to build her own career.
As actors, the Jonas brothers are at least as good as anyone else on the Disney Channel including the High School Musical cast. Like most pop musicians who act, they tend toward expressionless faces, but that just ups their cool-quotient to their fans. Jonas serves its audience well, with time-honored slapstick and foolish puns that hark back to Beatles movies, which in turn had harked back to Marx Brothers movies. I’m a little surprised the Jonas Brothers, whose audience now extends well beyond its tween base, wants to spend its time with this lightweight sitcom. But from the sound of “Give Love A Try,” it hasn’t hurt their music.

I enjoyed the show very much. I think they are just as good actors as other Disney stars. I will be tuning in next week too!!
Best show on disney, Period!
I LOVE The Jonas Brothers! I am their biggest fan ever! I love the show! It’s my favorite! I’ll be tuning in every week!
I thought the show was hilarious. I can’t wait for the next episode!
I think the show is awesome – these boys can do no wrong.
I loved it. Joe looked beautiful. Nick was totally being Nick, Mr. Serious. And Kevin. Oh Kevin. He IS the comedian of the trio. I can’t wait until Frankie shows up!
The first episode of JONAS was great! It was actually funny for Disney. It was pretty legit. Way better than Hannah Montana. Haha, and I’m not just saying that.
The writing surprised me and I bursted out laughing multiple times without needing the audience laughter in the background like on your usual Disney Channel shows.
I liked the single camera shots. It’s different and this show is going to be a HIT!
i actually saw it on youtube…i live in canada so it hasnt premiered yet…and i watched another episode …groovy movies…go search it sooo funni and i agree without the laughtrack its nicer…i actually laugh
I loved Jonas so much! I thought is was incredible and I also loved the acting paired with the awesome music. I can’t wait for it to be on iTunes so I can buy the season pass!!
Flight of the Jonai? Tenatious J? Any other comedy/parody singing group that had their own show? This is fun to change the original name and adding a Jonas twist haha.
Wow surprised with the great reviews. Might need to catch it myself.

I’m a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers as a band and have been for a few years. I was DREADING this show and what it would do to them (I was pretty disgusted with Camp Rock, no fault of theirs, it was just not very well done) – but I thought this was GREAT. It’s goofy, it’s flippant, but it’s still lovingly produced, nice to look at it and has enough of what I really like about these guys to work. It’s a fluffy trifle, but these guys can do silly and make it weirdly watchable – just like they always did in early days on YouTube. I was not embarrassed for them or being a fan, at all. So far so good!
Everyone at my house loved this show. We watched it again thanks to satellite and two different Disney channels. This has got to be the best Disney channel show out there. It was funny and entertaining. And we loved the music.
“There’s a reason the real-life Jonas Brothers are a success: they’re good pop songwriters and performers.”
No, the reason they’re successful is because of their looks and stupid preteen girls who have zero taste in music. Good songwriters and performers? Please. That’s more of a joke than anything. I’ve seen their performances, and frankly, I don’t know WHAT there is to be impressed with. They can’t sing OR dance. They’re like Ken dolls onstage. And their songwriting is juvenile at best. Songs about girls that you fall in love with and break up with. Oh, yeah, that’s NEVER been done before, right? The Disney Corporation has NO interest in seeking people with talent, as evidenced by their other sub-par stars, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, etc. They’re all about promoting squeaky-clean teenagers with good moral values who never make mistakes and who are better role models than a kid’s own parents could ever be. While they’re making money of their backs, as well as the consumer’s back.
And to compare them to the Monkees, Beatles and Marx Brothers is an outright insult. Those guys were actually good, the Jonas Brothers aren’t. On ANY capacity. They’re a waste of timeand space.
