Smutty indeed, but so creatively smutty in my opinion. It has now become my tv guilty pleasure. Loud guffaws, followed by nervous looking around to see who noticed. No doubt I will have the boxed set in my nursing home room–next to The Simpsons collection, of course.
your right.. for me tv is only entertaining.. you get smart from reading and homework.. the occational lesson.. if your watching tv to get smarter you have bigger problems.. ps, ‘grammer and errors’
It’s really not THAT bad. But I just can’t stand “audience laughter.” It also baffles me why my parents and so many peoples parents and grandparents love this show. It’s so dirty. I don’t get it.
The performances are decent. The writing is consistent for what it is. For a laugh track sitcom it’s the best of the bunch. (currently on)
We’re spoilt here in the UK for quality sitcoms. Shows like the Inbetweeners, Peep Show and Pete Versus Life all bring something new and really highlight how generic and lazy the majority of American sitcoms are. Not to mention these are actually funny. How this dross is so popular I have no idea. And as for Family Guy, as somebody else said – kettle, meet pot. South Park all the way.
heres a good episode of two and a half men,
canned line, laugh track, canned line, laugh track
two and a half men and how i met your mother are by far my two favorite sitcoms.truth is they are entertaining because they appeal to the average mans everyday problems and put them in a somewhat “brighter” light. (the new adventures of old christine is horrible btw).i must admit that family guy is also one of my favorites and it sort of gives me the dose of “cynism” and postmodern comedy that i look for nowadays. if we look past the socially or politically “incorrect” aspects of both family guy and 2 and a half men, it is pretty obvious that stewy and charly harper are two of the most intelligently constructed characters in sitcom history.
