Pretty lame Steve Martin-hosted edition of Saturday Night Live last night, I thought. Read the full post.

Agree with JJ on Steve Martin song. The man’s banjo playing is great, and I usually enjoy it – but that song was a monstrosity – was it for a kid’s album or what? Goofy late-for-school lines, forced rhymes, etc. Ugh. Melody (what there was of it) was subservient to the bluegrass chops the song wanted to showcase. Awful.

For the most part, pretty terrible show.
However “The Gun” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, so bright light there.
And I had never heard of Jason Mraz before watching him here, and I have immediately become a fan.

This episode was one SNL’s worst. Steve Martin said it was his 15th time hosting. Let’s hope it’s his last…He didn’t contribute anything funny to the show and only appeared to promote his upcoming Pink Panther movie. If it weren’t for Jason Mraz’s perfect performance, the show would have been a total waste. Mraz is a great performer and NO, he wasn’t lip-synching. He has a rare talent and hopefully more people will come to recognize him. SNL should require all musical guests to perform live. It separates the real talent from the fakes.

yeah…. the show totally sucked, wasted my dvr space. The only good things were: Abby Elliot, breaking out as someone to watch… Jason Mraz… and the end. yikes. Funny considering the few episodes before have been some of the funniest I’ve seen in years… what happened?

Good call! Definite highlight. Also Fred Armisen as David Patterson and “The Gun” skit. What hope is there for the show if a Steve Martin hosted Saturday Night Live isn’t that funny???

The episode was king of wierd… but, was it just me or did Jason Mraz look stones out of his mind? His jaw kept going back and fort and his eyes were super dilated!

The sketch with Kristin Wiig as that bizarre wife is actually much funnier the second time around. I was at the dress rehearsal and didn’t find it all that hilarious. Then I watched the live show on TV, and it slayed me! I don’t know, it might grow on you. I don’t think it was very similar to her other characters, which vary greatly. From travel writer Judy Grimes to Target Lady to Penelope to Sue (the woman who loves surprises) to Suze Orman, you CANNOT tell me her characters are all the same.

Jolie can’t even save her own career. Give her 5 more yrs and she can replace Jack Skelington in the live action remake of A Nightmare Before Christmas.

I haven’t tuned in for years but came back to see Jason Mraz and the show had a few moments that were amusing but not any laugh out moments.
Weekend Update was pretty flat. Need to find a new host.

I was at the show and can confirm that Jason Mraz was NOT lipsyncing. That was all natural baby. He’s amazing! Steve seemed to be going through the motions. It was still awesome to be there though.

SNL only got funny after my third glass of wine.

To Ian, are you a Jolie hater, and a Jennifer lover? We’re talking about the show, man! Get a grip. SNL hasn’t been very funny lately.
