Elisabeth Hasselbeck is turning Michael Phelps into her own personal crusade: This morning on The View, she started hammering away at the alleged-bong-hitting Olympic star for his "illegal action," saying his example "takes the wind out of any mom trying to teach her children" good values.
"If he wasn’t Michael Phelps, wouldn’t he be in jail?" she added.
"No," said Whoopi Goldberg, "because [if he wasn't Phelps], his picture wouldn’t have been in the newspapers!"
Hasselbeck seemed somewhat comforted when Barbara Walters told the panel that she knew of a speakers bureau that had cancelled "a few" of Phelps’ upcoming speaking engagements.
But I don’t think our Elisabeth is going to stop until this gold-medalled menace to society is under lock and key…

I wonder if her athletic hubby has told her to let this go. I betcha she’d be the kind of spiteful woman that would make him sleep on the couch for suggesting such a thing! I’d LOVE for Whoopi to ask her what her husband has had to say about this whole ordeal…
Wow, Ken Tucker you are obsessed with Ms. Hasselbeck. Two stories about her in just as many days? Get a grip and move on.
I read your first post on Monday about Elisabeth going after Phelps and then I actually watched it on TV. What a difference! Joy, Sherry AND Elisabeth condemned the actions of Phelps, yet you only reported on Hasselback’s comments. I can’t wait to see what was said by EVERYONE on the The View today.
She needs to get off her high horse. He’s a young guy in his early 20′s who’s doing some partying. Big deal. Let the guy alone and don’t give me that crap about being a role model. Who says Olympic glory means you have to be a saint there on after. Leave the guy alone. Also, up yours to you Brits for printing it in the first place
Elisabeth is a spoiled, privileged and opinionated person. I personally can’t stand her and rarely agree with anything she has to say.
Elisabeth Is so out of touch. The fact that she thought that he was getting special treatment because he was michael phelps is just stupid. If he wasn’t michael phelps no one would even care. As a parent Elisabeth should focusing on teaching her children values and setting examples. She shouldn’t rely on an athlete to do that.
Here’s the thing, there’s no way to prove an actual criminal case against Michael. In his statement, he didn’t admit to smoking pot, he just said he was sorry for what he did. The photo only shows him smoking out of a “water pipe.” There’s no way anyone can prove what was actually in the pipe. Leave the kid alone, he’s a 24 yeah old kid who experimented with pot and got caught, according to a survey, 42% of Americans have toked up at least once. Get off your high horse and get a life.
I don’t see how anyone could sleep with this lady. Same to Anne Couter
She’s just trying to get every single athlete in America locked up in prison, so that her bench-sitting, do-nothing, multi-million-dollar-collecting husband can finally play a down in the NFL.
ugh, will she please get over this? Young people occasionally do drugs. Big deal….
I guess since the election is over she needs SOMETHING…
This is insane. Yeah, Michael Phelps needs to be in prison! If he needs to be in prison, so does practically every college student in America! Didn’t her precious former President Bush stay out of prison for DUI just because his name was Bush??
also, who ever heard of going to jail for taking a hit of weed? has that ever happened? i know in colorado a possession of marijuana ticket is like a speeding ticket. you go in later or you just pay the $75 or so fine.
EH needs to smoke a joint and called a day.
Here’s the thing. She says it “takes the wind out of any mom trying to teach her children” good values. That’s because THOSE VALUES ARE BUNK. Michael Phelps *proves* that smoking weed doesn’t make you unmotivated. Lance Armstrong drinks when he’s not training, has a good time, no one cares – rightly so. Phelps smokes weed and it’s a big deal – what nonsense! What hypocrisy!
Marijuana should be LEGAL for adults under the same rules as alcohol. As more and more high-functioning people either come out of the weed-smoking closet or get outed like poor MP, the whole basis of the argument that there’s anything wrong with it gets weaker and weaker.
Michael Phelps has nothing to apologize for, but I don’t blame him for doing so, to cover his @$$ in this idiotic, puritanical frenzy.
All you so-called “conservatives” who insist on regulating the personal behavior of adults need to realize it’s none of your business. Stop whining that pot smokers undermine the LIES you are telling your kids.
Enough is enough, on a personal level i really dont think it should be that big of a deal. however, it upsets me greatly to see that this man who gets paid millions can smoke pot and get away with, whereas at my job, if i woudl get caught doing drugs i’d be fired. i’d imagine most americans would be. its quite the flaw in the system so i guess if i woudl loose my job he should loose his job. there’s no reason for special treatment here. its very upsetting to watch celebrities get away with this kind of behavior whereas hard working americans would loose jobs over something like this.
