MTV announces parkour series: jump for possible joy!

Categories: Television

MTV announced nine new series for “the millennial generation” (you know who you are) (don’t you?) yesterday, and amidst shows about celebrity stylists (working title: The Stylist) and an intriguing-sounding animated series called DJ and The Fro from the guys who brought you Drawn Together, there’s also Ultimate Parkour Challenge.

Now this is a show I’m looking forward to. Hyping the running-leaping-climbing activity as “the world’s fastest growing extreme sport” doesn’t quite do parkour justice, but it’s a great excuse for me to show you this clip, which I never get tired of (I particularly like the guy hopping over a moving car about 2:40 in):

What do you think? Will you watch a parkour-championship show?

I would consider watching this show. Except it’ll take just one idiotic kid splitting his stupid skull open while trying these stunts at home to get the show canceled. Do these parkour and free runner dudes tend to become stunt men or what?

Sure, I’ll give it a shot — if only to give my “District B-13″ DVD a break. ;-)

I’d definitely be interested in watching that. The emphasis on tricks in that video makes me think it’s closer to freerunning, though.

Millennials represent! And that sounds really cool. I have some friends who are really into parkour.
But I don’t know anyone who still watches MTV.

    Um… I really don’t see the point.

No this is not right Parkour is not about competiton MTV is gonna ruin the whole idea of it.

  • KOE

OMG THIS WILL BE A BIG BREAKTHROUGH IN THE U.S TO LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT WHAT PARKOUR REALLY IS AND FREE RUNNING.

  • Alex PK

Making Parkour competitive will not only hurt the pk community, but also the philosophy behind which true Parkour stands for. Please reconsider.

I think it is an amazing sport. it takes immense skill to do what these ATHELETS do and whats to say this is the new form of extreme sport for our generation. Movement is coming!

God MTV sucks! Now their bastardizing parkour. What next? Seriously fcck MTV. fccking hate that channel ever since it rebranded itself as the new latino/BET/trailor-trash/college slut/drug addict/bratty-teenager/std-in-your-face, arm of the communist party.
