'Jon & Kate' goes to the dogs

Have not been able to resist tuning in to the latest additions to the Gosselin family on Jon & Kate Plus Eight: two dogs, Shooka and Nala, who are busy licking, peeing, and swallowing kiddie toys — is it any wonder Kate referred to them last night as “just two added kids”? Is it any wonder last night’s episode began with Kate off on one of those unexplained “business trips” she’s taking with increasing frequency? I assume it’s to make a personal appearance to talk about Jon & Kate Plus Eight, but she’s missing lots of camera-time, to say nothing of quality-time, with husband Jon, the kids, and the new dogs — all valuable sources of anecdotes for the family’s mini-industry of TV show, books, lectures, etc.

Granted, adding two pups to their octo-brood is not nuttiness on the scale of Nadya Suleman. But it is pretty nutty, given the fact that, the way the reality series presents it, the Gosselins got the dogs soon after finally moving to a bigger house. With all the emotional turmoil moving brings on, especially for a neat-freak like Kate, you’d think having to train two dogs would be the last thing on earth these parents would want to add to their lives.

On the plus side, the kids seem to adore the dogs, and the dogs seem to adore them. (Who would not want to see the adorable Joel, to single out just one of these lovely children, frisking around with a puppy who laps up his attention?)

We were left with the lonely spectacle of Jon in the family’s new large back yard, a state-of-the-art pooper-scooper in one hand and a plastic garbage bag in the other, patrolling for dog droppings. How much more can this man take?

What do you think of Jon & Kate‘s dog decision? A good addition to the family, or nightmares waiting to happen?

i am so sick of these shows about people with an ungodly amount of kids. i know the Lord said “Go forth and multiply, but he was talking about population the world when there was no one. if we all had that many kids each, our world would be in trouble. Bag it before you tag it for goodness sake.

what’s wrong with having a large amount of kids, as long as you have the means to provide for them, like jon and kate do. if having a lot of kids was going to ruin the world, it would have been so a century ago when most families had 10 or more children. get off the bitter bus.

Apparently Melissa you have never watched the show, so you would know that that is not the case with John & Kate. What I’m tired of is people making comments about things that have no knowledge of…..if you are going to comment on a show, at least watch it.

I heard the dogs area already gone…but I also heard Jon isn’t living at home right now, so who knows what is trued. I agree, though, Kate is too much a neat freak to get a dog- let alone TWO!!!! She just seems even more unhappy than usual.

oops…should say dog ARE already gone!

Why does this writer hate jon and kate so much? You can’t compare this couple in ANY way to the suleman nightmare. They are stable, married, employed, and run a tight ship raising these kids TOGETHER. Nobody supports them and they do a really good job. Their marital dynamic is their business…personally I think it works for them and they’re fine!

Actually Melissa, if you look at population statistics, our population is actually at a negative slope. So, although the population continues to increase, in coming years it will finally feel the effects of families having less offspring. It is already apparent in Japan. And since Americans now prefer to have less children (around 1 per couple), they are not replacing their numbers. And again, effects will be felt within generations.

Honestly? i think the reason why kate is gone and jon is at home is because all the media outlets want to talk to the mom and not the father. and guess what? if they want to keep being able to afford things like pure bred puppies (around $800 each and that’s not including the rest of the dog expenses) and a huge house and feeding and clothing eight children, Jon & Kate have to go to whoever will pay them(ie, kate)to show up. They make money from the show but they also make a hell of a lot off these talk shows/magazines/book deals they have. this is a working mother and father. they just work at being a family on tv. so yeah, i would qualify what she’s doing as a business trip and assume Jon’s okay with it. (besides, getting a break from Kate’s nuttiness and overwhelming Need To Clean is probably enjoyable for him, even with the Brood)

Not all people with a large amount of kids are like Nadya Suleman. I come from a family with six kid and I love watching Jon & Kate! They were prepared to take care of their children and make due by themselves without taking childcare and massive amount of tax dollars like the Suleman brood will. The Goslins only wanted three kids (The twins were first, Cara and Mady) and when they tried for ONE they ended up with six. Melissa, if you would watch an episode I’m sure that you would change your mind. They weren’t seeking fame or fortune like I think Suleman is. JON & KATE ROCK! I can only imagine all of the messes that the dogs are going to make! The pets are going to drive Kate NUTS! I’m sure that the kids are going to love the dogs.

The only dog on that show is Kate. PLEASE…someone…can animal control and euthanize her.

  • carole

how can you say they’re not seeking fame or fortune – they have a reality series that stars their children.

  • doreen

I think it was awful idea to get those dogs, I cannot believe they picked up that poor puppy after surgery and let him run in the back yard. Jon kept saying nothing he could do, heck did he ever hear of taking a dog out on a leash.

Pets supply a family with love but they also assist with instilling responsibility of children. I have 2 children and 2 dogs. Having the dogs serves us with wonderful companionship as well as my children with learning how to take care of something (and someone) other than themselves. There is always strife in life, but when the strife is a lovable pet, it makes a person happier. The only mistake that the Gosslins made is that they put the dogs in the kids play room. They might think of organizing the downstairs differently.

I’m tired of these shows that glorify over-reproduction. These families are just leaching off the rest of us. Take them all off the air please.

First off, it is not anybody business how many kids people have as long as people can take care of them and not have to have their hands out for the rest of us to foot the bill. Second, I love Jon and Kate and all their kids. The kids are happy and they are taken care of them. I have never seen them with their hands out asking for money. I’m a single parent and when I was low on money I went and got a part-time job, not run to the nearest social services with my hand out asking for money. There are people out there that actually have a lot of childred and (gasp) take care of them!!
