'Privileged': Tonight's your last chance to boost the ratings

Categories: Uncategorized

The first season of Privileged concludes tonight, and I’m pulling for this beguiling little show to survive for a second one. Far be it from me to encourage you not to watch the President’s address to Congress tonight at the same time, 9 EST, but the bright escapism of Privileged, starring the charming, smart JoAnna Garcia, is nourishing comfort-food during the hard times the President will be addressing this evening. The special guest star tonight is Kathy Griffin–on Privileged, not in Congress, that is, though with her reported $2 million book deal, Griffin might as well show up there, too, and donate some of her advance to the ailing economy, don’t you think?

Privileged is one of the few freshman series that’s gotten better since it premiered. It doesn’t help its chances for survival, however, that the low-rated Privileged lives on the CW, where it’s overshadowed by its more-hyped lead-in, 90210. If the CW wants to keep moving in the direction of hip/cult-y/retro, as its nighttime soaps Gossip Girl and 90210 suggest, Privileged, with its unironic heart and sweetness beneath the tart jokes, may not fit into the network’s future.

What do you think? Do you want this show to return? Will you be watching tonight?

I love Priveliged and will be watching, as I have all season. Unfortunately, I’m not a Nielsen house, so my watching won’t be counted and will not help one of my favorite shows survive. The way TV ratings are calculated has got to be fixed so we don’t keep losing wonderful shows like Privileged and Pushing Daisies.

its like the oc over and over again

This is my number 1 DVR show. I hate watching shows live, but I will tonight…if it will help.

  • DeDe

I love this show. My daughter and I watch it together. It’s sad that the season finale is going up again the State of the Union. That does not bode well for the ratings, I’m afraid. I really hope it comes back for a second season. I love Joanna Garcia!! But I must admit, Marco is my favorite character.

Unless your readers are Nielson Ratings housholds, what affect will their watching the show have on the ratings?

  • Karen

Too bad it’s preempted in Chicago for a Bulls game. (and be aired at at ungodly hour)

  • NashVegas

I adore this show. The characters are well-drawn, the actors are likeable, and the dialogue is sharp.

  • Laura

I love this show and find it WAY more enjoyable than 90210. I really hope it comes back.

  • Jenny

This is a great show. Its smart and sweet. As a Gilmore Girls fan, this is the next best thing for me on TV right now.

  • laura

I love this show!!!! Really really love it!
    I HATE 90210!

  • Melanie

I’m definately going to be watching. Do we really need to watch the President tonight when he seems to have a press conference every day?

  • ds

Yes, I’ll be watching, with the hope the CW will grant it a second season with or without it being a ratings hit tonight. The fact that it is the highest quality show they have is reason enough. Networks do not give great shows a chance to catch on with viewers and it’s a lot harder now than it used to be, what with shorter seasons equalling more reruns, various strikes and cable. Thank goodness that wasn’t always the case, or we would never have had shows like Seinfeld or Cheers.

  • Nancy

My daughters and I love the show, look forward to it each week and watch it together. Please CW bring it back!

  • Not a Nielsen

That’s always so cute, when industry reporters pretend that ratings actually reflect the gross count of bodies watching. If everybody with a box watches the Obama speech, and literally every other person in the country watches “Privileged,” does that help the show?

  • Paula

I loved this show. But I’m overseas, so I cant watch it to give my support in the ratings. Please save Privileged!

  • Tex

Love the show, bring it back next season!

  • Courtney

As an overseas watcher, I diligently download every episode Wednesday mornings. Maybe if the CW went online and saw how many people illegally download episodes of this show…they’d reconsider (and not press chargers)

  • Ace

I despise Kathy Griffin and that is just the nicest way I can put it. She is not funny and extremely annoying. So I am disappointed in the stunt casting. But I really like Privileged and hope we get a Season 2, so I’ll still watch. Hopefully Kathy will get minimal screen time.

  • Denise

I love privileged. Please watch this show!!!!

  • Jamie

I LOVE PRIVILEGED!!!!! CW KEEP THIS AMAZING SHOW!

  • Jesse

Privileged is definitely a keeper. Awesome acting, great characters and a good premise. Keep this show on the air please!!

  • Emily

Privileged is 9 MILLION times more clever and fun and sexy and intriguing than 90210–oh, and it’s not completely predictable like 90210 either!! I’d rather watch these characters than whiney Annie and b*tchy Naomi ANY time! KEEP PRIVILEGED!!!!!

  • Dee

“Unless your readers are Nielson Ratings housholds, what affect will their watching the show have on the ratings?”
Unfortunately, this is a good point. The Nielsen system is stupidly outdated yet it still has such a huge impact on the fates of great shows like Privileged (and, like someone mentioned, Pushing Daisies – which is still painful to even think about). I’ll just cross my fingers in hoping that this show will see a 2nd season.

  • Phil

I have to admit, the man candy on this show outshines the dudes of 90210. Even Marco’s hubby-to-be, Keith is a hottie! And I hope to see more of Robert Buckley at Will’s new place of employment, since we’re uncertain if his OTHER show, where he is shirtless 90% of the time (LIPSTICK JUNGLE), is returning to NBC in the Fall or not….

  • Jamie B.

I love this show! It’s funny and it has heart. Joanna Garcia is perfect (although not gonna lie, her character irks me at times. i mean, why fight with Will? come on now!) and the sisters are so well-cast. The way their characters are now switching sides is very well done! PLEASE CW, don’t cancel this show!!!!!

  • Boiler

Great show and hope the cw smart enough to bring it back. However they dont seem to be. In Chicago a Bulls game pushing it to late night.

  • Joumana

I will definetly be watching. JoAnna Garcia is a wonderful actress. She headlines a wonderful cast, that deserves to stay on the air for as long as possible. Please don’t cancel it.

  • EM in MS

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. I will be so sad if it’s canceled. Joanna Garcia is a genious along with a fabulous cast!

  • Joann

I absolutely LOVE this show and would be SOOOO disappointed if TPTB at the CW don’t renew it for a second season. I know the numbers haven’t been great, but still it is drawing viewers who are passionate and loyal. And it is so much better than the poorly reinvented 90210.

  • Debs

I absolutely love this show, it is the show that we wait all week for and if it doesn’t come back for another season i will be so upset. I think this show could be around for a long time and hope that it is.
