Justin Timberlake: a new talk-show guest champ?

Categories: Music, Television

The sole pure shining moment of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was Justin Timberlake’s appearance. (Read my review of the entire premiere show here.)

Over the years, Letterman has had Bill Murray, Steve Martin, and Bonnie Hunt; Craig Ferguson has Jim Parsons (really: The Big Bang Theory star kills every time he’s on), and now add to the list of sure-fire guest-appearances Mr. T-lake. Just check out his easy banter and his John Mayer and Michael McDonald impersonations:

And, oh yeah: That MTV game/reality/punk’d-ish show he brought a clip of looked pretty amusing.

Do you agree about Justin? He’s not at Murray/Martin level yet, but the guy’s a charmer, don’t you think?

More on Jimmy Fallon:

Jimmy Fallon: Let’s hear it for an ultra-ordinary guy!

I worked on the show Timberlake was promoting, it should be really good! They shot all around the country in major cities.

Justin is incredibly awesome. I must agree!!

  • dashiki

I would have rather watched Timberlake and Fallon make out.

  • Cherie

Justin Timberlake is multi-talented with many facets to his personality. I’m not in his generation, as I’m the generation of Clapton and such, and yet he appeals to me. Fallon on the other hand was brilliant last night. Reminds me of the beginning of Letterman’s career.

Jimmy Fallon is a waste of air time. outside of a few minor peaks the show was a bore. The most positive thing that can be said is that Fallon was better than O’Brian.

  • Christy

That was a great clip. VERY entertaining. Timberlake is quite talented (and I’m not particularly a fan of his).

  • TalkofFame

That Michael McDonald impersonation was the ultimate – well done JT!

  • Janice

No, I don’t think he is a “charmer”. I have never understood his popularity.

Timberlake was once on the Mickey Mouse Club. He’s pretty much used to comedic acting.

DMR: Fallon better than Conan??!! You should see a doctor.

  • Matt

If you all want to see a bad debut. I suggest you all go on Youtube and check out Conan O’Brien’s first show. Talk about cringe inducing. I think Fallon did alright for a first show.

Totally agree with the assessment of Fallon’s premiere night. A little awkward at times, I thought he could’ve done much better with the DeNiro interview. Timberlake was hilarious and they had good banter.

  • Pat

He is also probably the best Saturday Night Live host I’ve seen in a long time.

  • userious?

fallon sucked! that sort of earnestness and desperateness deserves a kick in the face. deniro and van morrison were also good.
    the roots: good.
fallon interupting to show clips of himself and tell inane stories about himself: lame.
also, is it a damn variety show or a talk show. they tried to make it to damn “spectacular” the first time out. but to reiterate, fallon sucked as a host. big time.

It is said that he is fond of online dating thing, his profile was seen at the millionaire & celebrity dating club____MillionaireLoving. C O M____ recently.

  • BOSTON

LOL! Justin’s always a good sport! He looked great last night, too! Fallon & Timberlake together are awesome!

  • Missy

I think Jimmy did a great job!! Could tell he was nervous. I’m not aware of any show that starts out without kinks. They will all get worked out in time.

  • rw

Conan O’brian is a genuinely funny man. Mr. Fallon is not, nor has he ever been funny. The fact that NBC has given him this job, validates all the jokes that Jay Leno makes about NBC.

  • Ellen

How is it that JT STILL looks like he’s about 12?
I think if the interview earlier this week is anything to go by, we can add David Boreanaz to Ferguson’s chat show heroes. That was ace.

  • Mary

Nobody’s more amused by Justin Timberlake than Justin Timberlake.

  • mojo jojo

justin should take over jimmy’s spot. seriously. justin has more personality in his little pinky than jimmy. lol

  • andrew

fallon wasnt bad. He needs to work on his presentation during his monologue, needs to speak more clearer, and he needs to control his sweating but other than that it was good. better than conans first appearance….remember Conan has been doing it for 10+ years so let’s not compare the two yet.
The opening was funny w/ Conan

  • andrew

I actually found Timberlakes impersonations a little annoying

  • hal

Timberlake is a talentless twink who wouldn’t be famous or even have a record deal had he come along in the days before mtv.

  • No Name

JT was great, he really was the highlight of the show. I think people don’t understand how difficult it can be to be natural, funny, and comfortable on a talk show. Fallon did a great job for his first show.

    1st Show Report Card Grade – F+
Jimmy – you didn’t have the goods. You were really bad. Deniro looked like he was asking himself “Why”. Justin was not good, more silly than anything. Van Morison was not the saving grace we had hoped for. The Roots: Jury is out on their comfort level.
We hated Conan his first 3 years and now think he’s the best.
Not sure if NBC has 3 years to give – again…
But… We’ll hang with you JF, for a little bit – now grow up!

  • Tim S

The ex-Spice Boy & the ex-Unfunny SNL Castmember make for truly boring TV. Cancellation can’t come soon enough.

  • Sally

I could not get past the Fallon commentary. I was really hoping for something entertaining. Fallon fell flat.
