Patrick Swayze: 'I'll be here, or I won't'

Jan 8, 2009, 09:01 AM | by Ken Tucker

Categories: Television

Normally, I avoid Barbara Walters celebrity interviews like the timorous suck-ups they usually are. But I tuned in last night, because I've found admirable many of the blunt, articulate statements Patrick Swayze has made about his stage-4 pancreatic cancer. True to form last night, Swayze scoffed at trite cliches about false comfort, saying, "the cancer isn't going away." Avoiding all self-pity, he declared, "I'm not going to chase [the idea of] 'staying alive.'"

With Walters, Swayze used the clearest language possible about having a fatal disease. He spoke with educational precision about his symptoms and his courses of treatment. When Walters tried a well-meaning, mawkish sign-off, saying she'd be back in a couple of years to do another interview with him, Swayze didn't blink: "I'll be here, or I won't." All this, plus you've gotta love a guy who's taken to quoting a George Clinton funk lyric as a personal credo: "S---, god---, get off your a-- and dance." Dirty dancer? No: admirable, enduring dancer.

Daniel Havranek Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 02:22 PM EST

Dear Patrik Swayze,
Allow me to introduce myself.- My name is Dr.med. Daniel Havranek, I am a surgeon and doctor of physiotherapy. I am sorry my English isn´t so good as I need, I prefer to speak Italy.
I am not an expert of treatment of oncologic diseases, but many years I am engage in promotive therapy – nature curing.
The true is that I can´t promise you 100 % effectiveness, but I really believe that this treatment functions and can help you. This is my own experience.
It depends only on you if you will try it.

Cancer:
During the treatment of cancer is important to become aware that this disease is disease of the whole human organism and in this case the treatment would be global.

1) Special medical cure. I think that you have one.
2) Special psychotherapy. This cure is really very important, because everybody who is ill, who has a cancer is standing against the fear, the panic, the despair, lack of spirit, against the malice and the anger. And this man is alone.
a. Everybody has many questions. Why me. Why. What is possible to do.
b. Everybody believes doctors and everything lets on them. He lets the day take care of itself.
c. Special psychotherapy of family.
3) Physiotherapy and breathing excercises.
a. Indispensable part of the cure is motion. A few times a day. The best is motion in the mountains or near the sea, where is the clean air.
b. Another type of cure is breathing the pure oxygen. It is oxygenotherapy. Try it.

4) Natur curing:

 Coenzym Q, It is important to prefer always liquid or oleic form, no tablets, the best is combination of Coenzym Q with vitamin E which is protects the structure of Coenzym Q. Use only the natural form of this product.
o The daily dose is 90mg
 Nature Beta carotene, for regeneration of cells, 25 000 i.u./ day
 Proteolytic enzyme, Wobenzym in Europe,
o Two times daily 12 tbl
 Proteolytic enzyme for treatment of cancers, Wobemucos,
o For you is better to use Wobemucos, very important!!!
 The cartilage of shark. This cartilage can block grow up of tumors.
o Use 1g for 1 kg of weight, divided on 3 doses during a day
 Vitamin A, use only emulsifier´s form, only natural type. It is a very effective antioxidant.
o 40 days use 50 000 i.u./day
o Next reduce dose 25 000 i.u./day
o Use 3 monthes and then repeat every half of year.
 Vitamin E, use only emulsifier´s form, only natural type. It is a very effective antioxidant, too.
o 1 000 i.u./day
 B-complex, is essential for cells metabolism,
o 100 mg/day
 Vitamin C, It is better to aplicate them in injection form, otherwise in ester form, for example on base Esteru C with Pycnogenol
o Use 1 000-5 000 mg a day
 L-lyzin, supports immunity and affects against grow up of tumors. Very important!!!
o 500 mg a day on an empty stomach, don´t drink the milk!!,
o Use 3 monthes and then leave out other 3 monthes,
 SynBio, it is a composition of bacterial strains colonize the intestinum crassum, supports immunity, improves digestion.
o 1 tbl daily during 3 monthes, then leaves out 3 monthes and use again other 3 monthes

Food supplements:
 Brewer´s yeast, 1 spoon dailly
 Mushroom maitake,
o Blocks grow up and development of tumors
 Mushroom shitake a reishi,
o Stimulates immunity and blocks their grow up.

System of natural chemotherapy, without side effects, but it is necessary to know actual laboratory values and etc.

Alimentation:

 It is possible to prepare the personal dining structure of food.
 It is necessary to use vegetable, fruits, fishes, everything only as Bioproducts, without substances.

I wish you Good luck.

President Reagan had to go to Germany to cure his cancer many years ago.  That cure, hyperthermia, is still available (amazingly) in spite of all the greedy, selfish cancer industry in Germany can do to hide or get rid of it.  Now that his cancer has spread to his lungs, Patrick Swazi is a dead man walking unless he goes to one of the cancer clinics in Germany offering hyperthermia as a cure for his cancer.  Here is the address of one of them on the Internet----www.hyperthermia-center-hanover.com.  There are six or so others safely hidden away in Deutchland.  Information about them is available in a book one can purchase here in this country but, unfortunately, not in my possession.

An even better cure may be that offered by Dr. Tulio Simoncini (www.cancerfungus.com), an Italian oncologist of rare genius.

Suzanne Somers and Farrah Faucet Majors were both entirely cured of their cancers in European cancer clinics, and I am sure they would be happy to share their knowledge of cancer cures with Patrick were he to consult with them.  And he might actually believe them.

The best cancer clinics are all outside the US because the American cancer establishment will not allow anything effective to compete with them here for monetary reasons.  Few people can conceive of the fact that the cancer industry would rather see 500,000 Americans die horribly from cancer annually than to loose their multi-million dollar business selling quack cancer cures that rarely work, chemotherapy and radiation.

Of course, I cannot get this information to Mr. Swazie, but perhaps you have contacts who can.  He is a fellow Texan, and I am a former professional actor, singer and dancer who would like to see him recover entirely from this cancer as I'm sure would you.

Were he to take the correct course of action, he could lead a large number of Hollywood types and others with cancer to a place of perfect health, but it will take an unusual kind and degree of courage to do so.  He will have to turn his back on his friends in the cancer establishment who, unbeknownst to him, are actually killing him (is it murder?) even now as you read this.

dear people who are talking against god think they know what the bible means and think we are perfect we arent we are just forgiven and people who have asked what he needs to be forgave for is if he isnt right with god he will lift his eyes in the pits of hell and will burn forever and we dont want that to happen to us or even him

derrick Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 08:03 PM EST

us christians cant save him but god can and he might get better if he had the blood of jesus christ in his heart and because god healed my grandpa from his cancer and if he doesnt get saved he could go to hell if he isnt right with god and burn forever and ever and it never ends god bless you patrick and everybody else

bootsycolumbia Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 11:52 PM EST

Would all you so-called Christians please keep your evangelizing to yourselves. You have no idea what Patrick Swayze's beliefs are and no right to try and "save" him. It's the height of arrogance to believe that you are in a position to "save" anyone. Try praying for the person and leave it at that. Leave your evangelizing for another time.

DLT Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:38 PM EST

Joe and Oy... will you marry me?? This is a horrible thing to happen to anyone, and however PS or anyone else who is suffering gets thru each day is his own business. Like Crash told Annie in Bull Durham, if you believe that you're winning because you're getting "some" or not geting "some" than you ARE.

Kay Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:16 PM EST

Barbara Walters did a great job interviewing Patrick and his wife. I never felt she asked any wrong questions, but got to the heart of the matter and presented an interview most of us could relate to, even if we are not in that circumstance. I wish the best to Patrick and Lisa. No one knows why certain people get cancer and others do not, why some people that have never smoked get lung cancer and die? Why did my brother age 4 suffer and die because of a brain stem tumor-cancer from age 1 until he died 3 days before his 4th birthday? We do not know the answer to this question, but must continue to live and do the best we can. I don't think at a time like this anyone should beat up on Patrick for smoking, what a terrific inspiring man he is in the face of the battle he is fighting, a battle he is fighting with dignity and strength. Personally, I loved the interview and was inspired by it. Who knows, maybe Patrick will be the rare person that actually beats this illness, I would think if anyone can it would be him. But, we should all be thankful he is willing to put his cancer battle out for all to see, it's drawing attention to the plight of people suffering with pancreatic cancer and cancer in general. Thankyou Patrick, your fans are rooting for you and your wife.

A CHILD OF GOD Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:15 PM EST

WE LOVE YOU PATRICK... BUT PEOPLE THERE IS A GOD AND HE IS COMING SOON AND CAN HEAL THE SICK. IT SAD THAT HE DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE ONE WHO CREATED HIM.PRAYER DOES WORK.I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

DebiMore Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 10:35 PM EST

I did watch the interview last night. My husband and I have been fans for years. That was the most moving interview I've ever seen. I read all of these messages filled with pithy crap, and it makes me angry. Patrick said he thinks of his father as his guardian angel, so obviously he has some belief in a higher power, he just happened to mention that NO ONE knows what's on the other side. And we don't.

He has stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has already metastized to his liver. There is no cure. I think he was being honest and optimistic. As for his smoking, well, quitting at this point would be kind of like putting the horse in the barn after it's burnt down. There really isn't much point. I'm a smoker, I know what pleasure I get from the habit. I wouldn't worry about quitting at this point, either. Let it be a lesson to your kids, but shame on you all for judging something that you obviously know little about.

My father is living with colon cancer, metasized to his liver.

I lost my identical twin sister on Thanksgiving day 11/27/08 to PC at age 49, both my parents also died of cancer, colon and lung. I did not see the day to day struggle in them that I saw in my sister. This is such a terrible cancer. She had the whipple and chemo and radiation and lasted 8 1/2 months, the only positive thing that i can say is we did have that time to say good bye and we lived life to its fullest until the end. She was so strong and brave just like Patrick, if you haven't been around someone with this disease you just can not imagine what they go through. Her biggest wish was just to feel normal for one day. She was strong until the end and I find comfort in the fact that she is no longer in pain and I know she is my guardian angel.

Kathy V Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:30 PM EST

I watched the Barbara Walters Special last evening w/ Patrick Swayze and his wife and was just blown away by this man and his courage. God Bless you Patrick and here is to Barbara Walters coming out to see you again!

Renee Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:15 PM EST

I watched the interview with Patrick Swayze and was so amazed by this man. I have been a fan for years and knew that he was a very talented actor and dancer, but the determination he has was luminating off of him during the interview. The love he and his wife exude for eachother is amazing. She was asked if she had thought about life without him and it broke my heart, but then I thought, you know most people never have a love like that in their life and because of their love for one another she will be able to go on, it will be one tuff struggle, but I am sure he will be her "guardian angel" and will just as his father is his "guardian angel". Patrick you are in my prayers and I hope you how many lives you have touched, not just through you movies an dancing, but through you courage, determination and the show of amazing love between you and your wife. God Bless You!!!

Cat UK Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:13 PM EST

My husband died at the age of 37 of this cancer - his body was fit enough to fight it for 6 months following diagnosis but the cancer takes advantage of the young and is usually twice as aggressive. I have no belief in any divine power of any kind and never have done - if anyone survives this (and it's a 5% survival rate after 5 years) it's through extreme luck. My husband never smoked at all so we are looking into familial links as that's pretty much all it could have been - Patrick is doing pretty good I think and is way more pragmatic about his disease progression than my husband ever was and I think that's the best way. You get things sorted out before you go, get to say goodbye to people and tell them how much they meant to you etc. That's an amazing thing to be able to do, even if it is heartbreaking for your family.

Sally Avila Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:04 PM EST

After reading all the blogs regarding the P.S.interview I'm glad I didn't watch it. My husband passed away from P.C. 23 months ago. I took care of him
for 2 yrs. before he passed. It is a
horrible death sentence and I should
know after watching my husband in agony. This desease has been around a
lot longer than when Michel Landon was afflicted by it. Some of us may have it right now and have no symptoms
but as people who know about p.c.,
know that it goes undetected until it
is too late. My husband had it for a
year before he was diagnosed. To the
person that mentioned the Whipple pro-
cedure, didn't they tell you that all
the cancer cells were gone? Doesn't
everyone want a procedure along with
our annual physical if are at risk?

I live in an obscure area of northeast Los Angeles. 20 years ago I lived a couple of miles west, near Patrick & Lisa's ranch. My ex and I used to go trail riding in the area, and one time we happened to cross paths with them on the trail.

We had a very brief exchange with some genuinely warm neighborly "Hello"s and went our separate ways.

I always liked and respected the fact that Patrick and Lisa lived out here in the boonies, eschewing the glitz of the Hollywood Hills or Bel-Air or Malibu Colony. They preferred to be out here where it is quiet, surrounded by the Foothills and their beloved horses.

I'm pulling for you, Patrick. You're a good man. Don't let the Tabloid b@stards get you down.

Lynn from MN Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 04:55 PM EST

How sad for his family that he is so trite about smoking. He said the cancer won't go away; if he finds out he'll live more than five minutes, then he'll quit smoking. I understand about his priorities at this time but every cigarette he smokes cuts short his life. He's trying to get rid of the cancer, not add toxins into his body possibly making his system weaker. I wish he would choose to quit if only to spend those five minutes with his wife and family. My nine year old son watched the interview with me. I hope it helps to scare him from ever taking up this addiction.

Nonetheless, my prayers are with Patrick. I wish for him comfort and recovery.

Sharon Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 04:51 PM EST

Patrick is an amazing human being. I tuned in last night because I wanted to know the truth about his condition because I did not want to hear it from the tabloids. I am glad I did. Once again I was very impressed with this strong man. Not only is he physically strong but mentally and spiritually strong as well. I also wanted to understand more about the disease as my friend was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November and I felt a little uncomfortable talking about it to her. Patrick if you are reading this I just want you to know that you have done wonderful things in your life, like the forest you are building and the wonderful marriage you have cultivated and you have enriched others lives with your wonderful talent of acting and dancing. I am praying for you but remember like you said "we all are going to die" so don't waste your time thinking about the unknown "death" think about life -enjoy it fully with your soul mate at your side. Love ya. A long time fan!

Thanks to all who respond and I hope Patrick gets to read these.

I watched the special on Patrick Swayze last night. My dad died of cancer almost a year ago and the thoughts and feelings of Lisa and Patrick are so close to the ones i had with my dad. Keep up the good fight Patrick and remember that noone can tell you when your time is up. My dad lived 3 months longer than they give him, mind you he didn't take any treatment for it. I hope people become aware of the dreadful disease through your story too many people have been faced with this ugly beast.

I could not watch your interview with Barbara Walters. It was going to hit too close to home. My husband was diagnoised with lung cancer (inoperable). We have been married 49 years. We were dance instructors when we met and married, so dancing was a big part of our life. We have been through chemo/radiation (it did not do what we wanted it to do) however is did stabilize the cancer. He is now on a drug called Tarceva. I have asked all the same questions, why him, what can I do to help him (other than just be there). Thank you for giving us Dirty Dancing - it is my favorite movie of all time and hve seen it countless number of times. Keep fighting that's all we can do. If "IT" does come, may your Guardian Angel be there to guide you on your journey.

Hi Patrick, I know exactly what you are going through mate as i have lung cancer and only expect to live another 6 months, i am 43 , i am asking the same questions as you are and i am very angry but also frustrated that our goverment does not give a damn about people in my situation, keep positive mate coz like me you are going to beat it and live longer than the experts think, love all your films Patrick, good luck...Steve

Good for you. I hope you are cured but:
You may have been misdiagnosed.
You may not really be cured.
You lost your ability to spell and write correctly.
You do not describe your cure but do mix in some god talk.
Keep on lovin in Newfoundland.

Robin Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:28 PM EST

I was completely mesmerized and encouraged by Patrick's honesty. I however, was thoroughly disgusted by Barbara Walters asking his wife, Lisa, "How she was preparing for life without Patrick?" That was very insensitive and unecessary. I have every confidence that Lisa will be "Just fine" as Patrick commented to Barbara when she asked that question. Patrick, you are a credit to humankind. Hopefully you continue to fight the good fight. God Bless!

Amy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:24 PM EST

My heart went out to Patrick and his wife...it was hard to hold back tears. I have been a fan ever since the dirty dancing movie. I too have lost 2 family members to this terrible cancer. But what broke my heart more was that his hope was unknown after death. God is merciful and ready to forgive. I pray that Jesus is sending angels to minister faith to him and give him hope of eternal life. God bless the Swayze family. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16&17

Ches Gardner Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:20 PM EST

Dear Sir/ Madam; You do not know me nor have you more than likely ever heard of me.I would very much like to give Mr.Swayze information on his cancer and how he can cure this and help others see that the cure is out there but FDA. will not allow it to be used and it is through people like Mr. Swayze that God will use to expand
and make knowen this cure.I know you are saying , another nut case , but less than a year ago I had cancer, and I was scared to death when I was told by my doctor about it.I went into a indept study on cancer for nearly six months day and night. I went to my doctor and was told to have radiation and treatment as soon as possible.I did not take my doctors advice at that time, but started to treat the cancer myself.Today I feel So very healthy and full of energy that the doctors are finding it hard to believe that God has given us the cure and we can make the product ourselves. Please I ask you this in sincere honesty but if Mr. Swayze is at all interested in contacting me I would be more that happy to talk to him by phone or through his agents.I love in Newfoundland Canada, and my phone number is 709-388-0117 or you can E-Mail me at chesg@hotmail.com
A new age is about to suddenly appear

Unfortunately, many PC patients are not candidates for Cyberknife. I inquired for my husband and was told that the cancer was too far gone. There were so many avenues I tried, he tried a clinical trial, which may have been what helped him make it the 14 months, I only wish he didn't suffer as much as he did. All we can hope for is that they find a way to detect it earlier, help people live longer and ultimately, find a cure. The government needs to kick in more than 1% of its Cancer Research budget for this disease. THAT is something that Barbara should have mentioned. It shouldn't be up to us alone to make the donations. It is usually after you experience first hand through a loved one or friend that you are aware of how horrible it is and underfunded.

Bsbrm Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 02:29 PM EST

Having just lost my husband to Stage 4 cancer, I did tune in to last night's show. I am sorry -- the patient and the caregiver and the doctor can "fight" as hard as they want, but sometimes the cancer just takes over.

I hope that Patrick makes it -- truly I do. He has his age in his favor. However, an older person -- one in his 60s or 70s -- no matter how hard he "fights" sometimes loses the war.

I know that my husband would have chosen to live longer. He did not want to leave me or his children or grandson.

We are not famous actors, we do not have ranches or horses. We are just regular folks. Like millions of others who have "fought" just as hard. But, unfortunately, have lost this one.

I wonder why Barbara Walters did not ask Patrick Swayze about CyberKnife?

Here is a source most will agree is credible.

From Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School…

"More than 50,000 people, including Actor Patrick Swayze, have turned to it to treat hard to reach cancers. Cyberknife RadioSurgery uses real-time, image-guided robotics to accurately target tumors and lesions that may otherwise be untreatable.

"'This is a real breakthrough,' says says Dr. Anand Mahadevan, of the Keith C. Field Cyberknife Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the first center in New England to offer Cyberknife therapy.

Patrick Swayze is exactly the person of high moral character and fortitude that I always thought he was! And so is his wife! They are amazing people and I pray he is one of the 1% that make it!

pl66 Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 02:11 PM EST

I lost my husband one year ago today to PC. It was very difficult to watch the interview, and the timing quite ironic. His description of the pain you go through was right on, though my husband suffered for 14 months, I am very glad to see that Patrick is still able to function and work. It gives me hope that he will be able to keep going, perhaps til they can find a cure, or at least some help for people with this terrible disease to have quality of life. My heart goes out to them and can certainly identify with his wife, faced to come to terms with losing her soul mate and then having to live on. I did the same thing, was there for my husband, was strong for him and worried about dealing with how I would handle it after he was gone.

Preston Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 02:05 PM EST

Patrick Swayze held no punches in that Barbara Walters interview. He's going to fight this cancer. I think that some of the entertainment media wanted him to still have that youthful face so famous in Dirty Dancing. Hollywood likes to have their stars to remain so perfect and don't want any blemishes or wrinkles. That they should remain 25 or 27 all the time. It's not always the case. Life affects us in so many ways that disease will always arrive out of nowhere. So I commend Patrick for speaking out and shutting the naysayers up!

Chris Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 02:00 PM EST

I feel entirely for him and his family. I lost my own mother to this horrible disease a little over 2 years ago. She lasted 10 months after diagnosis which is actually considered to be a long time. After seeing what it did to her I would never wish this on my worst enemy.

God bless him..

Redeye Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:58 PM EST

To melbytoast -That is wonderful that your husband was able live with this-yes he is in the 1% group, and that is good news for him and your family!! My mother was not a candidate for a Whipple, but even though Randy Pauch (The Last Lecture) had one, he developed many tumors and went quickly. The EUS-Endoscop Ultrasound can see behind the stomach to see the Pancreas, but even if it is discovered early, I do not think much can be done. I will be taking this test every few years, even though it might not he hereditary from my mom. Hopefully, people can have some quality of life, but it is one of the worst forms of cancer. Please support The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. THANK YOU!!

BS Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:57 PM EST

Are you kidding? You didn't hear him mention prayer? We prayed for my 58 year old father for 7 horrible months and he was not "healed." He died and will never know his grandchildren. Why do you think your prayers were answered and ours weren't. Don't be so insensitive.

Nicky DUH! Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:52 PM EST

Peter Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:48 PM EST

If there was really a god (particularly one who gave a damn about anyone on earth) he would not have people sufferng from terminal illnesses or any deformity. It really comes down to people believing they are better deserving then others.

melbytoast Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:27 PM EST

I have always thought PS was terrific. My husband is in a 1% group of people who have had this cancer and lived. He has now gone 14 years with no kemo or radiation. He did have a "whipple" surgery but that was all. Prayer and a positive attitude do help. I didn't hear PS say anything about prayer but only watched the 1st half had to tape the rest. He did say he had a positive outlook and that is in his favor. I know we thought Michael Landon would beat it if anyone could. My best goes to PS in winning his battle.

to Redeye Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:27 PM EST

There are tests for it. Ultrasound, CT. Unfortunately by the time they find it, it is usually too late.

Redeye Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:23 PM EST

My mother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. She never smoked and was never in the hospital or had any severe illness for all of her 76 years. It is a terrible desease, and a devastating end. She tried her best, but it was so hard, and I wish Patrick Swayze all the best!
((Ironically, Patrick Swayze was one of her favorite actors-"Dirty Dancing", "Ghost"!!)) This is a fatal illness and there is no test for it. Even if it caught in the early stages, it is still fatal. Michael Landon, Pavarotti, and Randy Pauch (The Last Lecture) died from it. Please support The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer--THANK YOU!

Shorty Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:18 PM EST

My heart breaks for Patrick and his family. I intimately know the hell they're going through because I lost my grandmother to this disease a couple of years ago. Her attitude was much like his: accepting, brave, and dignified. My prayers go out to all the Swayzes.

nickyenemy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:17 PM EST

This is incredible, nicky, take your god pretentious crap some where else, i dont care who swayze is or what hes done, but hes dieing of pancreatic cancer and you sit there on your moral high horse talking down about him, are you crazy? you are probably a hypocrite like most christians, do you support the war? are you a fan of bush? what makes you think your going to heaven?? grow up, and wake up, the bible says not to judge other people, i guess you must of missed that part, those who cast the first stone huh? pathetic

Donna Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:16 PM EST

Great interview, real down to earth explanation of what he and Lisa are going through, brought a great sense of what a family really suffers through.

Liddy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:05 PM EST

This was a great interview. Patrick is tough as nails. If anybody can beat this thing, it's him. I was really inspired by his courage. And can I just say how refreshing it is to see that he's been married in Hollywood for 30+years? He and his wife still look genuinely in love. I'm truly inspired by him.

Jesus Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:45 PM EST

To Adam. Well said. I must go grab lunch now.

adam Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:42 PM EST

Apparently people like "Brian" always manage to skip the verse from the Gospel Of Matthew that suggests that you should take the log out of your own eye so that you can see to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Not to mention ALL the parts of the Bible that discuss humility and respect for others. As for Mr Swayze, he is clearly a brave man and a class act. ["Bravery" or "courage" being defined as standing firm in the face of fear, NOT as the absence of fear. Were there no fear, there would be no reason to need courage.]

To God Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:36 PM EST

Thank you. Your son, Jesus.

Science is not an attempt to answer questions, it actually HAS provided answers, answers that can be proven backwards and forwards. religion is a collection of fanchises with primary goal to obtain wealth and influence the masses. religion is a crutch for the weak and mindless, there is no way noah built an Ark with 2 of every species, and no way the world was created 4k years ago. here's a thought, go to the 700 club website or another crackpot forum for the "absolved of sin" and tell it to those who care. Patrick, baby, you are with the rest of us in our positive thoughts, which are more powerful than asking supernatural entities for miracles that never come.

cndn610 Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:31 PM EST

did I miss something? I don't think Patrick said anything about his religious beliefs. Is that our business anyway. Secondly, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on a Monday and died from a heart attack on Friday. Listening to PS made me thankful she didn't suffer from the cancer. I've always been so fearful of pancreatic cancer that my breast cancer diagnosis was a breeze to handle. His frank descriptions of the disease were amazing. I respect him for being so honest with all of us.

Free Thinker Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:26 PM EST

Poor Patrick, a nice man who truly deserves well wishes and positive thoughts. He will not be forgotten, and I think him especially classy in his stoic persona. He's not throwing himself a pity party or propping himself up with pseudo-christian slang like the insolent twits who seem to hover on this website. God/Allah/Buddah/Dirt/Xenu be with you Patrick! Love ya!

Jesus Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:24 PM EST

Sorry, Brian and Nicky. I stepped away for a bathroom break. Nicky, your name is not very biblical. Sorry, you can not spend eternity with me.

To Sanctomaniacs Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:22 PM EST

Boy are you gonna be surprised after you die when either 1. Nothing happens 2.If there's a actual God, he/she is from some other "the only" religion or 3. Your God rejects you for your prideful, sanctimonius beliefs. Quite frankly if there is a God and he/she is from your religion, I'll be happy to join the billions of people that are atheists, agnostics, and from all of the other religions of the world who aren't "saved". Better than listening to you for eternity.

Jesus Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:03 PM EST

I don't approve. And I really liked Patrick in Dirty Dancing. Him and Baby, grrrrrwl. I think I will give him a free pass. Nicky and Brian, I am not happy with you.

star Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:01 PM EST

OOPS. Somehow I stumbled into a Christian revival meeting. My bad. You folks stay here. I will go elsewhere.

Ken Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:01 PM EST

Anyone who thinks Science means nothing on a deathbed doesn't fully understand what Science is. Science isn't an contradiction of Religion, its complementary to it.
Don't believe that?
Science is a method of looking at the Universe--it an attempt to answer the questions that have answers.
Faith,on the other hand, is a belief in the intangible, and attempts to answer the questions that don't.

And as far as Death goes, neither Faith nor Science can answer that question accurately or honestly--which is why there's faith to begin with. But Science can offer equal hope with this very basic idea:
A fundamental tenet of Physical Science is that matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. They just change states from one to the other.
That being the case, NOTHING in the Universe ever truly disappears, it just changes form.
Personally, I find that at least as comforting as any religious credo. My thoughts and respects go out to Mr. Swayze.

David murphy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:00 PM EST

It's really sickening to read all the self-serving, sanctimonious preaching going on in here. I do NOT think Jesus would approve.

Get well Patrick! Sending good thoughts your way.

to brian and nicky Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:00 PM EST

The bible is a book!!!!!! God may forgive your sins but I say don't sin in the first place. Being judgemental of others is a sin. Knock it off you knuckleheads.

CryogenicsIsTheAnswr Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:56 AM EST

Wow a lot of you are talking about how he has to know the Lord to get ever lasting life. I didn't know G-O-D knew about cryogenics. I figured Patrick should talk to Walt Disney about living forever.
Also, Swayze was in "Ghost." He's got a plan.
I am a little bummed out about how such a nice interview with such brave sentiments can be sullied fiends of the opiate of the masses calling him foolish.

to brian and nicky Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:56 AM EST

You both will be joining Patrick some day. But I have news for you. It will be in a box in the ground with your flesh rotting.

Nicky Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:51 AM EST

Alex if you say your a Christian how can you say that you do not know what lies ahead? Either you believe the Bible as the Total and Absolute Truth or you don't believe it at all.

Alex Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:44 AM EST

A number of you want Patrick Swayze to tkae God, believe, etc, etc, etc. Some of you quote scripture and say he and all who do not take God will not pass unto the Kingdom of Heaven but go onto an Ethnal Hell. You all say these things as fact, but they are not fact. They are beliefs, your Christian beliefs which is great. But do not push them upon people, any person, as if they are fact and this and that will happen to them if they do not believe like you. I am a Christian, but despite wha the Bible says, I have, like all of us, no idea what lies ahead once we die. We have our beliefs as to what lies ahead, but until you die you will never know.

jman Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:43 AM EST

My wife and I prayed for his and his wife's soul last night. May God be glorified and may Patrick and his wife spend eternity in heaven.

dirty dancing, ghost, too fong julie newmar, just to name a few...thanks for the entertainment...did not see the interview but i wish you the best

BrianBlows Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:43 AM EST

None of us deserve cancer and it takes serious guts to come to terms with a fatal disease. I think Patrick has done amazing things in his life that he can be proud of on his deathbed, he has brought joy and laughter to the world. Brian, on the other hand, has made a life out of demeaning people and pushing his faith on them because he thinks he knows all the answers. Vanity and callous condescension negate his credibility to speak of God or JC, he has no doubt, rued their day with his grandiose preaching. Jesus wants Brian to stfu now and leave the preaching to him.

katie_scarlett Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:42 AM EST

Heartbroken ... just heartbroken.

Kelly Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:42 AM EST

I feel sorry for Patrick but he was a smoker and he along with others are wise to how bad it is. That doctor came out and said that smoking definately causes pancreatic cancer. I wish him luck in his fight for survival but reality is...he won't make it, very sad as it is for anyone suffering with a disease.

Rick Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:41 AM EST

get a life...LIVE LIFE TO YOUR FULLIEST, BE GOOD AND RESPECT OTHERS, AND WHEN YOU SEE YOUR BROTHER IN PAIN SUPPORT HIM...THAT'S LIFE FOLK'S NOT RELIGION...RELIGION LEADS TO WAR AND CONFLICTS...GET A LIFE

Orion Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:41 AM EST

My father was diagnosed with AML-M7 (Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia) on December 23, 2005; he ran four miles on the treadmill that day and was in the great health. He died February 3, 2006. I think Patrick is counting on every day as a blessing. It took the sudden death of my father to realize to live every day to its fullest and chase your dreams to their reality.

And Brian, I suggest you get your head out of your posterior and read Luke 6:37. You know nothing of his beliefs except he has accepted his eventual demise to this disease nad is living every day to its fullest.

G Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:38 AM EST

The comments on here about "Jesus" and "saving" and "eternal life" are insulting and offensive--take your Holy Joe routines and go post on Pat Buchanan's site.

JAM Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:35 AM EST

Best wishes for Patrick in the time he has left. I admire his bravery and would like to thank him for the joy he has brought others through his work. Brian your wasting your life with all this Jesus crap. When your dead, your dead.

Nicky Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:34 AM EST

Joe- we are not sitting on the throne and Judging this man. We are trying to tell others that the Bible makes perfectly clear, that if you have not put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ or repented of your sins... You WILL NOT (as the Bible says) inherit the kingdom of God which is eternity in Heaven. All of the Christians on this page are just showing out concern for this man. We know what the Bible says about an eternal Hell and we do not want this man to endure this. So we are being passionate and compassionate and loving to him. God will receive all glory in whatever happens!

Robert Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:32 AM EST

Patric knows the odds on coming out of this.He has had a good run of life made something out of him self. Now he has to clean up the loose ends of his life make sure his wife is taken care of. He well not be forgotten and he well go out fighting.

Joe Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:30 AM EST

I don't think quoting scripture and entering into judgment with this man is appropriate. I don't recall him making a definite statement about his personal beliefs, and it is foolhardy to presume to know the faith of another person. The strongest Christians I've known have let their lives testify to their faith, not their memorized soundbites. Whatever Mr. Swayze's faith, I wish him grace and mercy. Anyone posting on what awaits him beyond the grave is presuming to sit on the throne of judgment in place of God. If you want to testify to the love of Christ, let it be in your actions and your charity for all men, regardless of their faith. I can understand wanting to stand up and speak for the truths you believe in. I don't recall this video or article addressing anything but the personal views and beliefs of one man grappling with a deadly illness. Just pray for him and his loved ones.

CEM Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:29 AM EST

I don't think Brian was trying to come across as a know it all, but he is right that someone needs to share with him about Jesus before it is too late. You can scoff if you want, but that He is the only way to have eternal life...

Believer Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:28 AM EST

You go Brian!

Fletch Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:28 AM EST

It was great seeing Patrick in the interview with his head held high, and the many glimpses we got of his life on his ranch. I'm looking forward to the premiere of The Beast next week. Patrick, keep up the good work.

Brian Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:27 AM EST

Science means nothing on one's deathbed. It does not save nor comfort.

All unbelievers can do is insult and mock. But in the end, they are meaningless and have no answers.

Tammy Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:25 AM EST

I have a good friend and co-worker that has just been diagnosed with Pan. Cancer. His mother had it and did not make it 2 months. This person is a very stong individual and is not going through the chemo or radiation. He is going all natural and holistic (that scares me ) but is is not my decision. I cried watching the interview with Patrick and his wife. They are a special pair and I wish them both well with what he and his wife are going through. During the interview Patrick did not mince words he told it like it is. I loved the honesty. Very well done.

julie Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:23 AM EST

god is the great scientist, dare you to say, you dont beleive when your time comes.

Brian Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:23 AM EST

What I want the most is for someone to read me the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans to me on my death bed, to continually remind me that I soon will be in the arms of my loving Savior. It is far better than the most of the meaningless comments made here.

Leo Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:23 AM EST

Brian, everything you beleive came from around 4000BC from the egyptian empire, and they got it from very crude drawings depicting life before languages. They didn't have a lot of basis for what they were coming up with, but that story has been running for 6000 years. It's all just a bunch of pictures that have been personalized. It's a joke, take some real history courses.

Maureen Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:22 AM EST

One of the most honest, bravest interviews I have ever seen.

Nicky Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:22 AM EST

After death comes Judgement from God. If we do not repent of our sins and turn to Jesus Christ and beg for His mercy and Grace... there is no hope. I am praying for Patrick and I pray that he would be healed of this sickeness. I pray that God will give us a cure for cancer. But I pray most that Patrick would get saved and that God would receive glory!!
