'Two and a Half Men': Dumb or smart? 'Family Guy' says 'dumb'

I have never found TWO & A HALF MEN humorous but I have to give props to First Neo-Feminist Gretchen Cryer’s son. I still have the soundtrack of I’M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER & TAKING IT ON THE ROAD and I have to say it still rocks as the first Feminist Musical. Duckie may have been gay but he sticks by his girl, and how many people can say that? Jon Cryer rocks!

humour doesn’t have to be smart or clever in order to be funny. Sometimes people just want to laugh. Look at the Three Stooges. One of the dumbest kinds of comedy ever with 3 guys poking each other in the eye and just being general idiots. Yet it is considered a classic.

I think its funny — and as long as there continues to be a lack of comedies on television, people will watch it. It may not be a comedy in the realm of “Friends” or the “Cosby Show,” but its more true to the old genre than say “The Office,” or “30 Rock.”

The writers of Two and Half Men have really well crafted jokes however they’re the kind of jokes you wish you were witty enough to come up with when you were in 9th grade, which seems just about where all these characters seem to be psychically stuck in.

Most of the people who watch this show aren’t exactly the kind of people who read Entertainment Weekly. I know many people who love the show. I don’t particularly like it, but I must say that when I watch it with them it’s always enjoyable and I can see its charm. In fact, maybe the reason I dislike it is because EVERY critic says how horrible it is. But I hope I’m not that much of a sheep.

I hate Two and a Half Men. I can’t believe it is on the same channel as the excellent How I Met Your Mother.

Seriously? Family Guy is criticizing a show for rendering it’s viewers brain dead? No matter how I feel about Two and a Half Men, even that show’s worst episode is twice as funny as the best episode of Family Guy, which is no more hilarious than the latest Jason Friedberg/Aaron Setzer movie. Come to think of it, Family Guy/American Dad is essentially the same thing as those movies, yet the bright colors and sped up animation seem to appeal to the “stimulated” viewers, which explains it’s success on late nights and on Adult Swim.
So, my take? Two and a Half Men is smarter than anything that Seth McFarlane could ever conceive. How’s that for EW’s smartest person in television? When I heard that, it reminded me of when The Critic revealed “The Smartest Man in Hollywood.”

Two and a Half Men is hilarious. Probably one of the funniest half hour sitcoms on tv today along with Big Bang.

Two and a Half Men is the funniest show on TV today – a fact that means that it is much better than people give it credit for, as well as being a statement on the state of TV comedy today. Like all of the best comedies, the show creates strong characters, and half of the fun that fans enjoy is predicting how these well known characters will react to situations. To those who hate the show, this is predictability and lazy writing, to those who love it, its a tribute to the strong characters.
I also think that, while everyone focuses on Cryer and Sheen, the child (now teen) character, Jake, is very important to the show. Without him, the show loses much of it’s grounding, which comes from a need to not have Cryer and Sheen go over the top since they are responsible for Jake.
Finally, I think the housekeeper, Berta is hillarious. Her running commentary on the actions going on in the house is always entertaining.

Can it be dumb and funny? :D Because that’s what it is. 20 mins of brainless humour, unlike CBS’s other comedies (and I speak, of course, of the brilliant How I Met Your Mother and The BigBang Theory)

One additional point…you can have a funny, well-written show about people acting juvenile. While I’m not comparing Two and a Half Men to All in the Family, the similarity is in the fact that both shows had strong characters playing extreme ends of the spectrum (Archie was a bigot, Charlie is a lying womanizer).

What Family Guy just did, what EW is doing currently is giving this show even more press. The fact of the matter is Two and a Half Men is simple, not over indulging in itself or hampered by trying to keep up with all the other shows around it. It knows what types of jokes it delivers and it’s goofy fun period. Maybe the key to it’s popularity is that it does not take itself or the audience too seriously. With all that is going on around us to be horrified about, Men just asks you to take a half hour and not think too much about anything. I think it’s the right show for this time and kinda put a finger in the face off all the critics and television that over thinks every last move. Sometimes it’s simply okay to be goofy. If there is ever any solid proof of that, it’s Two and a Half Men. ABC, NBC and Fox would give their first born to have this show and any criticism of it is based on that only. The audience has spoken and this show gets the ratings to back itself up.

I don’t get the love for Two and a Half Men…Big Bang and HIMYM are soooo much better

Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother are better shows. I think Two and a Half Men may just have a better time slot.

Fukk critics. I don’t particularly like this show. Only Charlie Sheen is funny on the show. All the other characters are lame and unfunny, especially that lameass kid, that can’t deliver his lines comedically if his life depended on it (sigh, they all grow up and become bland). But Charlie Sheen is funny enough to make the show work, although it’s just not funny enough for me to watch regularly. I don’t need critics to make me like or dislike a show. If I did, I It’s Always sunny in Philadelphia wouldn’t be my favorite show. EW gave that show a D for crying out loud, so it shows what they know. The TV reviewers are basically bloggers anyway, so their opinions mean even less.
