Why should we accept this or not accept this Angie? Who appointed this guy (Phelps) a legal guardian of your child or role model for the universe? I know he is in the spotlight but that’s because he swims fast. His responsibilities are to who his sponsors are and to his team (country) only by his performance. There are guidelines set by his sports government that he must abide by and really that’s all he is responsible for. The fact that western society applied the tag of parent to everyone and anyone but parents under the sun is not his problem. Its yours and yours alone. People need to stop being so freaking lazy and do their jobs as parents. Tell your kids the dangers of drugs, try and observe your child for a little bit instead of letting the TV do it for you and then shut the hell up. Pretty please and thank you.
Michael Phelps is “paid” for endorsing products because of his prowess in the swimming pool. Michael tries to show that anything can be achieved by hard work. Michael won 8 gold medals for being able to swim faster than anyone on the planet. They don’t give out gold medals in an event called…sobriety.
Maybe they should…but I certainly don’t recall that event in the Olympics.
can’t see why anyone listens to Hasselbeck. she doesn’t listen or let anyone else talk on the show. can’t believe they don’t fire her. made me stop watching.

Its called being a nice person. People shouldn’t say things on blogs that they wouldn’t say to someone in real life. And the way some people on blogs comment, I would be really sad if they did speak to people like that in real life.
I have to say that it is interesting how people are saying that Phelps was paid by endorsers to stay “clean and sober”. Unless you were in the room when these contracts were signed, or are a representative of pepsi, I don’t think any of us can claim to know what the endorsers EXPECT of him
Further more to address the point of losing your job. Who cares? That’s a choice we all make at some point or another. If you make a choice based upon what Michael Phelps did you’re an idiot. If he loses sponsorship because of this and someone here has indicated he has, then fine. Why do we need to accept this or not accept it I ask again? It has zero to do with us.
Hasselbeck work’s full time at showbussiness. and yet talks like she’s home watching her kids instead of the nanies she hires. a non-mom with a ‘narrow minded’ large mouth.
Seriously, every time Elisabeth speaks I want to vomit. Her know-it-all attitude irritates the crap out of me. What Phelps does on his own time is his business but of COURSE she has something stupid to say about it. Who hasn’t tried smoking pot before! Big deal! It pisses me off that she thinks that because he smoked pot it will eventually lead him into also using performance enhancing drugs. Keep it real Elisabeth.
I’m a democrat, but…everyone has their opinions. You say she is crucifying Michael Phelps. Well the ew.com columnist who wrote this article is crucifying Elizabeth in his own way because he is very well aware that on these message boards people will beat down Elizabeth to a pulp and it makes him feel better. Look the View is called the view because people have different opinions. Just because you disagree with an opinion, which I do with Mrs. Hasselbeck, does not mean at every disagreement you have to publicly scrutinize and condemn her to hate threads on this website. It’s very childish and extremely Rosie O’Donnell like.
I can’t stand Elizabeth Hasselbeck, i have stopped watching The View as she is so loud and obnoxious and doesn’t let anyone else talk as she knows it all… She passes all her judgement on everyone else, as if her way and views are yhe only way. Barbara Walters should reevaluate keeping her on The View as she has lost me as a viewer and i am sure many others.
