Rod Blagojevich, the man with a meatloaf for a hairdo, the accused/disgraced Illinois governor, is unavoidable–he’s all over TV today. He made a buff-up-your-image appearance on The View this morning. He’ll be on Larry King Live tonight. He was also on Good Morning America and The Today Show early this morning, showing an impressive, if egomaniacal, display of film history, comparing himself to Jimmy Stewart and Gary Cooper and citing such classics as Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, It’s A Wonderful Life, Meet John Doe, and Mr. Deeds Goes To Town. (Maybe the first time he watched it, he thought the title was Mr. Deeds Owns The Town, and tried to model himself accordingly.)
On The View, Elizabeth Hasselbeck wasn’t present (there was a death in her family–our condolences to her), and Barbara Walters was on via satellite from LA. She conducted a one-on-one interview, sedate and typically blah, before Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sherri Shepherd were allowed onstage to dig into the meatloaf in person.
Unfortunately, the gals couldn’t stick a fork in him. Blogojevich yammered on and on about not being able to defend himself sufficiently in his upcoming impeachment trial. Whoopi and Joy, usually champion interrupters of each other, failed to interrupt blabby Blago. I really expected better from Joy in particular–she squandered her time asking about the governor’s “potty mouth” (who cares?) and asking him to do his Nixon impersonation (really who-cares?).
Does this actually mean we’ll have to pin our hopes on Larry King doing a decent meatloaf-grilling tonight on Larry King Live? Sheesh. When you have to look to ol’ Mumbly Suspenders for your TV scoops, you know a pop-culture/political scandal is losing steam.
What do you think of letting a guy like this do a media tour to polish his public image? Are you a Blago-phile or a Blago-phobe?

I’m embarrassed that I’m from Illinois and ashamed to admit that I voted for this moron – twice. I cannot wait for all this crap to be over. I’ve just had this feeling that there was something shady going on, and his arrest in December solidified it for me. His lawyer quit because he wouldn’t listen to reason, he’s sounding like a whiny 5-year-old and I’m just sick of it. I have not and will not watch any of his media crap today for fear of breaking my television/computer. I’ll just wait to see what Stewart & Colbert have to say tonight.
That hair. That damn hair. I just can’t…nevermind. This guy really knows how to go down in a blaze of glory. His ticket was punched the moment the tapes were released. He’s just elected to go down swinging and takes as much with him as he can (not that I condone his actions). I’m not affected by this, so for me it’s just a theatre piece. Anyway, that DAMN hair!
this man is such an embarrasment, and he truly is delusional. he needs a psychiatrist, stat.
Ugh. I lived in IL, and voted for the moron. Here’s the thing – everyone is focusing on the Senate seat, and there is so much more that he did. There’s a lot more pay-to-play that the Senate is looking at besides Obama’s seat. If he spent as much time arguing his case in an actual courtroom vs. the court of public opinion, he might have a fighting chance. (Personally, I want him gone and barred from ever running for public office in IL again. And an orange jumpsuit.)
I’m proud to say that I voted for Judy Barr Topinka and I’m enjoying watching this moron go down. Looking foward to Larry King tonight. What an idiot.
Another Illinoisian…but I did not vote for the idiot-although in our defense our other choices were not any better. Anyway-he will be out of here soon. And he should not complain about not being able to defend himself-he has ignored deadlines from the Senate and is choosing not to attend the hearing. What a moron. I’m embarassed to live here at the moment.
maybe joy’s question on the view about blago’s nixon impression was her way of implying that he was a lying, conniving, sneaky politician in the mold of nixon(not to take away from the fact that many other politicians are just as sneaky). no wonder senator feingold has introduced a bill that would ammend the US Constitution, if passed banning “special replacement appointments.” we here in ny state are having another problem in this area. nepotism is alive and well.
COME ON FOLKS…JUST BECAUSE OUR GOV. IS A CROOK, WITH FRED FLINTSTONE HAIR ,IS NO REASON TO NOT BE PROUD OF OUR STATE…WE’RE GREAT PEOPLE…ESPECIALLY THOSE OF US WHO KNEW BETTER THAN TO VOTE FOR HIM!
A big “Amen” to BJ. I knew better than to vote for him, too.
This guy and his helmet hair need to be hauled off to jail, pronto.
The guy is an embarrassment for my home state of Illinois. He’s comparing himself to Ghandi and Mandella, for pete’s sake! Those of us in the Land of Lincoln just want this guy to disappear.
The show he should have been on: Dr. Phil!

I hope it bites em all in the ass! Hell with the gutless hypochrites who didnt get where they are today “BY THEMSELVES” so their bubbles wont float high forever! Id vote for you to be our governor!!!!!!!!!!!
This nutcase is saying that the entire Illinois House (with the exception of his sister-in-law), the entire Illinois Senate and the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court are guilty of “fixing” his impeachment? He really should be seeing a shrink.
