Well, to toot my own horn: I picked every one of the Golden Globes TV winners, if you give me the fact that I wrote that Alec Baldwin “should” win instead of putting him in the “will” win column–come on, you’ll give me that, right?
Meanwhile, how ’bout that 24 premiere? My colleague Dandy Dan Snierson gives you the TV Watch you need here, but I just want to add that I really like the action so far.
For a series that’s been hammered for its supposed sympathy to torture, 24 did a shrewd job of raising the subject last night, addressing it as Jack began to give his Senate hearing, and then demonstrating it knows what we want when, by the end of last night’s two hours, Jack Bauer was poised to plunge a pen into the eardrum of a bad guy to get the info he wanted. There’s a big difference between screen thrills and real-life behavior, and I’m weary of the let’s-blame-24 argument; it’s a new day for Jack and America, so let’s move on. Last night, 24 proved that it knows what it is: pulp adventure that works as both a pulse-racer and a Monday-morning discussion-starter.
What did you think of the Golden Globes wins, and about 24’s return? Which show did you watch, or did you flip back and forth?

24 all the way!! With the economy like it is, seeing celebrities in dresses worth more than I make in a year is not something I wanted to tune in to. Jack is back and 24 rocked!
Aside from a few highlights (Gervais, Fey’s “suck it”), it was a snoozefest from start to finish.
24 … after all these months, it had to be 24 and it was worth the wait.
Gee Ken, aren’t you special. How you made Alec a should instead of a will I will never understand. Now is your arm hurting from patting yourself on the back?
Not to nitpick, Ken, but you also had Gabriel Byrne in the “should” category too over Jon Hamm. But still, good work!
actually you had gabriel bryne in the wrong place as well… i suppose you’ll take credit for predicting obama to win as well?
Kate Winslet’s performance at the ceremony made me want to throw up. The fake tears, the emotional roller coaster; her worst performance in years! On and on and on until she finally thanked the tea lady. Just shut up!!!
Of course I watched 24. I saw the Golden Globes red carpet shows, and then the last hour. There was no way I was missing out on the return of Jack Bauer. BTW – Tony is looking HOT, but I hope he uses another facial expression at some point.
Ken why aren’t you doing the 24 recaps like you did before?
kate winslet deserves 2 awards after being snubbed so many times before. she is the best actress today.
Kate forgot Angelina’s name because after viewing Changeling she knew Angelina was no serious competition and promptly forgot about her. Lol…
I do not watch The Golden Globes so I could care less about that, but, OH YEAH watching 24 was a must and it was well worth the wait. Interesting interactions between jack and Tony. Of course I have my suspicions concerning this but I am going to let the season role on and see if my thoughts come into fruition.
Monday nights are just that more exciting again!
I watched 24. I love Jack and am glad he is back.
24 and the return of Jack and Tony! Yes yes yes! …now, had the Golden Globes been on on a different night, I would have watched. But no compettition for one of my absolute favorite shows!
Jack is the MAN! Jack Sell off!
Seriously Ken, not to diss your colleagues but…have you read Snierson’s recap? Lame. Steal your old job back please.
Tina Fey rocks! How awkward was Collin Ferrell’s comment about his old coke habit?
Ken, a belated congratulations on getting this blog. I’m stunned that it was up for almost 3 weeks before I discvered it. I had gotten in to the habit of checking Ausiello, Hollywood Insider and Popwatch from my browser history. Rest assured that Watching TV will be a daily visit for me from now on. + I have to go back and read all the posts I missed. I’m really glad EW has you doing this blog. Thanks for being an advocate for scripted TV and for not drinking the American Idol/reality Kool-Aid.
